Star Wars OT & 1997 Special Edition - Various Projects Info (Released)
Time

So what is the method Belbucus used to get around the "time compression" or whatever it is called on sync'ing the LD's to the GOUT? on side 1 of ESB to me it all looks good, but then WHAM! side 2 is all f***ed up, the LD side has 40561 frames and the GOUT 40586, but the audio drifts waaay out by the end of side 2.

what I am doing since the LD is in sides(5 to be exact) I am making the GOUT into sides as well, and then sync'ing each side, then once done put all back together.

So I NEED help with this or the stereo mixes will still be absent on all releases, also by the way, side 2 is the longest of all sides, I am assuming that the other sides will(I hope anyways) be OK.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Tips? Guides?

I think its awesome that we've now reached the point where we have most of the original sound mixes (good job on the LD captures). Star Wars DVDs are getting interesting again!

WOW, I did not think you were interested in this project from reading the thread on ED3, or maybe just interested in the different audio mixes only.

Added the 35mm Stereo audio to ANH and capturing the LD's as well for ESB and ROTJ Theatrical mixes.

hairy_hen I did not forget about you I will have the 97 SE audio you need from the LD sometime today as well.

So if all goes well, this is what it will be,

ANH
'77 Stereo, 35mm Stereo, hairy_hens 70mm 5.1, '77 mono.

ESB
hairy_hens music-edited 5.1, '93 Stereo, '80 Stereo(if I can get it sync'd that is).

ROTJ
hairy_hens music-edited 5.1, '93 Stereo, '83 Stereo(again if I can get it to sync up).

OH and msycamores great subs!

I've begun to work on the subs for Jedi now and I'm happy to tell you that they will be much closer to the real ones than I was able to do on SW, (that is if you want me to do them differently, dark_jedi?) cause the subs will be a little taller and appear more wide in the frame than the SW subs you have, I'm also wondering how important you think the positioning is? Because if I place them exactly as they appear on the four caps on the first page they will not be centered in the frame (don't know yet if this is a case of image cropping but I strongly believe it is, all four subs have the same positioning). The Gout Jedi has actually a little more picture-information on both sides when compared to those, haven't checked other sources yet. It could be more pleasing to the eye to have them horizontally centered, just a thought, tell me how you want it...

These are the lines I'm not sure about:

This bounty hunter is my kind of scum... / ...fearless and inventive. Split up in two or not? if split up, should the second line have an ellipsis?

You may have been a good smuggler... / ...but now you’re Bantha fodder. Should the second line have an ellipsis?

Unfortunately I only have four lines as reference of what I strongly believe are the original subtitles. This is probably a long shot but I thought if I could compare the theatrical Greedo subs as they appear in Star Wars SE with the original Greedo subs and see if the line; Jabba's put a price on your head so large every bounty hunter in the galaxy will be looking for you... appear in one frame instead of it being split in two as it is done usually in the many video versions, and if that line match maybe the only thing they changed for the SE subs was the actual font and not the line-breaks. But then you'll need footage from the theatrical SE ;) dark_jedi said he should look if he could find something for me that could help, otherwise any info or knowledge about it is very welcomed.

Well 1 thing is for sure, they will have to be centered in the frame, at least to me they would look terrible on 1 side or the other.

So are you saying you can make the SW subs look better or no? because if so I have not done the rendering yet with the new subs, that is planned for Monday or Sunday night.

So how does this sound for the audio extra's, if I can get them to fit.

ANH
'77 Stereo, 35mm Stereo, hairy_hens 70mm 5.1, '77 mono.(I have all 3 and this disc could actually be done real soon, it has also been done using msycamore's sub script)

ESB
hairy_hens music-edited 5.1, '93 Stereo, '80 Stereo(if I can get it sync'd that is).

ROTJ
hairy_hens music-edited 5.1, '93 Stereo, '83 Stereo(again if I can get it to sync up).

thoughts?

Well the DVD rips from the captures are useless, I get ESB all sync'd up at the start and as soon as Luke is recovering in the med bed talking to scruffy looking nerve hurter it slowly drifts, and by the end it is waaaay out, so I assume I will have to rip from the LD.

But first I need to know if the above mentioned LD's are the ones for sure we need.

OK I have a 2 sided ESB with number 1425-80 manufactured and printed in the USA.

also have 5 sided ESB with number 1425-84 manufactured and printed in the USA.

for Jedi I have,
3 sided(weird this has less sides than ESB) with number 1478-80 manufactured and printed in the USA.

it does not say what city they were pressed in, or I just can't see it LOL.

so are any of these correct?

also if this is anything I found Star Wars # 1130-84

I agree-especially about theatrical stereo mixes for Empire and Jedi. I don't think I've ever heard them. It's nice to finally be able to get away from the 93 mixes.

So which Laserdisc set has these stereo mixes, I am sure I have them( I have all NTSC LD's) but not sure which LD's they are, if you know which ones they are and can post an image of the covers and info I can look into getting them.

Soft Encode has a so called "dying bug" that can occur if you canceled a conversion.  Afterward it'll just keep crashing.
The fix is to delete two registry keys:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sonic Foundry\Soft Encode

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sonic Foundry\Soft Encode
Remove these and it should start to work again.

HOT DAMN! That worked, although I only had to delete the bottom key, the top was not in there, the local machine one.

Thanks Dr. M

ps. Did you get my email?
