GOUT image stabilization - Released

Very nice looking video sample DJ. IMHO the offical GOUT audio is shit. So for my money it's between the other two. Realize this is coming from 40 yr old ears, and not being an audiophile with all the lingo and tech knowledge....I like the straight LD Belbucus PCM ripped audio the best. Santanika's 5.1 is good but it seems to lose something going from the 2.0 to 5.1. The 2.0 PCM is crisp clear and rich sounding....just like I remember the Laserdiscs. Anyway for what its worth there ya go.

well I will wait a little while longer to let other's chime in,but I am leaning towards swapping the original GOUT audio for the Belbucus PCM as well, and I will do that to all 3,and the 5.1 won't fit on the DVD,I wish it would, but it won't.

but for the record,I really like the 5.1 mix,it has some good rumble.

Any Suggestions for Better Uprez to HD?
Time

Does anyone know how to get this to work on a lossless avi file?
or does it have to be a .d2v file?

If you did not know I used gforce's script and made lossless avi's of the SW Trilogy, and now just for the hell of it I want to try and upconver the file and see how it looks, but I cannot get solo21's script to work.
I keep getting the error that MVAnalyse need yuy2 or yv12,well I put the convert command all over the place in the script and it just keeps telling me the same thing.

any idea's?

Thanks

One thing you will have to watch out for is the combined video and audio bitrate - I tried for months to combine an anamorphic GOUT I made (not cleaned up at all, just anamorphic) with the uncompressed mono WAV, and I kept getting errors until I finally realized that the maximum bitrate was too high.  I don't think you'll run into this problem with 448 AC3, but it may still happen, depending on how high your video bitrate is.

the video bitrate is 6500 average.

GOUT image stabilization - Released
Time

I have already been messin with this some and it is looking more and more like I will not be able to add any alternate tracks, not with trying to keep it "Retail" which is kind of what I am shooting for, there is just no room left, they range from 7.21 GB's to 7.73 GB's.

but I made a test DVD of the video with satanika's DD 5.1 track to watch later on.

still tossing around the idea of swapping the "Retail" audio for an upgraded one though,I don't see any problems with that,so is the Belbecous PCM's that much better than what is on the GOUT DVD's already? and I mean a signifiacnt difference, not just a tiny minor one.

Sure, the standard method

Telecide()
Decimate(5)

can fail (if that's what you meant). But there are lots of settings... On a particular troublesome video I had to use this for example:

Telecide(guide=1, back=1, gthresh=50, vthresh=30)
Decimate(mode=2)

Haven't specifically tried to IVTC sw though.

Please by all means keep the idea's coming,I will probably try everything.

OK I need to know what is everyone's thoughts on the audio?

I will say this,if I upgrade the audio for ANH,then there has to be upgrades for the other 2 as well.

I would like to add the 5.1 audio I just got from satanika if it does not go over in size,as a bonus audio option.

and this Belbecous audio file everyone keeps talking about,is there versions for ALL 3 movies?

So please give me your thoughts on this issue.

I was just originally going to do the video and leave EVERYTHING else on the retail DVD untouched.

DJ,

just to let you know, I'm very excited about this project. I would love to help, but I have to admit that it can only be in a limited capacity, as I have a newborn now, and I just can't devote the kind of time I used to. I think the first step would to be to get the best capture you can, and do the best IVTC job you can, then you'll have something I can help with.

Thanks G,Once I am there I will for sure let you know, won't take to long though.

Those screenshots are not of the same frame, so comparison is a bit difficult, but, I don't see anything that looks like the work of a deband filter.  Have you checked the cantina scene?  The screenshot you had before of Han's hand has banding.

I tried to get them as close as I could,oh well.

and here are some screens of Han's hand with the GradFun2DBmod filter:

adding LFE to GOUT (Released)

The best way to do make an LFE track would probably be to strip the LFE track from the official 5.1 mix and sync it to the mix you'd like to use.

And that is actually what hairy_hen has done I believe. It is a proper lfe track.
For the comparisons I simply included also a derived lfe to put to to the test.

..

Ok, the methods were 1=active matrix, 2=farina, 3=V.I and the b's were with h_h's lfe... So pretty much what I expected :)

I can make these pretty quickly, 448kbps ac3 ok or is there need for a dts in 768 and/or 1536 kbps?

personally I would like 448 ac3 and both the 768 & 1536 DTS,I can always find uses for them,so will you have versions for all 3 films?

also did you see your PM?

Thanks
