The Thing (1982) - sound mixes (Released)
Time

The Thing rules? no why would this be needed when we have GREAT video in the HD DVD? and leave the VC-1 untouched? your opinion only, we had our reasons for doing what we did and you will not be able to tell a difference, but honestly an LD BD of this, you are kidding right? the HD DVD video will just blow it right out of the water.

There was a reason we went this route You_Too and I and also the AVC codec is way better, either way everyone has there own ideas and opinions on what is right and what is not and what is needed, so everyone can enjoy doing these any way they feel the need to, all is good.

Very cool dark_jedi ,  so is the source for the uncut a hdtv capture?

Probably but I also have the rare OOP recalled DVD of this as well and You_Too did a fantastic job of upscaling it, but we will see, either way this BD will be uncut when we are done with it.

Didn't you get the MGM-HD UK rip I sent you?  That is completely uncut and in true 720p HD.  I don't know how much better you can get than that when it comes to the unedited version of SWAMP THING.

Yes I got it, and it is 1080 not 720p, but zeropc helped me get another version as well, so we have 2 HDTV versions as well as what You_Too worked up from the DVD, either way I am very confident this project will be relatively easy to do, unless we have to color correct the actual BD video, You_Too actually saw something in the screens he did not like to much but we will wait and see if it is true on the actual release.

Conan The Barbarian 1982 US Theatrical Edition & BONUS! *RELEASED*
Time

As I mentioned earlier in this thread, I would love to help more members out in getting this great package deal but after this I just cannot afford to do it, I spent way more then I thought I would, the actual blank donations really didn't cover all lol, the slips are pretty expensive and to have all the covers printed and cut already is not real cheap either, and not to mention the colored cases, these can only be bought from outside the US, so I imported them, I would have to have some serious donating to be able to get all these done as well as BD50's, not to mention my poor Pioneer BD burner lol, I am wondering when I will need to get another lol, but believe me if I could get more of these out for you guys I would.

Great project and great cover by Dc6366.

Maybe you could do a faux Twilight Time cover so it sits well with the first Fright Night? (Please say you will, otherwise I'll have to do it and I really could use a break from making covers) :-)

He already did one up but I did not want to use it because we are not Twilight Time lol, but here it is, I also think he has the TT template for download as well.

The Thing (1982) - sound mixes (Released)

dj, the bd audio doesn't match the hd-dvd video. you need to edit it in order make it sync. i have the dts-hd audio already synced here.

I used the UK BD because of all those kick ass extras and the 2 video's lined up perfectly, I was totally shocked I did not have to synch anything, so maybe you have to with the US BD but the UK was perfect for me.

I'm looking to sync a theatrical stereo sound mix for The Thing to the BD (or, more likely, HD-DVD) video and was hoping someone could help me make the right choice.

First of all, here's a rough timeline:

1982: The Thing released in 35mm Dolby Stereo and 70mm 6-track

1985-1987: Initial home video versions released. The song 'Superstition' is redubbed by Universal with 'One Chain Don't Make No Prison' (none too carefully - see link below)

1990: Universal letterboxed laserdisc with digital PCM - retains the altered soundtrack from previous releases

1998: Signature edition laserdisc and collector's edition DVD released. Both include a 5.1 remix (reinstating 'Superstition'), while the laserdisc also contains a stereo PCM track

2006 on: HD-DVD and Blu-ray released with HD variants of the 5.1 mix

There's more information on the home video changes in comments from producer Stuart Cohen found here: http://thethingfan.fr.yuku.com/reply/41808#.UeRAFG3UccO (post 56 in particular)

So here's the question: I've captured both the 1990 letterbox and 1998 signature editions (thanks again Bigrob!) Which is truer to the original? The concern is that the 1998 stereo is just another incarnation of the remix for 5.1, but with its original content it would be the preferable choice.

Opinions please. Winning mix gets synced!

I say both, I actually just took the UK BD and stripped the video and replaced it with my HD-DVD video and kept the entire BD intact.

