That said, a recompositing of the original film elements for an OUT wouldn’t offend me, but I also don’t tend to think it is necessary.

People on this site are the only ones I’ve ever seen that claim to be offended by recompositing the original effects. I don’t think they’re bothered by the TNG blurays though.

The question is, if all the SEs had done was recomp the effects, and had this become the only available version of the films, would this website exist? I bet not. I think the nature of the situation and the fact that we’ve been forced to create these projects has created radicals.

yeah, i am inclined to agree.

All this Yoda calling lighting justification talk sounds to me like mental gymnastics 101. Yoda somehow via the force either creating, influencing, directing, etc. the lightning in TLJ just doesn’t sit right with me whatever the reasoning. Pre-ST force ghosts could not affect the physical world. Suddenly in the ST they can directly influence the force back in the real world.

Sorry but I don’t buy it anymore than I bought the ugly Yoda puppet. I also didn’t buy “crazy yoda” as he wasn’t crazy or unhinged in the OT, just a little eccentric and put on a crazy act to either test Luke in TESB or make himself seem harmless while checking out who this stranger was that just crash landed in his backyard.

Val

Yoda was joking around even when he was dying in ROTJ. He always had a jovial side. Something the PT completely got rid of with grumpy frowning Yoda. TLJ Yoda was the same Yoda we see in the OT.

And OT Force ghosts could interact physically with the real world, so why can’t they also use the force? Or is it just because it’s been introduced in the ST that’s the problem?

I don’t recall any physical interaction in the OT (apart from Obi Wan’s ludicrous ‘sitting on log’ scene which doesn’t really count IMO). The issue is the fact that ghost-Obi Wan made it plain he could not assist Luke in fighting Vader. This means either a) force-ghosts can’t interact or b) force-ghosts are jerks.

Maybe, as a Jedi, Ben Kenobi feels it is appropriate to let Luke face his own battles rather than directly interfering. To do so would disrupt Luke’s journey toward becoming a Jedi because it could turn Luke into a noob by relying on Ben to solve Luke’s problems.

That is, Ben could interfere, but chooses not to because it is inappropriate in order for Luke to forge his own path correctly. When Ben says “I can not interfere”, he’s referring to a moral code rather than a physical limitation.

I think there’s a nice simplicity to the idea of force-ghosts as personal guides only. Giving them discretionary physicality muddies the waters somewhat (as evidenced by this thread).

because neither Obi-Wan nor Yoda use them.

That would naturally lead one to believe that they can’t do anything, don’t you think?

did you miss the past several pages where it was clear that not everyone naturally came to that conclusion?

Man, I was really hoping this thread would turn into a Sledge Hammer! thread since I don’t watch this show or series of shows or movies or whatever this is actually about.

You could always ask _ender for permission to create such a thread if you wanted.

Man, I was really hoping you’d be sitting next to me while you typed that so I could punch you.

The Last Jedi: Official Review and Opinions Thread ** SPOILERS **

I was helping friends move on Saturday, and i was pleasantly surprised when i jumped in my car to drive from the old pace to the new place, that Rian Johnson was the guest on wait wait, don’t tell me on NPR.

He seems like the kind of guy i would love to watch star wars with, or chat over some beer and/or pizza, etc. A nice guy is what everyone says.

4K restoration on Star Wars

I am just a dumbass who doesn’t work in any film industry related jobs, so i guess ignore me. But it sure seems like there are three points that are true.

  1. Lucas was a very early adopter of digital film-making and as a result, had to find a new way of doing things.
  2. Digital would have eventually happened even without Lucas, not to take anything away from him, but you can’t act like he CREATED it. He isn’t a god of film-making.
  3. The films are technically inferior because they used a technology that was not mature.

There’s a difference between presenting an innovation and using an unfinished technology in a multimillion dollar project.

Also, if you have to add “for a 16 years old [CGI] model” than it really doesn’t look that good. And TPM looks way better than AOTC.

Are we now excusing any poor decison of Lucas as being brave or innovative?

It seems to me that your distaste for the movies are keeping you beholden to the idea that innovation is only valid if it breeds perfection. But at the end of the day, that is not how innovation works, nor has it ever.

Perfection? Doesn’t have to be perfection, we would settle for Good.

Series 1 and 2 of Sherlock are excellent.

Series 3 and 4 feel like shitty fanfiction sequels.

this is true also

JEDIT, but i blame the problems of everything after Series 2 on increasing time between series, and the extreme complication that Moffat tried to put into every single plot. Its like he became obsessed with making every single plot more clever than the last, and the Series suffered because of it.

sorry if old news. also, yes this is just speculation, but believable i think.

Sorry mate - I saw the name ‘Mike Zeroh’ and stopped reading.

Hopefully the trailer will be out very soon 😃

I don’t know who Mike Zeroh is, but i did google him before i posted that link, and he seems like some kinda social media guy, so maybe i shouldn’t have posted it. I generally avoid twitter and youtube so I am in the dark to some of this. Is he generally worthless?

Honestly both series have a lot of pretty awful filler episodes. Rebels more so than The Clone Wars to me though.

Space whales…

jokes on us all when NASA reports that space whales are real.

Eh

#NotMyStarWars

the space whales was a dumb episode.

I know, right? Animals can’t survive in sp
ace.

i am not bothered by animals surviving in space.

I was bothered by a whale like creature ‘swimming’ through space. and then jumping to light-speed. But mostly the visual similarity to whales, and the assertion that they can somehow flap their tales and move through space, which doesn’t have much resistance to offer to a tail flap. It really just wasn’t a creature idea that i enjoyed.
