Most pointless Special Edition change?
Time

Slightly off topic but I just stumbled on this 1997 interview with Lucas after the first SEs came out. Funny how he says there’s more he’d like to make but there’s ‘no plans’ to change them again. Interesting how he also brings up that enhanced versions of the Indiana Jones films were gonna be done which fortunately we never got.

What Special Edition changes (if any) did people like?
Time

Thats nothing. I just converted my '92 SW tape to DVD. Obi-Wan’s lightsaber has literally no color in the cantina scene. If I squint I can somewhat detect a slight blue but other than that its just a white blade. One thing Im amazed was never fixed was the split second moments during the Ben/Vader duel when the sabers switch colors!

4K restoration on Star Wars
Time

There’s definitely examples where the coloring on the current masters is off (Frink pretty much listed the two that best come to my mind) but I have never been one to obsess over getting the colors just right. As long as they retain the original essence of the original colors, I don’t care if something’s are slightly off. A red light looks a slight orange? Not a big deal. A creatures blue skin is now green? That’s a big deal! However these are just random generic examples, not specifically pointing out anything. Just the same I’m glad the possibility of a proper OUT restoration might finally be upon us!

Do you think Disney will release the unaltered versions for DVD and blue ray?
Time

They might do each film separately. A theatrical showing of ANH for the 40th Anniversary and a BD/digital release to tie in with Episode VIII, Empire to tie in with the Han Solo spinoff, and Jedi to tie in with Episode IX. If its done this way I can picture the possibility of them including multiple versions of the movies.

What type of paper should I use to print out a cover for a Blu Ray case?

I usually have Staples print out my covers on Elite Gloss paper. Cost per print is like 50¢.

I don’t remember the last time I went to staples, but will I need to bring a USB that contains the covers I want to use, and print it out there, right?

You can actually go on their site and upload your covers and print and pay through their site and just go and pick it up. The site feature will allow you to choose the kind of paper to print on but make sure you adjust the image accordingly so it will print out in the right direction.

"Alert my Star Destroyer to prepare for my arrival." What was the point?
Time

One can also look at it like this.

1997- Lucas updates and explands the original trilogy to tie into his original vision more…mostly.

2004- Lucas makes more changes to tie in films better with the prequels.

2011- makes changes simply because he can!

And yes you’re right Vader leaving Bespin and arriving on the Star Destroyer definitely could have been executed in the original film so the motivation for the change is unclear.

The whole reworking of that final act of ESB to accommodate Vader arriving on his shuttle does really slow the pace down. Bad enough that the perfectly placed and spoken ‘Bring my shuttle’, which I think most agree really highlights Vader’s anger in that moment and more than enough to explain how he arrived to his Star Destoyer in short movie time, is gone but in the midst of our heroes making their escape is all this cluttered stuff showing Vader leaving Bespin and arriving in the docking bay. Really not necessary. Sad thing about the Special Edition changes is they can go three ways. Either you fully understand the change and feel it was justified, you’re slightly confused by it but sorta get what they were doing, or you can tell George did the change just to do it. I think this one falls somewhere between the last two with it reaching pretty close to the third.

Jaws: The Revenge | Theatrical Cut Reconstruction - HD (Released)
Time

I actually just checked this out a few hours ago. Yep the Netflix version has the original ending. Strange. On another note the print of the first Jaws on Netflix is not the BD print either. It looks to be an HD master of the print from the 2000 and 2005 DVDs. It also had the first surround mix done for Jaws in 2000 ie minus the restored sound FX from the original mono.

The wire balancing the buoy. Neither of these ommissions are a big deal but I am a purist so having it preserved untouched would be neat. I find it strange that these were removed to begin with since Spielberg said he would not be making any further alterations to his films, even mentioning he would not remove the wire guiding the plane in 1941. Like I said not a biggie but something to consider for a potential future project.
