Help: looking for... Best Original Trilogy/Prequel Edits for newbies?
Time

I think the best Episode I is Q2's (aka. Thunderclap's). The reason for this is that though L8wrtr's edit is good, in various places where the dialogue is missing, there seems to remain a time where the dialogue could have been spoken which leaves one thinking something was removed from that space. In short, the periods where there was dialogue cut need to be tightened up. Q2 does this wonderfully. Seciors' edit was very well done as far as story, but there are places where he takes a word or two of dialogue from one place in the film and puts it in the middle of another scene, and the inflections sound like they don't quite match.

The best Episode II is L8wrtr's. Q2's comes in at a very close second, but L8wrtr's edges out in being slightly better at handling the love story. It's hard to say specifically what is different for me, as I haven't compared them scene for scene. It's more of a feeling I get between the characters. Seciors' is ambitious, but again the dialogue edits in places are a bit noticeable and jarring.

The best Episode III is Q2's because although Kerr, L8wrtr and Stankpac want to have Palpatine reveal his "Sith form", the implementation they use just doesn't work very well at all given the available footage (cut to Palpy who looks normal, then to Anakin/Windu, then back to Palpy who is inexplicably wrinkly.) Also, L8wrtr wants to keep Yoda from using a lightsaber, so he creates a wtf moment where Yoda is in danger and then is inexplicably not anymore.

Further, Q2 (Thunderclap) does all he can to remove R2 and 3PO from the prequels, and while I was skeptical at first, it really really does help the story a lot.

Why are we talking about changing the OT storyline? It's the PT that's screwed up.

And regarding Boba Fett, I don't see what the big deal is with him dying in the sarlacc. In ESB, he didn't really do anything more than follow the Falcon for a bit, tell Vader where it was going, and sell Solo's frozen body to Jabba the Hutt. None of this makes him in any way badass. If anything, OOT Greedo is more badass than Boba Fett because at least Greedo got the drop on Han (however briefly).

Blu-Ray and other HD box size STAR WARS covers
Time

rough ROTJ cover:

I'm trying to figure out which two characters to put on the leather portions of the back.

I could reuse Luke, Han or Leia; but there's a bunch of other people I'm not sure about which to use: Chewie, Yoda, Sebastian Shaw's Anakin, Lando...

Then, of course, there's Wedge, Ackbar, Wicket and Nien Nunb. :)

I could also put Vader or Palpatine, but the other covers have heroes on them.

What do you all think I should put?

Oh, and regarding the crawls, I'm going to modify/fix how they look on every cover after I have the rest of my ROTJ cover settled.

And the reason why I don't have specifications listed for the movies is because 1) they change, depending on the version (ie. I don't know what extras Harmy's v2.5 BD comes with), and 2) It's easy enough this way to change only a few things here and there and make a 2-disc Harmy/Ady cover.

Well, it's Frink, not Davdar.

When I looked on fanedit.info after he posted that, it wasn't there. Also, I didn't know what he meant by upload "list." Did he mean he added them to the RAR on fanedit.info? No. There was only one .dlc, and its links are dead. Besides, I thought Davdar was in control of that. Did he mean he uploaded them to MySpleen? No. None of those are NTSC, nor are any of them recent uploads.

You can understand my confusion.

Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)

It seems to me that many of the issues we are noticing with 2.1 (eg. frame freezing while R2 talks on the BR; jerky orbital shot of Tatooine; inconsistent opening crawl speed) are, in fact, issues that the original theatrical release may have had; and the fact that the picture quality of this remaster is so good, itmakes such imperfections wih the source that much easier to spot.

In other words, it's Lucas' fault, not Harmy's.

@Harmy, what is on your list of fixes for 2.5 thus far?

I got fired up about Star Wars when someone on the Telltale Games forums told me about Adywan's ANH Revisited.

Some weeks later, I downloaded Harmy's DeSpecialized Trilogy v1.0. I didn't care for "Star Wars" v1.0 compared to ANH:R because of the purple dewback and the yellowish tint in the Blockade Runner.

(I also went looking for the most watchable prequel trilogy, and found Q2's to be my go-to edits.)

But then Harmy started releasing footage of v2.1--and dang. FAN-FRICKEN-TASTIC.

I'm hooked on the Star Wars saga now. I've probably seen SW:DE v2.1 four times from start to finish since he released it.

I would say more changes than what merely qualifies as "most."

Repainting R2's dome while in space back to black (ie. intentionally reinserting the original inconsistencies) would, I think, be one of the many above-and-beyond sorts of changes that doesn't come across when you say "most."

What you really mean by "most" is that there are certain original elements which border on unknowable as to what exactly they looked like originally, so you won't exactly claim "all" of them as fixed.

I had a look at a 35mm print of ESB last year that had only been screened 3 times and had been kept in climate controlled storage. It had very little fade, [...] I only wish the owner would consent to having it scanned.

Did you ask if he would consent? What did he say, exactly?

Sounds like a delicate subject to broach. Not sure how I would word that. But I wonder if he could be made to understand what a benefit it would be to the Star Wars fan community...

Maybe if you showed SW:DE v2.1 to him. :)

It's perfectly fine for people to prefer the "Prime Universe," but they still have 24 seasons and 10 movies to fall back on. The problem wasn't with pleasing hardcore fans, it's with gaining new ones--which is the opposite of Star Wars' problem as I see it.
Poor "Enterprise", not even counted! ;-)

crap. How did I manage that?

Yeah that works, I'm pretty sure I can convert to NTSC anyway.

What program do you use?

Does it include the menus?

I have a PAL version, I believe it is the one described here although Windows shows it as 5.85 GB. If you guys are happy with that I can upload it to MySpleen, though my connection is very slow. Might take a few days.

Anything is better than nothing at all.
