Help: looking for... a true Classic Star Wars Trilogy Restoration?

The 'Spleen is secure, you won't find any companies leeching onto that. And even if there were, look up PeerBlock; if you're on Windows, it's your best friend.

DJ seems to have an irrational hatred of file uploading websites so he won't allow his releases to go up there. While I'd prefer them, it's his choice and anybody who did so against his wishes would just be an asshole.

LOL, irrational, I personally, meaning ME, do not use them but for small files, but if anyone else wants to upload them to filesharing sites be my guest, upload to ALL of them, I do not care, all I ask is what anyone else here that creates things asks, for a little common courtesy, would it hurt to post in the thread, drop an email, send me a PM, or join me in chat and say, hey I am going to share the V3(or whatever) on this fileshare site, is this cool? and then I would say hell yea it is cool, thanks for doing it, what is so hard about that? common courtesy, that is not asking much, just would love a heads up.

LOL, more like Moses, just look at his followers, impressive.

Dude, this isn't helping your reputation for being touchy.

If that is my reputation here so be it, people here that I work with know otherwise, so it does not bother me at all.

Funny though, I say he is like Moses, you talk shit, but that crazy *** calls him a GOD, and no one says shit, funny.

Whoa whoa whoa, stop the clock.

You're getting awfully defensive about this.

Calling it a fan edit is kind of silly. It's a matter of semantics, so on some level one could consider this technically a fan edit since it's not working from a single dedicated source, but the fact is when someone refers to a "fan edit" it carries a definite connotation. It sort of implies that someone has taken something and purposefully altered it so it doesn't resemble the original presentation but rather reflects their own specific vision. Harmy is doing the opposite here, trying to recreate the theatrical presentation as faithfully as he can manage. Semantics aside, a project with that singular purpose isn't the kind that springs to mind when talking about fan edits... for me at least.

Then again, the exact descriptor attached to the project doesn't really matter to me in my book. It's the project itself, and its goal - that's what matters.

And that is exactly what he is doing, he is altering the 2004 SE HD broadcast to reflect the his own specific vision of the untouched original trilogy, which in my opinion and obviously a few others, will never be 100%, and then you call me silly for thinking this is a fan edit, and then you go and prove my damn point, so Thank you very much for doing that sir, you the man!

Hey, I do not care who likes what, or who dislikes what, my whole issue was the stupid ass comparing of a 4:3 LB DVD project to a HD sourced project, that to me was a dumb as hell comparison, if you guys here think that it is fair, good for you, but I certainly do not, I am happy that people here like Harmys work, I actually like some of it, but to me it is still not OT, sorry, that is how I feel(and Harmy knows this, we have talked a lot in PM's) and yes I do feel it is a fan edit, again sorry, that is my opinion, and if people here feel that this is a preservation\restoration, good, that is your opinion, we can all differ on that right? so in short, it just boils down to the comparisons, to me these are just fucking ridiculous is all, DVD to HD, what a fucking joke LMAO!

sorry Harmy, I will try and stay out for good this time.

Very cool, you guys are so great it is not even funny, and my project is more of a "Custom" job, not a preservation for the video, but I DID preserve some of the audio options myself, but whatever.

SO what frink, I call it a fan edit, to me that is what it is, it is editing parts from other sources just exactly like a fan edit, here is something new, why don't you call it what you will, and I will call it what I will, sound good? WTF!

Can we put threads on an ignore list or only members?

This isn't a preservation project?  It's in the wrong forum if that's the case.

Depends on how you define preservation. Harmy's DEs don't preserve any particular release of the films literally, but they intend to do their best to preserve the content of the original versions in the highest quality they can. It's exactly what most people want in a preservation, even if it isn't really a preservation.

Of course, I guess you could also say that DJ's not preserving any particular release of the films as he's editing the GOUT... from a certain point of view.

Perhaps Harmy's work, as well as Hairy Hen's, are best described as "Recreations".

lol, how did I know you were going to have a comical response, how am I editing the GOUT? what other sources are going into it? pray tell please? again there is a huge difference of what is going on here, lol and this isn't even from a newbie, what a joke.

plus this section is preservations and "other fan projects" so it is covered.

Star Wars 1977 70mm sound mix recreation [stereo and 5.1 versions now available] (Released)

h_h, I'm glad you've decided to take this up. I've never had any problems with your first version of the mix, but I can't complain if you want to make it even better. Not picking up on some of the perceived errors makes me feel a bit noobish, but I'm fascinated nonetheless.

Is your final version going to be 2.1 that Satanika will upmix to 5.1?

And do you have any ETA for this? I'm in no rush; I'm just hoping it can make its way to Dark Jedi's and Harmy's latest versions.

