I started watching Return of the Jedi at about 6am, and its issues outweighed the good for the first time. Honestly, it gets worse each time I watch it.

I had this experience the last time I marathoned the trilogy. In isolation, I can appreciate the charm of Jedi, but as the capstone of the trilogy it really drags.

Exactly!

i was thrilled with it when i watched it as a kid in isolation (during the 97se theatrical releases) when you had to watch one at a time. and we didn’t really do ‘sit down all day and watch movies’ in my house so marathons weren’t a thing. I found Jedi to be mostly pointless when i watch all three back to back now. it wraps up some things, but it feels so pointless at the same time. (although your description is pretty spot on: it drags)

There was an exchange between them in the sandstorm scene that was cut?

That sounds interesting. I’m curious what their conversation was.

Not sure if the exchange was actually shot, as Lando is busy helping Chewie limp into the Falcon in the footage that’s been seen on the Blu Ray set.

very interesting! this is why i like this site, i keep learning new tidbits about star wars.

Think of LBJ as many people can compare him to Kobe and Jordan but the widespread conversation of “is he” and a consensus that he’s one of the greatest hasn’t arisen yet.

That took me longer than it should have. LBJ means somebody else to old people.

lol

I’m not really into basketball so I thought he meant Lyndon B Johnson at first.

I see I wasn’t the only one 😃

I was thinking about immigration and the complaint that some people have voiced that allowing those who have come here illegally, but have families, to somehow gain citizenship, ‘encourages’ people to cross the border illegally.

Contrast that with stand your ground laws. See http://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2017/03/10/519664502/judge-rejects-stand-your-ground-defense-in-florida-theater-shooting-case

There probably is a valid argument that both encourage behavior, however I think it is clear that one of them has a worse outcome than the other.

Wow, he can still surprise. Does he have any conception how high 42% is? You have to wonder if he has a grasp on basic maths.

Well, we all know he has a grasp on at least one thing. (Where’s the “ashamed of my own joke” emoticon when I need it)

Some parents are reluctant to drop their children off at school for fear of getting stopped, said Daniels, who is an immigration attorney. Instead, the children are missing classes.

“It’s really bad,” Daniels said. “They don’t just stop the person they’re looking for. They hassle everyone who’s around.”

My biggest issue with how illegal immigration is treated in this country is how we treat those who have already been here for more than a year. Once someone is settled in a place, it really is inhumane to deport them. you are ruining many lives, and that has a ripple effect in making this world a worse place. worse because: more poverty, more crime, less education, on and on.

I don’t know, but somehow it doesn’t make sense to me to write the our immigration laws saying “If you illegally sneak into our country and remain here illegally and manage to evade deportation long enough, Congratulations! You win! You can stay!” Sorry, but that is not how this works unfortunately. Besides doesn’t doing that encourage others to attempt to try to come into the country illegally? Also exactly how do we determine who is and is not “settled”? I don’t know what should be done with such people, but I am pretty sure the solution isn’t to just ignore the law and ignore the fact that they illegally came into to the country and are still here illegally and ignore that they have neither citizenship or visa.

It also doesn’t work very well to punish a settled illegal immigrant, because more than just the illegal immigrant gets punished. that is why this is a tough issue. I think the policy that made the most sense is providing a path to citizenship. it doesn’t have to be easy, but it should be possible.

CatBus had some good points too.

I finally caught up on this last night, man that made my heart warm to see the rebel fleet show up! hard to believe they can fit in another whole season… 😃

Still plenty to do before Scarif. I’m just interested to see how the Jedi are dispatched. It’s going to be hard to explain how Luke is special if there’s a grown-up Padawan & his Padawan who just left.

“You’re strong with the Force? That sucks, you just missed a couple of Jedi, one around your age*. They could probably teach you a thing or two.”

*two or three days older

Yes, that will certainly be interesting to see how they handle it. having cool Jedi around that the Rebels are aware of (and even Princess Leia to some extent - she did meet them in Season 2 right?) certainly make some behavior in the OT seem like they suffered from mass amnesia.
