Take your time (I only say that because I am on vacation and wouldn’t be able to get this if you released it right now anyway)

You wouldn’t say that if your dad’s birthday was this weekend!

Yeah, thankfully his birthday is in a month, so I don’t need to apply the pressure to njvc just yet :-p

Some of those guys may have taken their techniques to the grave.

As a make-up effects enthusiast, I can confirm that some did. There were some cases of understudies, but a lot of the early masters took their secrets to the grave.

Your line of thinking is probably the most accurate, but wouldn’t the change in film resolution, as well as any number of tiny variables like lighting and lenses also affect the ability to pass off make-up as reality? I am sure our HD generation is part of the issue when it comes to believable makeup.

People with screen readers need the title.

I guess that’s true but it’s also true that I’m too lazy for that.

And what are the archivists going to do 200 years from now when they get around to this site?

can i have invite to myspleen please?

Well, you asked, so no.

its more so that you asked twice, quoted a random post to do so, and your only two posts are both the same question. this is not a forum for asking for invites, otherwise that type of behavior might not be responded to so rudely.

I didn’t like how the text on the back of the booklet looked with the existing images, so I’ve been playing around with alternatives. This still needs some work, but I thought I would post it to get people’s feedback. I have the red lightsaber to use for ESB and green for RotJ, as well.

I agree that the text is hard to read with just overlaying it, so thanks for tackling this. My feedback is that i am not a big fan of the 3 lightsaber colors for case art, but i am not against them either. i won’t miss the SW artwork you removed, but i do sort of like the ROTJ artwork that you would be replacing. maybe you could find some landscape artworks and use them as the background (but darkened slightly to help with the text)? I am thinking mostly of ROTJ, And the fact that the current image minus the people would still work nicely with text i think…

just some thoughts since you asked for feedback. but if you or anyone else has a better idea please feel free to ignore mine.

Thanks for working on this set guys. Dhamage, yes I’m happy to remove the 3rd disk info as an alternative.

not sure if that is just keyboard issues, but its ‘dahmage’ (not that i am vain or anything) 😃

Perhaps stardork’s updates will include this, in which case don’t feel you need to make any changes for me.

You have a PM, however you should know that not owning the source material is frowned upon.

Why would you send a PM helping out someone who is breaking the forum rules?

I wasn’t aware I was breaking any rules. I just thought you had to have at least one retail copy of your sources. I didn’t know you needed retail copies of ALL of your sources.

All has been explained. Frink sorry for my poor use of ‘however’.

Ok, while I wait for the uploads to complete, I’ve gone back to tinkering with the artwork. As previously mentioned, I will be including a bonus fanedit for each film in my set:

SW

  1. Film + Features
  2. Documentaries
  3. Adywan’s SW Revisited

ESB

  1. Film + Features
  2. Documentaries
  3. Pulp Empire

ROTJ

  1. Film + Features
  2. Documentaries
  3. War of the Stars parts I & II

Like Dhamage and Stardork, I’m using phildesfr’s set as the basis. Here is an attempt at the outer cover of the booklets, detailing the 3 discs for each film.

I like the use of the booklet page to include this detail, it does obscure the artwork, but that back page artwork isn’t my favorite so i don’t mind, just pointing that out.

Would you be willing to generate versions of these that are just for the first two disks?

I found this on spleen, but I want to make sure it’s this with NO quality loss. Can you give me the size of the file, please? Thanks!

if you found it there, it should be pretty clear if it is the official release or not.

Ahh… the warmth and love from this forum… /sigh

ANSWER: Size: 20.81 GB (22,343,340,317 bytes)

sure, but if you found the torrent, i fail to understand how you wouldn’t know what it was. a hash check is better than comparing file sizes. sorry to be so blunt in my first response, reading it now i see the harshness.

Just a quick update, the ROTJ Special Features 25GB disc is almost uploaded, so PM me if interested.

Also, I have been pointed in the direction of an HD remaster of the Return of the Jedi Re-release trailer, used for the Main Menu, so I’m going to create one final version of ROTJ BD50 and BD25, with the HD version of the trailer for the Main Menu.

It’s obviously not a big change, so you may want to stick with your current version if already downloaded etc, but I will upload the HD main menu version for those who want it as an alternative. This will take some time though, as all of the Documentary discs are still in the queue to be uploaded also. Will update as they become available.

I am just glad I didn’t burn my copy yet.

Has anyone used binary diff and patch tools before? Might make this easier for those who already downloaded the 50gb ISO http://www.daemonology.net/bsdiff/
(I am curious if an updated torrent will also hash most of the preexisting file, probably not if the file is larger and all the data offsets change)

JEDIT:
ok, just figured out that bsdiff while very efficient in the delta file size, does all its calculations in memory, so i think it would require over 900 GB of ram to do this task! Perhaps this tool would be better: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xdelta. njvc, any interest in attempting this? I am thinking it would let you get the update out via Mega that much faster if you don’t have to upload a 50 GB file again. obviously you would want to compute a sha256sum or similar has of the updated ISO before doing this (and have a backup of it), so that we can all verify this works.

I hope i am not spamming your thread njvc. let me know if i should move this elsewhere.

Here is what i have done with phildesfr’s covers so far:

(Note, i did these for the 50 GB versions, and haven’t included anything about the Documentary disks)

Star Wars:

Empire Strikes Back:

RETURN OF THE JEDI:

Download includes disc covers and other sides of the insert/leaflet at 300 dpi: https://mega.nz/#F!Y0g13C6A!sHwfcwb09H7VSV0prLUgJg

JEDIT: added ROTJ, and minor updates to all inserts

njvc, i noticed a descrepancy between your writeup and the disc. audio track 26, on the disc is called theforce.net commentary, on your writeup it is forcecast.net (possible copy from ESB writeup?) Also you list 33 subtitles in your writeup, but the Persian subtitle is not included on disk (32 subtitle limit)

My set has the interior art for the reverse of the front cover as well (same as the original set from phildesfr), but there are a couple differences between dahmage’s and my set, so it probably couldn’t hurt to do the 3rd one for anyone who has already printed out your first 2.

Dahmage, I don’t have the disk label for RotJ handy, so if you could make a transparent PNG for it to match the first 2, I’d appreciate it.

Yeah i was going to point that out, the interior art is untouched from phildesfr so you could always grab it from his set.

but yeah, i think i might as well complete the set.

FYI, i have been adding a small version number for the DE disk labels to signify which despecialized version it is. (ie, Jedi will say DE 2.5 just above the hub). i may create a clean set too just in case someone doesn’t want that.

Yeah, I noticed the version numbers, definitely could come in handy when I’ve got multiple versions of these lying around. I’d love a RotJ one with the version number to match, plus a clean set of all 3 for future use, if it wouldn’t be too much of a bother.