Already ahead of you, PM's have already been shared and such.

How can it be, it is editing clips and such from different sources into the 2004 SE HD broadcast, which is the predominant source, so this is a fan edit to me, so I often wondered what you said myself a few times, this is not a preservation of the GOUT or an LD or VHS for that matter, it is a fan edit of the SE to try and resemble the OT.

Plus one project is a preservation\restoration, and 1 is a fan edit, and not to mention the huge differences in the sources used, most of the long time members will not even compare these 2 because of the huge differences(they already know the sources used very well) it is mostly the newbies, I will just add this thread to my "stay out of" list now because these comments just really get me going lol, and I have said this in a PM to h_h already today, it seems that most people nowadays want these HD fan edits over any preservation projects anymore anyways, so it is all good, that is why I am in no hurry to upload my BD Set at the moment, but I myself prefer the real deal lol, these are close, but no matter what is done to them, these are not OT, fact is fact.

OK, Harmy I will leave your thread now, I will try not to post in it anymore lol, unless provoked that is.

Just finished watching this Despecialized Edition, and all I can say is "Wow." You probably realize this, but for curiosities sake I did an AB with the V3 and the regular SE, and yours blows them both away! You can see things in your edit that are not visible in the other versions. The clarity and color is awesome! Why doesn't Lucas hire you?!

Thanks so much! This is the perfect Original Trilogy! :)

LMAO! now we are comparing my "preservation\restoration" of a 4:3 LB DVD to a "fan edit" of the 2004 SE HD broadcast stream? my God some of you here really need to get a grip on what a "fair" comparison really is, so if you think this is fair, please explain how it is? there is a huge difference in the sources and what we(Harmy and I) are trying to do, mine are original, his are not, and never will be, that is a fact, now I am not trying to take away from his efforts(Harmy) because what he does is pretty cool if you are into that, but when I read comments\comparisons like this, you are taking away from my efforts.

I actually thought Harmy would have commented on this ridiculous comparison himself but he must not have seen it yet or cares.

Let the retail Disc rip over night? it surely does not take that long to rip a BD LOL, 30-40 minutes tops.

It takes longer than that.

AH, sorry but you are mistaken, I have ripped plenty of BD50's to my hard drive and it takes about 30-40 minutes, if it takes longer than that, then you have a shitty PC and an even worse Blu-ray drive\Burner, or you have no idea what you are doing.

Most members of this forum wouldn't do it, because it is just a waste of time if nobody will be able to get it.

A restoration only makes sense if people actually care about the object and if it will be available to them and the future generations. The entire point of a preservation is to actually see or experience the object as it it was meant to be seen. Not just photos or descriptions, but the real thing. Thats why paintings, sculptures, buildings etc. are restored. If a movie is restored to its original form but nobody can watch it this defeats the entire purpose of the restoration.

Would you restore a painting to its former glory if it will just be hidden in a storage closet and never be shown in a museum?

Very well said, and I wholeheartedly agree with you, what a waste, but please keep telling us all here what you have, and what you have done, we will believe you, even though no one will ever see it LMAO!

Also, how is it bragging Troy if there is no proof?

Mike, I respect your desires - you've clearly stated in the past you have no intentions of distributing your completed project. But I remain confused as to why you won't distribute this.

Also, it can be very frustrating to see your announcements and progress, knowing that it won't ever be seen by those who would appreciate and treasure it. I hope you will reconsider your stance.

Agreed, I don't understand this either. Looks cool but if it's only for you it might as well be in Lucas' hands.

I couldn't agree more, why tell a Forum about it if it is not going to be available to its members? seems pretty damn silly to me, so I still say that this does not exist then.

The Blu-ray timing reminds me of the Star Trek II BD. Same cool, desaturated look, with the reds and oranges and yellows muted.

I just think the theatrical looks better...

You know looking at them more, maybe I should make the Blu-ray match the Theatrical, that is what I am trying to do here right lol, but I need suggestions on how, damn I wish I was better at color correcting.

Not sure if anyone really gives a shit about this project lol, but I did capture the lossless LPCM from my Theatrical LD last night, I am currently working on a rough cut of the ending to see if it can actually be done in 1080P, but the rough cut will be 720P for testing, there is no color correcting done yet, like I said, this is just to see if it can work, because the ending is really, really different between theatrical and extended, lots of different cuts, angles, length of shots, etc.

If this does work out I hope at least some of you will watch it and give me suggestions, the color is really different, but since I am trying to use the Blu-ray video as much as possible, I will have to match the Theatrical source to this, unless it is recommended to go the other way, I actually like how both look myself.
