Star Wars Episode III: Labyrinth Of Evil (Released)

Okay, wait. I watched v4 first with the editor commentary, and when I got to the Vader scream I was totally looking forward to hearing the Russian scream. But I heard a NOOO!! instead… Wait, what?!? Okay, so I rewound and switched audio tracks. Yeah, it’s there in track 1. So why is there a 2nd non-commentary track? Oh, because Russian is in track 1 but English is in track 2. Hmm. I must not have been paying attention in the thread or something. I didn’t know you’d include both versions. That’s not a complaint, though.

But then… you took out Coruscant at the end. Poop.

Anyway, my only real qualm is that in the editor commentary for LOE you complain and poke fun at the story, in a way that suggests you don’t enjoy the film that much but instead sort of begrudgingly tolerate it. It detracts somewhat from the fun of watching, I feel, when meanwhile you’re hearing someone frequently complaining about it.

Fantastic edit(s) though. Very good indeed.

Anyone have plans to put together an NTSC DVD-5 version in the near future? I gave a couple partial DE sets as Christmas gifts and I’m hoping to provide the recipients with their final discs now that this is out. If this isn’t on anyone’s radar I can fool around with it myself over the weekend, but I don’t want to do anything redundant. I also suspect that those of you who know more about encoding than I do are capable of producing a much nicer product.

Not to belittle anyone, but who uses standard DVD players anymore? One can purchase a nice, Sony Bluray player from Best Buy for 50 bucks.

If it was a question of not having a Bluray burner then I would assume AVCHDs on DVD9s would solve that.

Similarly, for ripping movie discs I use MakeMKV; for re-encoding to a reasonable size I use Handbrake with the AppleTV 3 preset, and Video Quality set to 19 for DVD content and 21 for AVCHD/Bluray.

I use MakeMKV because it is fairly easy to use, it rips both DVDs and Blurays, and it’s currently free. I use Handbrake because everyone and their dog whom you ask says that it’s the best for reencoding video files.

What software do you use to burn blu ray discs of Hal’s trilogy ? I’m looking for one that would work on PC (I don’t have a Mac), with the possibility to add menu and bonus material.

I do not have Bluray menus for these. Rest assured that /if I did/, I would have put them on the spleen.

I use tsMuxer to mux the mkvs to Bluray folders; I use ImgBurn to burn discs. If you buy blank discs, buy Verbatim. Verbatim consistently uses quality manufacturers to make their blank media.

I’ve used software to make DVD menus before, for a wholly unrelated family project, but I’m not sure it could make Bluray menus.

… Okay, you’ve got me intrigued. I’ll look into what software might be best to use.

JEDIT: Cursory searches for Bluray menu software, even searching this site, indicate multiAVCHD is the best free software, and Adobe Encore is the best paid software for creating Bluray menus. The DVD menu software I had used previously was DVD Styler, which doesn’t make Bluray menus.

I don’t know if this is allowed but anyone care to upload the MKV to public torrent sites?
I don’t have myspleen invites, and don’t consider myself worth one (not a die hard SW fans as you guys), but I’d still want to watch the ROTJ 2.5 😃 (the uloz links for MKV have too many parts. if there’s a MEGA links that would be awesome)
Thanks all and especially Harmy

pm sent.

Damn. I wonder how many more problems we will discover with the NFOs - it’s always such a daunting task to prepare these releases. I think next time, the NFOs will just contain a link to a pastebin post that I can edit even after release.

I blame the guy who couldn’t wait.

Who, me?

I’m not impatient. It was just a day short on the timing for use in a birthday present (actually 2 days because I’d have to download it and then spend time muxing and burning it and such.)

No problems though. v1.0 is still fantastic. I didn’t need Harmy to hurry it up, really. I was just feeling like “aw, shucks” that I couldn’t have included it.

It’s a shame that even one prequel is going to be shown to those poor students, and I agree about the Rifftrax. I guess they are Satanic. Afterall, the stupid title crawl does state that “Evil is everywhere.” Although, in actuality, it was really only in one place, but whatever, it’s GL we’re talking about.

The prequels were abysmal, but their story was ambitious. I’ll be cleansing the palate with Return of the Jedi later, so don’t worry. Besides, Revenge of the Sith is incredibly Miltonic, so I have to teach it in a class on Milton and Star Wars.

EDIT: The special editions disappoint me more than the prequels ever could, because they worsened those films, especially ANH and ROTJ.

I have a few Prequel edits I can recommend…

It says “extended” on the spine because their runtimes are longer than Q2’s (for whose edits I have a similar-looking one.) I’m going to include an insert with the features and cutlist info.

I made it yellow because: A) the background on the “official” 9000 series covers is yellow; 2) I wanted to put the battle droid from said covers (or rather from the disc art) on the back; and d) I didn’t want to make the cover green.

Growing up with the OT, I think there was this impression of green sabers being better than blue, since Luke had a blue saber first and a green one later when he was more powerful. And since the OT cover is blue, I didn’t feel proper making the PT cover green (Q2’s is red, though).
…Plus, there are Jedi in Ep2 with gold/yellow sabers.

JEDIT: (by request)

NOTE: Much of this cover was taken directly from Video Collector’s covers. He said when he allowed me to have his covers that they were for my use and that I couldn’t directly distribute them.

Video Collector graciously allowed me to have a copy of his Minimal covers and Struzan covers.

I played around with them a bit, as I am making a birthday gift for my Dad. I may still work on them, but I think they’ve turned out beautifully so far. (NOTE: He asked me not to distribute his work, so I can’t give you a copy directly.)

JEDIT: I don’t know if you can see it properly up there, but the subtitles on the prequel spines look like this:

Hal’s is yellow, not green, because his “official” covers have a yellow background, and the Cloak of Deception covers have a battle droid on them which I wanted to utilize.

I’m rendering ROTJ v2.5 right now - ETA 10hrs. But I made so many changes since the last workprint and the project file got so big and complicated that I’m sure when I watch it, I will find that I forgot to turn some layer on or off or something stupid like that and will probably have to re-render but I have everything else ready, so currently, the intended release date is this Sunday.

Crap. I’m giving Star Wars DE to my Dad for his birthday on Sunday. Are you sure you can’t make it Saturday?
