Star Wars in 50 years.
Time

I doubt Lucas will ever really concede to releasing the OOT properly during his lifetime, but I'm hoping that after he's gone, FOX might step in and begin releasing the OOT alongside the '04 trilogy in order to meet consumer demand.  I don't know much about copyright with regards to film, however, so I don't know if this is a possibility.

Overall I'm pretty optimistic, as I think a core group of the younger generation will continue not only to be aware of but prefer the original '77, '80, and '83 releases  over the '04 set thanks to people like us.  I gave my three younger cousins (now 10, 8, and 6 years old) copies of the originals on DVD, and to my knowledge those are the only versions of the OT they've ever seen.  I plan on doing the same for my own two children once they're old enough.

. . .

Sorry, I just had a vision of my wife talking to my children in the event of my untimely death:

Mom: (reaching into a trunk and pulling out some dusty OOT DVD cases) Your father wanted you to have this when you were old enough, but Lucas wouldn't allow it.  He feared you might follow OT.com forum members and prefer quality over crap, like your father did.

Kids: What is it?

Mom: Your father's Original Original Trilogy discs.  These are the movies of a true Star Wars fan -- not as clumsy and random as the PT.  Elegant movies... for a more civilized age.

Any favorite Star Wars scenes?
Time

As a kid, I loved, loved, loved the trash compactor scene.  It was such a predicament to overcome (the monster, walls closing), and it just plain looked cool.  I remember in winter I'd go in my grandmother's backyard and slosh around in a big puddle, where I'd pretend the bits of ice floating on the surface were like the garbage floating in the water.

Nowadays, I'd say my favourite scene is a toss up between Ben looking over at Luke in ANH just before Vader kills him, or (and I hate admitting this) the scenes in ROTS where Anakin and Padme stare across the city at each other with only the Brian Eno-ish music playing, or Obi-Wan saying to Padme, "Anakin is the father, isn't he?... I'm so sorry," just before he leaves to go kill Anakin.

Thanks for the info Zion.  Like zombie84, I don't remember hearing some of those details before, but in any case it's nice having them repeated here.

I think releasing those two completed shots could be very helpful to a lot of the fan editors here, who, at the very least, could use them as benchmarks against which they can evaluate their own edits.

If we go with that route then ady must add the face plate on vader's head.

Are you referring to the right side of Vader's face mask?  If so, this doesn't need to be added as it wouldn't be visible in the scene (part of the meditation chamber is blocking the front of Vader's head).  Only the raised crown-like section is visibly missing (assuming the mask is on).

ESB's helmet was meant to be 2 pieces i think

Doesn't that just support what I said?

Thanks for the links to Ady's previous comments re: the meditation chamber doorway ImperialFighter.

On a related note, I was re-watching the scene where Vader's helmet gets lowered onto his head while in the meditation chamber, and I started wondering: given the two piece configuration we see in ROTJ and ROTS, as well as the way it's removed/installed in each, wouldn't his face mask already be on?  If so, shouldn't we be seeing the top of the mask (the raised portion that sits on top of Vader's head)?  (See pictures 1 and 2 for reference).  I suppose one could argue that the mask and helmet are being lowered simultaneously, however we never see them put in place/removed together at any other time.

Right click and open in new tab or window for full size:

Also, when the helmet is lowered in ESB, there appears to be some sort of appendage on the front of the helmet -- I'm not sure if it's supposed to be the triangular vent of the front of the mask or not, but again, going by all other images of Vader's mask, I don't think we'd see any such protrusion, even if the mask were indeed attached at the time (see images 3, 4 & 5).  (Note: the appendage in question is more visible in motion than in the screen cap below).  That being said, I'm not sure if it's possible to digitally erase this portion or not in motion.

My 2¢: I like the idea of either an antechamber or elongated hallway.  Either serves to make Vader's meditation room seem more isolated and imposing, and therefore threatening.

I wish I could remember what Ady said on the subject, alas 865 pages worth of information is a lot to keep track of.

It might be good, but it looks like crap ;)

Just to clarify, my 2¢ on the floating X-wing shot: I like the added detail of the trees in the background of your mock-up, but I dislike the brightness of the image.  As someone else recently stated, the gloomy feel of Dagobah should not be sacrificed.

As for the shot of the X-wing's wing in the water, I like the elimination of the vignette around the edges, but the altered colours don't work (see previous comment re: maintaining gloominess).

... in my opinion :)

@ Vaderios: to echo Bingowings, even though I don't always like or agree with your suggestions, I welcome them nonetheless as I believe sharing ideas can only benefit ESB:R.  However, you may want to consider being more diplomatic in how you defend your position in the future; calling something someone else likes "crap" simply because you personally don't like it might not garner a very positive response.

Despite your talent at image editing, please remember that your opinions are just that: opinions.  Although you may like such things as extensive use of CGI and high-contrast visuals, others do not.  I'm sure others here would agree with me that "newer" does not necessarily mean "better."

Wow... I had no idea Ady had run into the thousands of pounds working on ESB:R already.  I wonder what ANH:R's cost was by comparison.

And man, I did not need to read those comments about ROTJ:R... it's not nice to whet one's appetite when the meal hasn't even begun cooking yet ;)

Thanks so much for the clip Ady; it was a very welcome surprise.  The colours are gorgeous -- I love seeing Yoda's skin looking the way I remember it as a kid.  I also thought your subtle tweaks to Yoda's mouth as he speaks were perfect.

I hate giving criticism on such terrific work, especially when I can't do anything approaching that level of quality myself, however there were two things I wanted to suggest:

1) When Yoda says, "Look at me: judge me by my size do you?", I notice you now have his eyes shift to keep his focus on Luke beginning with the word "judge."  However, I think Yoda should start to shift his gaze earlier, right from the beginning of "Look at me."  Currently, he appears to be looking off into space for a few moments.

2) As someone else suggested, is it possible to have the X-wing begin to sink/bubble/make noise the moment R2 first turns to look at it?  I don't know if it would be possible, but it would help explain why R2 turns around, and it would eliminate what currently seems like an unrealistically fast rate for the ship to sink.

As for Needa's shuttle, I think it's absolutely perfect as is.

Adywan, I think you should just give up on this Wampa. It's taking too long and you don't even know if this is going to work? I thought the one in the movie sufficed. I think you should have just edited using that.

If only you had asked Ady to post a new clip while he was at it, I'd have sworn you were really Sevb32 ;)
