Does it depress you...

CO said:

The frustrating is actually Lucas has created this fan rift between which version you love more, where it never had to get like this.

Look at movies like Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Terminator 2, ET, The Abyss, Aliens, Bladerunner, etc, all have DVD and some BluRay releases with both versions. I have never argued or even cared which version another fan liked. I have never gotten offended that there are 5 versions of Bladerunner, and the one I love might not be the preferred one by the majority. If some fans prefers the ET/SE with walkie talkies instead of guns, so be it, I don't ever have to watch that version.

If Lucas had released both versions on DVD in 2004, and on BluRay in 2011, the fanbase wouldn't have silly arguments on Han Shooting first, or should Hayden in be in ROTJ Ghost Scene. I could watch the OOT, another fan could watch the SE, and we could live happily ever after.

I dont think it is sad, I think it is frustrating because this whole SE vs OOT is so unneccesary, and this could have been nipped in the bud years ago.

^ Excellent post. It's realizing truths like this that really makes one wonder why Lucas is so dead set against releasing both versions.

I'm starting to wonder just how aware he is of the divided fan base. Does anyone have any interviews wherein Lucas acknowledges the fans' desire to have the OOT? Is he completely oblivious to the demand, or just that entrenched in preserving his ego?

Episode I: The Ridiculous Menace (FULL MOVIE IS AVAILABLE TO STREAM, SEE FIRST POST)
Time

I laughed out loud when Qui-Gon starts telling Shmi about the parts he needs. Anakin asking his mom if she's an angel was good too, and well-executed in terms of audio.

After Ani says, "Isn't he great?" with regards to 3PO, is there a line of dialog you could give Padme in response (something like "I don't know" or maybe cut out the "I don't" part and just have her say "no")?

Screw it -- steal anything and everything if it makes TRM funnier :)

"Excuse me, but I'm commandeering this footage in the name of ridiculousness."

* * *

Scene's funny as is Frink, but I have to admit that stretch of silence cracks me up. I'm all for lifting it and simply crediting this "pundle" guy in the credits.

^ Newly composited Falcon? Taken from existing footage or is that the Fine Molds Falcon you had purchased?

^ I love the detail in this shot -- it's cool seeing the troopers in the cockpit. Again, wondering if this is from existing footage or the recently-constructed AT-AT model.

The shot reminds me of the scene from Hitchcock's Rear Window, where the neighbour that Jimmy Stewart's spying on stares directly back at him:

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)
Time

Have a lot of you been asked about your feelings regarding the blu-rays yet? If so, and assuming your reaction is negative, are people surprised?

I ask because I've now had two people approach me about this upcoming release. In both instances, the people knew I'm a Star Wars fanatic, so they were surprised when I told them that I was not, in fact, planning on buying this set when it comes out. I then proceeded to explain the whole OOT vs. SE issue, something which they were completely oblivious to.

I then started thinking how weird it must seem to people to say you're a fan of Star Wars, and then explain why you dislike the films (at least as they currently exist). I wonder just how "on the fringe" some of us are here in terms of Star Wars fandom -- do a lot of other fans dislike the SEs, or are we really in the minority?

I hate that the changes are so well executed that I'm probably missing about half of them in that trailer ;)

Really, really good work Ady. Aside from the colours being superb, I particularly liked the new snowspeeders shot, as well as the Bespin approach and landing platform shots.

I'd like to know where the shot of the Rebel transport taking off came from, however...

How hard is it to also post the link:

Apparently not hard at all. Look! You just did it!

Seems more like you are being highly selective. 5 selected negatives out of 132... (and there's so many double posts...)

I never said there weren't positive comments. I was merely surprised that the first comments I saw were negative, and that such comments were being left there as opposed to being deleted or bumped down.

And to be clear, there are about an equal number of negative posts as there are positive. I would say that indicates a less than positive response to this release.

How could you gloss over post 2?

Easy, I just kinda let my eyes slowly descend past the writing without reading it.

Seems response at starwars.com isn't too positive:

GuardianKen said:

I do like the complete saga box art, but the individual trilogy box art looks terrible, like someone dropped the ball

boffomusicguy said:

All my favorite moments? Really? I'll list them.-Han shoots first.-Jabba is not in Episode IV-We never see the full Wampa creature on Hoth.-In Episode V, the Emperor has the face of an old woman and is actually voiced by Clive Revill as the end credits state.-We don't see Vader return to his Super Star Destroyer after dueling Luke in Episode V-Hayden Christensen is not Anakin's force ghost in Episode VI-The original music from the end celebration in Episode VI.Now, if the set delivers those moments in full HD and 6.1 DTS Master Audio, I'll pre-order tomorrow (which is payday for me), otherwise, as previously stated, I will not buy it or accept it as a gift.

JoeC said:

This countdown to star wars day was a major disappointment. Has a lifelong fan of the original trilogy I felt betrayed.

jeditito36 said:

Not at all excited about the box art

Jedi Sprite said:

I'm sorry Lucasfilm but the Complete Saga artwork is terrible.

Too bad most of the critical comments seem to be about the artwork and not the actual movies (or lack thereof).

What did we honestly do to deserve to be constantly fucked int he ass? It seems the better quality home video gets, the OT gets increasingly worse treatment. GL/LFL are probably the most sadistic people alive today (outside of a third world dictatorship). They made the most profitable franchise in movie history, so I guess that gives them the right to screw people over and not even give a fuck about the legacy they are destroying. Lucas is a fraud. A stone cold, utterly talentless fraud. NO one honestly expected the PT to as bad as it ended up. NO one expected the OT to be constantly changed every seven years and make the originals that made him an undeserving billionaire unavailable and impossible to enjoy. All he is done in the last 20 years is expose himself for the waste of life he truly is. He is scum. And people think I am insane? GL and his cartel have not done a sane, reasonable act since 1981.

Every time I read your posts, generalfrevious, this image comes to mind:

Star Wars OT & 1997 Special Edition - Various Projects Info (Released)

Regarding the sound on the V3s, I have a quick question: I only have a modest sound setup at the moment (2.1), but Hairy_Hen's mix seems "overblown" in parts when I play back ANH (the only one I've burned so far). Specifically, some highs/lows seem to really give my speakers a workout.

So, question is... is it just my crap system unable to handle the audio, or have others had a similar experience? I've never had a similar issue with commercial DVDs in the past, so I was just curious.
