Gotcha. The more 007 the merrier!

RF Demodulators always run high so I gave up hope of snagging one. Wound up getting the audio I needed from people here. I'd also have to get a different player...at least for DTS you don't need new equipment. Those tracks are simply on the digital audio and aren't compressed at all. Only Goldeneye and TND are this way.

What is on the shelf or desk near where you do your ot.com posting?
Time

Just looked up at the shelf above my computer and wondered what your surroundings looked like.

Mine from left to right: 97SE widescreen VHS set, The Persuaders, Batman the Animated Series, Smash Bros. Melee, Rogue Leader, the original Fleming Bond novels, Raymond Chandler's novels, some Hardy Boys casefiles, various CDs of mine-REM, U2, Clash, Cardigans, Bowie, Depeche Mode, autographed photo of Richard Kiel and all topped by library stuff.

Pretty random. perfect for off topic.

When was the last time you actually watched a prequel? (Or: Revenge of the Sith still blows.)
Time

TPM-last year with Ady's reconstruction. (Thank you ady!!) I like to be able to go back and review this one the way I originally saw it.

AOTC-used it to demo the school's new sound system because it was one of the few discs I had that had either Dolby EX or DTS ES. Got through about 5 min and then skipped around for 5 more. seeing these in 480p just makes all the more awful.

ROTS-hated it in theaters and finally was swayed into re-watching it by roommates who were convinced that it was great. Hadn't seen it in years by that point last year. I reiterate my original opinion that it is certainly the worst of the three.

Nothing compares to the horror of seeing AOTC in the motion sickness inducing omnimax dome!

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)
Time

Well, they should include the major versions to please everyone-but they won't. For a simple fix they should just stick to the 97 mix but use the DTS version and have it uncompressed. But they won't.

For a really badass huge mix they could use the 70mm mix as a base and then add in their precious SE elements for the new scenes and finally release it as a new 7.1 uncompressed mix. but they won't do that either.

So we'll just wait for this flawed new release....and once again show them how it should have been done.

1.The first time I saw part of BR was on TV with lots of ads and I got bored and switched away. Then finally seeing the Director's cut on DVD was a confusing revelation. I loved the movie but it didn't mesh with the parts I had already seen. Why? Because the channel was showing a hacked up TV edit of the 82 theatrical cut.

2.IT'S HEDLEY!

3.To the best of my knowledge the Lowry prints typically use the original track for the theatrical showings. (At least that's from my experience.) I don't exactly recall if they had the MGM logo, but I know they would have to have the new UA logo.

If it had the old one it would either be a slipup or an original. If it looked pristine, very clear, and somewhat bluish then it's the Lowry. Wait-the easiest way to tell comes just as the credits end. A black screen appears with the project operators from Lowry.

Thunderball was the first to be shot in 2.35, before that Bonds were 1.66. Afterwords they were all scope except LALD and TMWTGG which are 1.85. I've never heard of there being a 70mm print of Thunderball.

Goldeneye looks fantastic on the UE, and the colors finally look right. But of course it's improperly framed. (Although the tighter framing really makes some shots more intense...)

The Bonds have always had a history of being different on each and every home video release. We Bondians have to be careful with each successive new restoration. The Lowry process has added much clarity, but at the expense of some of the vibrancy and life. Not to mention the colors. It just doesn't feel the same at all.

Bring on the versions! I'll look at any version of Bond. I even still have my well worn tapes. It's nice to find some people who are also nit picky about how 007 is presented. I've watched these films so often that I know the dialogue by heart and the slightest change is like a bombshell.

My obsession may explain why Bond is the subject of my thesis ;)

Any chance of looking at YOLT after this? It definitely needs it's color back. the UE looks like everything was just desaturated-maybe its just a matter of bringing that back up.

Right there with you-I own 4. And after seeing the new 35mm print and not being at all satisfied I knew even the blu would stink.

Just out of curiosity (and to satisfy my inner Bond completest) what are the differences between each of the LD releases? The 95 deluxe set is where they tried to restore the Technicolor look right?

Wonder if the last LD of Thunderball is worth tracking down. I think they just ported that over for the SE disc.
