The Stand by Stephen King. Wow, this is long.

Which version are you reading?

I’m now reading Cline’s Ready Player One.

Good luck with that. I couldn’t get past his pages-long soul-crushing tirade about how the idea of God is stupid, that he’s smart for realizing it, and then goes back to lamenting how pointless life is and at least he has Family Ties reruns to keep him busy.

are you saying even tho he has seen we still will believe he only likes it because of hype?

That would be “likes it better than ESB” because of hype.

I’m not saying I do. I’m saying people put R1 or TFA at the top of their list and then get blasted by someone for succumbing to hype and spectacle.

none of us have seen TLJ so we have no idea if he’s off base or not.

That wouldn’t stop some people from trolling about how anything post-ESB sucks though.

Dom’s right. Give us about a week. Then we’ll blast him for ranking it over the OT. 😉

A week? I have tickets for Friday.

Disney to buy 20th (21st) Century Fox? (Disney has now bought them - 14 Dec '17)

You’re kidding, right? Despecialized is amazing and we are all grateful to Harmy, but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s a color corrected 1080p transfer interlaced with shots from laser disc and minimally restored 35mm.

No, I’m not. LFL already screwed up the color timing, contrast and saturation on the SE Blurays, so I don’t have much faith that they will correct it for the official HD OUT.

You assume that the negatives used by LFL would not also have to be color-corrected. Sure, they might be able to produce a 4K transfer, which is fantastic, but I’m not convinced the rest of it would be superior, considering how they’ve treated the SEs even up to now.

At that point, why not just have a box set of I-VIII with a spot reserved for IX?

Other than “because by that point many fans will probably already have bought TFA and TLJ”?

Not to mention the slippery slope of “do they stick to the main saga or do they throw in Rogue One and Han Solo as well?”

If the remaster is done correctly, I’d pay damn-near any price for the OUT, even if it’s in a big giant boxed set of other stuff.

I have a sincere, doubtful suspicion whether the studio would put anywhere near the quality of effort into a restoration as Harmy (and co.) has. I do want an OUT Remaster, especially since I can then legitimately prefer an existing HD OUT without being labelled “nerdy” or “purist”, but I don’t think it will hold a candle to Despecialized. There was just so much painstaking attention to detail put in.

I might, I might not. That all depends on whether Luke dies or not.

I predict that, since Han Solo is dead and Carrie Fisher has passed away, thus necessitating the removal of her character from the franchise, they will not kill off Luke in TLJ.

I predict that, if they hold to the “rhyming” gimmick, Luke will die in Episode IX.

what does that rhyme with?

Yoda dying, I suppose. If Luke is Rey’s mentor in the second film of the ST as Yoda was Luke’s in the second of the OT… and Yoda died in in the third, then Luke likely also dies in the third. Because it “rhymes” as per George Lucas.

I’m not saying it’s a good idea. Just that the “it rhymes” sort of nonsense from the Prequels seems to have carried over to the Sequels as well.

Petition to give Warbler his Sigh Back
Time

It’s not a backwards step. If anything I think if people are getting uppity indirectly as a result of it, then maybe such people need to not be as uppity. That doesn’t mean Warbler ought police himself for something as inconsequential as a *sigh* because other people can’t help themselves in generally getting bent out of shape.

This isn’t the Parody Existing Usernames Thread. There’s nothing particularly wrong with those as usernames. They’d be unoriginal but not the worst.

Per se, perhaps not. If one were to assume parody, then perhaps not. But if one were to assume more sinister or twisted motivations than merely parody, then possibly so.

can’t read that jumble

Okay.

He’s right though. Also you’re arguing with the OP.

Okay.

Yes, I know he’s right, and that he’s the OP. They were just the best I could think of at the time.

Oh shit you’re right. The crawl is slightly retimed. I can as a result never watch this again, nor enjoy it in conjunction with the other films.

Considering the nitpickery of some people in these threads, that may not be far from the truth for them.
