Harmy's RETURN OF THE JEDI Despecialized Edition HD - V3.1
Time

All-in-all, I just want to have the best possible presentation, as mentioned A LOT, of STAR WARS, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi.

“Best” is subjective. If you want the best possible Bluray-quality, Technicolor release, Harmy’s Despecialized Editions (v2.5; v2.0; and v1.0 respectively) are the latest official releases. v2.5 ESB and ROTJ are soon to come (although “soon” is a relative timeframe).

If you want the best playing-from-a-film-projector quality, Team Negative 1’s “Silver Screen Edition” would be a better choice.

Of course I wouldn’t mind if Harmy, maybe he already has?, of the 1981 re-release with the EPISODE IV A NEW HOPE added to the crawl.

No. This is beyond the scope of Despecialized Edition. This has been asked of Harmy repeatedly, and this is the answer he and everyone helping him always gives. Someone else needs to do it. Case in point: Laserschwert, not Harmy, converted the title cards and the entire crawl to reflect the original “Krieg der Sterne” German release.

I was able to find the 720p 3GB torrent for this, along with STAR WARS and The Empire Strikes Back, but don’t know which version number it is. […]

Which version you have is shown after the end credits. After the last of the end credits scroll by, the screen fades to black and the music ends, wait about 5 seconds and the version information will appear.

[…] EDIT: For the Despecialized, STAR WARS is v2.5, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi is MMXI. I’ll look for newer versions of the latter two.

MMXI is 2011 in roman numerals. That indicates it is v1.0

I don’t think ROTJ has an official version beyond 1.0 (yet. 2.0WP is not technically an official release.) But ESB 2.0 is out. You should get that while waiting for Harmy to finish up ESB v2.5.

I took the DVD case art and resized it to fit a bluray (also swapped the DVD logo out and added a bluray logo).

Sorry for the rush job on this. Please let me know if anybody does a better one later.

These are great, but I have one minor niggle: for episode 1 the top of the droid just clips the text at the top which in my opinion (as well as in the other two cases) do not touch?

What’s wrong with it touching the text?

at about 00:03:10 on the WP, during the downward shot of Vader’s shuttle entering the hangar, there is flickering around the shuttle. It is most obvious on the bottom edges of the shuttle and on the left side of the shuttle’s central wing.

Also, at 00:04:08, the Stormtroopers’ uniforms have a slightly yellowish tint. This yellow tint is gone in the next shot during the same scene at 00:04:48.

Info Wanted: What is your ideal fanedit mash-up?
Time

I don’t think you do. I wasn’t trying to create the perfect fan edit or to start an actual project of it. I was trying to foster discussion. Specifically, discussion about what each person liked about each different edit that they had seen. Everyone’s opinion as to what is “best” is subjective. Given that this is a forum about Star Wars fan edits, I figure many people have seen many edits, and so I thought I’d start a conversation about it.

That’s all. (plus, I didn’t know about that “Redone” project before making this thread, nor did I know it had devolved into silliness.)

I always liked the idea of having a good, and also consistent prequel trilogy over having each individual film be the best version on it’s own merit. For that reason, I moved away from having L8wrtr’s Episode II as a favorite of that film. It’s very good, but I don’t agree with several of his choices in his Episode III.

Essentially, I start with Q2’s Fall of the Jedi as a baseline. He got so many things right for me. He removed the “Nooo!” first of all, but the way he did it was to remove the suit entirely, and I found that to be a wonderful way to leave the Anakin character, with the uncertainty of whether or not he lived. Also, I find The Cutter’s idea of having Padme live, fleeing to Alderaan with her daughter, to be a wonderful idea.

Now, here’s the thing. Remember I said I prefer consistency? Well, Both Hal and Q2 have Padme live to escape with Leia (and edit it in well). Because of this, it allows me to treat Hal’s edits as a sort of “Extended Edition” to Q2’s edits, because they don’t conflict with each other regarding the conclusion to the story.

Hal, (or anyone really,) is there completed-trilogy bluray case cover art for these edits?

My dad’s birthday is coming up, and I’m giving him burned copies of my Star Wars edits/preservations. I bought some (standard width) 3-disc bluray cases to but your whole trilogy in, but I’m still looking for cover art for it.

I really would appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction.

I was born in '78. So I only saw it when it said “A New Hope” in the crawl. So that is the version I too remember, but I only ever called it “Star Wars” as a kid. I don’t think anyone called it A New Hope, nor was it marketed as such until the prequels came out, so it’s not a big deal to me.

But yeah, I can see it would be nice.

Having watched many a Star Wars edit and liking this cut from that edit, but that cut from this one, I thought I’d start a discussion about what your ideal mash-up of Star Wars edits would be.

I’m not saying “Discuss your ideal imagined edit.” I’m saying “If you could create a mash-up from the currently available, existing Star Wars fanedits that you have seen, what scenes/cuts would you like most to include from which particular edits and why?”

Hi. I have a request. I would love to burn this to a DVD or Blu-Ray, but I want the title crawl which has “EPISODE IV: A NEW HOPE” on it. It’s a banality, so I thought to add it myself, but apparently technology hates me because the only editing software that managed to import the movie without trouble was nerfherding Movie Maker for Windows XP (which is obviously a problem, since I don’t want my Star Wars in 4:3)

So I humbly ask, could anyone please edit and post a version with the “EPISODE IV: A NEW HOPE” in the crawl?

Or you could download the Respecialized version.

JEDIT:That’s not a jab. I’m just suggesting.

…personally, I like just calling it “Star Wars” again. It makes me smile just thinking about it. 😃

But it doesn’t sound like Hayden. It doesn’t sound like /anyone/ in the cast.

That fact that we’re having this discussion, about which /actor/ we each think that voice belongs to (given that it could be attributed to Qui-Gon but it’s not Liam’s voice) rather than anyone knowing for sure, shows that it’s not good.

I finished the BD .iso of SW Despecialized 2.5 with menus. I was not able to make the DTS-MA files work. I ended up using the AVCHD. It still looks and sounds great. This, I think, will be a good stop-gap for anyone that wants to watch a blu-ray with menus prior to the release of the 1080p 3.0 releases that are supposed to have all the bells and whistles. I have uploaded a multipart .rar to mega. I need to know what the proper place to post the links is.

If I get a positive response to this setup, I’ll go ahead and modify the project for TESB and ROTJ.

PM?
