I like that idea... much more plausible an explanation than carpet bombing an entire asteroid with low yield explosives.  By light waves, were you thinking of something like this?

What would that look like when it hits the ground?  (Assuming we'd see anything at all).

To go back to the topic of the TIE bombers and their explosions for a moment, I have to agree with those of you who said the detonations should be changed.  Looking at some stills from that scene, the "explosions" look more like some sort of blue plasma discharge than an actual explosion (top image).

Ady, any chance you might do something to that scene to make the explosions more authentic looking?  I was thinking something along the lines of this (bottom image):

Well, originally, this project was devised in order to produce the best OUT laserdisc transfers available.  At the time this whole thing began, the only copies of the OUT floating around the internet (to my knowledge, at least) were ones like TR47's, Dr. Gonzo's, Citizen's, Moth3r's, Cowclops's, etc.  As good as some of these were (Moth3r's PAL / Dr. M's NTSC versions being the best, IMO), all suffered from quality issues in one form or another (poor colour balance, soft image, low brightness, etc.).  Check out these screen cap comparisons over at Apt Irrelevance for examples.

In response, the X0 Project set out to create the highest quality LD transfers possible, first by using the X0 player to obtain as pristine a rip as possible, then by going through the entire film and restoring it (i.e., removing dirt, scratches, garbage mattes... they even developed a program to restore the original starfield in the film's opening title crawl).

Then... the GOUT came along.  For some, this meant the X0 Project was dead.  However, as the team points out on their website, the GOUT still suffers from a variety of problems, thus still requiring a preservation effort such as this one.

So, now, the question of the X0 Project's usefulness is debatable.  Some feel that the GOUT provides a sufficient preservation of the OT, especially when converted to anamorphic video and with g-force's script applied.  Others, meanwhile, contend that the X0 team can still turn out a superior product to the GOUT, as evidenced by some of the screencaps and webdocs they've shared with us (check the links on page 1 of the thread or on the X0 website).

On the topic of the Falcon/Blockade Runner, here are some other early concept drawings/models:

Welcome back Zion... I guess that bumps up the number of remaining X0 members from 2 to 3.  Too bad Laserman got sucked into a parallel dimension where the internet was never invented... still, hope he's ok.

With Zion back (and presumably MeBe's laserdiscs), does that offer a glimmer of hope that the project might continue at some point in the near future?  Or is this thing still dead in the water due to Laserman's absence?  Someone jog my memory... what, exactly, was Laserman doing that the other members are unable to do themselves?

 Two things:

1)  What's this "master plan" the Emperor is supposed to have?  Based on the conversation, the way I see it , it looks as though Palpatine just wants Luke whacked so he no longer poses a threat.  It's Vader who then comes up with the idea of turning Luke to the Dark Side -- reason being a) he's his son, and b) Vader sees Luke as a means to move up the corporate ladder and take Palpatine's job.  The Emperor, for his part, agrees to this suggestion, either because a) he acknowledges that 3 bad guys are better than 2, or b) he knows what Vader is up to and wants to beat him at his own game (i.e., use Luke to get rid of the competition which Vader poses, which is exactly what he ends up doing in ROTJ).

2) Even if ady wanted to rework the dialogue as you suggested, how would you propose he do it?  There exists no such footage with which to work.  (I have this hilarious visual of snippets of Emperor dialogue cut and pasted together... I'm sure that would look convincing).

He has sent proof of postage to Paypal and they are satisfied that he has indeed posted it and closed the claim. Now the bad news is that he sent it via uninsured mail which has really fucked me off because the post office offers almost nothing in compensation when sent uninsured. it doesn't mater how valuable the item is supposed to be all they will offer me is £30 for losing it. The seller had proof that he had contacted the post office prior to contacting me to find out where it is and they can find no trace of it. So that's it. the falcon is gone. I'm really pissed off at the seller for sending something so valuable without the postal insurance just to save a couple of pounds (which the amount in postage i paid would have more than covered this).So this has set me back a lot now.

Maybe this should be worked into ESB:R... instead of taking off to Bespin, our heros can simply evade the Empire by listing themselves on ebay and getting lost in the mail... brilliant!

I really am sorry to hear that though, ady... can you follow this up with the post office?

My "cut and paste" suggestion was due to my concern for keeping the configuration of the bridge pits consistent... I was not so worried about repeated shots (although I know that's a personal source of frustration for you).

ady, a couple questions for ya:

1) how exactly did the added TIE fighter lasers cause problems in the asteroid chase sequence?

2) where'd you get the 2 "yes's" from for the Emperor's new dialogue?  Sounds great.

As for the Star Destroyer bridge pit continuity issue, is it possible to simply "cut and paste" previous shots of the pit into other shots?  If not, I'm happy thinking that maybe the consoles just pivot and can be moved around.

I really don't think this is the kind of thing ady would bother changing, especially when there's nothing inherently wrong with the scene in question.

Changing something just for the sake of changing it is not something that the Revisited edits are known for.

The building above Leia's apartment is the rest of the main building (the one we see to the left of the screen in the preceding aerial shot).  I believe Darth Lars was showing how physically separating the apartment and moving it down the side of the building could help with the continuity issues.  However, the apartment still appears to be too high up (it looks like it's still near the top, and that it's only been moved down maybe 10 ft.).

Regarding the continuity issue with the Cloud City fly-through/Leia apartment shots, could you simply do something like this ady?

With Leia's building lowered and the cloud car platform moved to the foreground a bit more, it seems to jive with the shot that follows it, no?

Even if the continuity were fixed by doing this, I realize lowering the apartment may not look too good in terms of composition.  I suppose some background buildings could be added, though, just to balance the shot out.

focuspuller, the "An Adywan Production" screen was in ANH:R too... why wouldn't ady use it here as well?

And in bad taste?  I disagree.  Based on your previous posts, I must say that you seem very concerned with "stepping on the toes" of others, especially when those toes belong to big corporations.

Relax... this operation is small enough to go unoticed by the empire... which is advantageous considering our clients don't want to draw attention to themselves ;)

Awesome trailer ady... I've watched it 3 times and I'm sure I still haven't caught everything that there is to see.  That shot of Cloud City is GORGEOUS.  Also, in an attempt to keep this post spoiler free, let me just compliment you on the ever-so-subtle "lighting effects" in the carbon freeze chamber.