Today I got something in my Mail. :)

It is a BD. :) (I asked for it without artwork and case, to keep shipping costs and costs as down as possible. :) )

I just threw it in my PS3 after admiring the beautiful menu with nice music, I started it with the 2 channel mono sound.

Wow! I can't remind watching Conan, looking so beautiful (the Movie, not the guy. :) ) the warmer colors just give it the feel what I missed watching the regular retail BD.

The audio is astounding.

Now I check the 2.1 DTS-HD MA Track, and I am sure that my neighbors are now aware of me home, thanks to my Subwoofer... The sound just send me shivers down my spine. I may only have 2 speakers and a subwoofer here, but it is just damn great sound.

Thanks to Team Blu, this is an awful great work.

The Bonus Features are also very great. I love the Symphony.

FINALLY you got it! I was starting to worry there my friend, we sure are glad you like it, you were the last one I was waiting on, now once I have an nfo template that I can use we can start getting this ready for all.

Thanks again for the kind remarks MrB! as well as everyone else that has posted a review, this really is great to read, so thank you all.

My (not so) quick ANSI logo attempt (simple image edit+convert):

Text version here, if it doesn't look similar to the above you need an nfo-viewer.

Now that I can make out much better, very nice, so if someone, anyone can get a template for me soon I can fill it out and get Conan up and out for you guys.

So does anyone have any idea on a short Team Blu video clip we can add to first play on our BD's?

Doctor M's Stereo to 5.1+ Dolby Prologic II Upmix Guide
Time

Well I know I would just love an updated version DrM so if you can this would be great and with screens, I will figure out how to take your info and create an offline pdf file for sharing, but hopefully you will update all programs, or maybe I am not updated lol, I know some of the options you mention I did not see on my program, like this one,

"On the left click "Output". On the right uncheck everything except:
"Supported output sample formats", check (S/PDIF encode mode) & select your "Bitrate" as desired."

Thanks DrM and looking forward to what you do here, and as I said, maybe I need to update on my end lol, but to this day I still use this, hell I just now created a custom DD 5.1 track for my Fright Night 2 BD, so thank you.

Hey DrM just curious if you were planning any more updates to this whether it be with better methods, updated software, and you mentioned adding screens?

Thanks

edit - actually thinking on it I think it would be great to have both your guides updated complete with screens and have a downloadable pdf version to use when offline, but that is just me lol, anything you could do would be great.

I'm confident that I could put together a viable ASCII-rich .nfo draft or two here in the next couple/few days…I'll post my progress as it comes.

Maybe some more talented video/graphics designer will take up the mantle on the short video clip?  I have a couple ideas that might look pretty spiffy, but we'll see where we're at as project .nfo approaches readiness.

All the best! ;)

Thanks, looking forward to what you come up with.

I'm no expert here, but if no one else beats me to it…I may have a go at either/or of these branding projects.  A quick Google search revealed SEVERAL text and image to ascii art generators, here's a nice large sampling that I liked:

-> http://patorjk.com/software/taag/#p=testall&f=Graffiti&t=Team%20Blu

…and maybe the top part could read something like:

Another *QUALITY* release by:

Team Blu (in ascii art)

…then followed by specs and details of the specific release, and such.

Any preferences?

We aren't picky, just something real nice and unique and when opened you will know right away it is a release by us lol, and specs and such obviously I will put in when projects are finished but a template would just make things so much easier and uniform for us so all I have to do is drop in specs, and have a comment section and wallah, ready for release lol.

Thanks for helping us out, any help on these 2 things would be great!

How about some simple ASCII Art? http://pastebin.com/P2hSsk5x

You mean for the NFO? if so that is perfectly fine with us, we just need some kind of template because I know for me I am not real good at wording these things but surely would like to include one for informational purposes, but yes that would be fine, hell I think that is all NFO's can use anyways right? I am not real sure.

Thanks

Oh, I see.

I misunderstood. I should have read the OP more closely.

I'll start researching what kind of information is best to include.

No worries, it's all good, I just hope we can get some help on this, but I have actually asked before on an NFO template and no one was able to help out, so now I am asking 1 more time for someone to help us help you.

Thanks again
