Is anyone feeling the second part (beginning at Obi's apparition) could be darker, as night is meant to be falling?

Like everyone else, overall I think Ady's colour correction is superb on this latest clip.  However, I'd have to agree with you savmagoett...  I hate to admit it, but as God-awful as that blue tint is on the 2004 version, I did like how it made the exterior scenes seem later in the day.  It kind of added a stronger sense of urgency, as night really seemed to be falling quickly.

Well, since Ric Olie only states obvious facts, I guess he must be the most handsome person here.

Vaderios, thanks for the excellent mock ups you've posted recently.  I was about to say that I liked your Dagobah / X-wing reveal shots, but that I'd leave out the zoom effect and just have the heavy fog roll away... but then Ady announced that it's already being dealt with, so that's good with me.

Ady, loving the shots/clips you've been sharing.  I'm very impressed by the shot of Luke setting Yoda down on the log on Dagobah... amazing fix.

After reviewing your recent posts, I'm thinking you need to change your sig to "It's been fixed." :)

I'm really digging the Dagobah images Angel.  What I like most about your mock-ups is that they really open up the space while still retaining that claustrophobic feel to them, which greatly reduces that on-set feeling.  However, I find the light tends to be too bright in most of your images.  I think Dagobah should remain dark and murky... like the trees are so high and the clouds so thick that almost no light gets through to the ground.  Too much light can really kill that traditional mood going on in these scenes.

Here's a sample clip of how the scene with Yoda, just before Luke enters the tree, could be re-edited so as to allow Yoda more time to move from the ground to the fallen tree stump.

It's pretty rough, but it conveys the general idea.  My apologies for the screwed-up aspect ratio as well.

ImperialFighter

Regarding the Yoda/sack shot, after reviewing the scene, I believe it could be re-edited rather easily so as to allow more time between seeing Yoda set down and seeing him sitting on the log beside the sack.  This would help lend credibility (and time) for Yoda to crawl out of the sack, sit, and pull the sack up beside him.

I'm just working on editing the clip right now.  Hopefully I'll have a sample ready shortly that shows what I mean.

Angel, that is a very nice mock-up.  I wasn't sure if I liked it at first, but the more I see it the more I like it; it might be something worth considering for Ady to incorporate.  However, the "inconsistency" of Yoda moving from the ground to the rock is a bit more of a bother to be honest... although I'm not sure what could be done to "fix" that.  I guess one could simply assume he moved between scenes.

Just to backtrack for a moment... Ady, I'm crazy-impressed with those Halloween decorations.  If you can do all that with a bit of cardboard, toilet paper, and glue in just a few days, I can't wait to see what you churn out for the new wampa, Falcon, and new Echo Base elements.

LOL.  This book really should--nay, MUST--be written!

On a similar off-topic topic, does anyone know if there is a video on the net of all of Ric Olie's dialogue assembled into one moving and powerful montage?  If so, I'd love to see that.

I think Padme's Ruminations is the best scene/new score in Episode III...

Agree with you 100% on that point Darth Venal.  I'd go so far as to say it's the best scene, visually and musically, of the entire PT.  As much as there is that needs fixing in the PT, it's moments like this one that remind me that there are still a good deal of scenes that make the PT worth watching.

Luke: There is still good in those movies... I've felt it.

Ben: They're more special effects, now, than movie... twisted and evil.

Thanks for the in-depth update on where you're at and what you still need Ady.  Although I don't think I'll be able to swing £350, I'll try to send a little something your way in the near future :)  I'd love to donate right now, but I'm just in the middle of house renovations, plus I'm off on paternity leave, so money's a little tighter than usual.

Hopefully I'll be able to send a donation by late November at the latest.

Ady, thanks for the update and sneak peek at the Vader shot (and thanks too to Angel for pointing it out).

A couple questions for you though:

First, could you refresh my memory... why are you doing a new Echo Base and Falcon model?  I forget what problems these were supposed to help you fix (i.e., specific shots?  Continuity issues?)

Secondly, what are the donations helping you with exactly?  I'm assuming they're going towards materials for the various physical elements you're currently constructing?

Lastly, the idea of pasting our faces into ESB:R is interesting, but I wonder if I'd even like to see my own face in it (on the one hand it would be kinda cool, but on the other it might take me out of the movie... and yet I'd be IN the movie... how ironic).  At any rate, regardless of the whole cameo thing, I wasn't aware that funds were still so desperately needed, and I'd like to contribute again.  Before I do, though, is there any "minimum" donation that makes it worthwhile?  I ask only because once the funds get changed from Canadian to British currency, I'm not sure how "usable" a donation becomes.

And please, don't ever let a lack of funds, some people's desire for a definitive release date, or simply exhaustion discourage you from finishing this edit.  I'd rather ESB:R take 20 years to complete than to have you abandon it altogether :)

Now go get some sleep man! :)

I'm aware of the whole "Vader-and-Palpatine-are-playing-dumb-to-overthrow-the-other" explanation (I've discussed the conversation ad nauseum in the past, both on this and other forums).  It's just that it seems to create more problems/questions than it answers, and I wondered if just moving the scene to an earlier point in the film would alleviate some of issues.

In the end, I guess the safest thing to do would be to leave it as close to the original 1980 version as possible.  Besides, there's nothing to worry about... Ady's never let us down before.  I'm sure whatever he decides to do will be for the best.

Edit: And on the topic of Jaitea's audio work... just listened to it on my regular PC and I can now clearly hear the difference between "Luke" and the rest of the dialogue.  That said, it's still a good effort -- better than what I turned out when I tried the same thing awhile back, at any rate.

My .02... granted I'm hearing this on a netbook, but I think Jaitea's audio editing sounds terrific.  His insertion of "Luke" in the hologram scene sounded pretty seamless to me.  Maybe I should listen to it again on my desktop computer later just to verify.

Now, the issue of whether "Luke" or "young" works better from a dialogue point of view is another matter.  The idea of omitting Luke's name altogether as per cap's suggestion is interesting too, however I think it'd be a bit odd to be discussing this new enemy and not first confirming who exactly they're talking about.  If each knew the other was talking about Luke, why did the Emperor bother notifying Vader in the first place?

The more I think about this scene, the less sense it makes.  Why would the Emperor contact Vader half way through the film to tell him about Luke?  Wouldn't he know what Vader was up to, and whom he was after, all this time?

I wonder if the scene would be better off if it appeared earlier in the movie... thoughts?

I think i need to step in before it gets out of control.

IF, and its a very big if, i do a v2 DVD it will only have 2 changes at the most:- the spinning starfield and maybe the torture droid needle. Nothing else. The V2 would only really be done if i decide to do an audio commentary track. I don't want to do any more work on ANH. There is no point suggesting fixes and changes because, i'm sorry, but they just won't happen. I really need to move forward, not back.

I hope you understand :)

Sorry ady, I was under the impression that ANH:R v2, if done, might have been open to more alterations than those which you mentioned.  I certainly didn't mean to seem as if I'm unhappy with ANH:R -- quite the opposite: I love it.

I guess your "moving forward" can only bode well for those of us anxiously awaiting ESB:R :)

That said, complaining about the menu really raises us to a new level of nitpicking — how many faneditors make animated menus that are mostly indistinguishable from the professional ones?

Yeah, I feel kinda petty for mentioning it, but I only did so for consistency's sake.  Of course, assuming adywan does a similar custom menu for the rest of the trilogy, then it's a moot point.
