It’s def. a full scale suit in that photo. But it’s not a screen used Vader suit. It might have some screen used bits here and there, but over all it looks like one of the 90’s promotional suits used for tours and such. And yes, it’s almost assuredly on a mannequin in that photo.
Whoa, people don’t love Capaldi? I’ll concur that the writing for his seasons could be uneven (though there are still plenty of great episodes). But as for Capaldi himself? He’s very near to trumping Tennant as my favorite actor to play the Doctor!

The Heights has a number of Halloween favorites this season too (as well as listings for their Christmas shows). Looks like more DCP’s than film this year (though they still have several 35mm shows). Also, the Found-Footage Festival is great fun. Went to a few of those the years I lived up there and they never disappointed. Always hilarious.

Many were during the very fortunate few years when I lived in Minnesota and could visit The Heights theater in Columbia Heights north of Minneapolis. It’s a beautifully restored single screen theater built in 1926 (with chandeliers and a working Wurlitzer organ that they often open shows with) that plays TONS of classic movies, in 35mm if at all possible. I’ve also been fortunate enough to have access to a few Alamo Drafthouses over the years that show lots of classics.

Digging through my collection of old horror and sci-fi films while we started planning our Halloween themed viewing, I remembered another for the list:
It Came from Outer Space - 35mm in 3-D at the Trylon micro theater in Minneapolis.
Am I missing something?
Yeah, Vader is lying to the Emperor. The film never explicitly states when Vader figures out who Luke is, but it’s obvious he’s well aware before the Emperor tells him.
I mean, it makes sense in light of the whole “join me and we can overthrow the emperor” speech at the end… Vader is plotting against the Emperor throughout the film.

And he doesn’t really care about the Death Star. He expressed his disdain for it in ANH and in ESB he is on a dogged, single-minded mission to find Skywalker. Decimating the rebels is just a byproduct. It’s quite clear that Vader’s one and only goal throughout ESB is finding and capturing (and turning) Luke. And he’ll do anything (wipe out the rebel army, fly the entire imperial fleet through an asteroid field, lie to his master, take over a mining colony, etc.) to accomplish that one goal.
It took around nine months (I think?), but I finally finished my bandai Stormtrooper model. The engineering on this guy is amazing. The aticulation is some of the best I’ve ever seen on a 6 inch action figure. The build was very easy thanks to the high quality of the kit, but painting him took forever. He was molded in an appropriately glossy white but it was too cool/blueish for my taste and still had a very toy-like plastic look, so I painted the whole thing by hand. And painting this much gloss white acrylic with brushes turned out to be much more challenging than I imagined. But I finally finished him yesterday! I used a lot of reference photos and screenshots to try and replicate the actual wear and tear seen on screen in SW’77. I’m very pleased with how he came out. I wish I had a better camera than my phone and iPad though.

Thinking of it as the Falcon’s theme kinda helps lessen the “cheap shot” feel… I like that.
And video games don’t count. It’s a totally different medium and people (myself included) would be pissed if they didnt re-use the best and most exciting musical cues during the game…
Turning the marauders into rebels was a bit cheesy, or maybe just lazy writing.
I thought that too on my first viewing (in cinema). On my second viewing (at home on BD) I didn’t mind it. Not yet sure if my opinion actually changed or if having a few months for the film to sink in just desensitized me to the idea.
After all, I wasn’t completely yanked out of the film and repulsed when you-know-who showed up this time either. I still think it’s a horrendously stupid cameo and I hate the very idea of it, but it didn’t totally destroy my overall viewing experience like it did the first time…
I forgot to mention in my list above that Gentlemen Prefer Blondes was an authentic 35mm technicolor IB print. It was GORGEOUS!
To be fair, almost the entire musical cue that accompanies that scene in Solo is a rehash of previously existing material.
I don’t mind it much, because (1) Powell’s complete score has more than enough new themes/motifs to compensate, and (2) the music fits the scene well.
Yeah, like I said, it works. I think what really made it stand out is that TLJ had also just used that same music, ALSO for an exciting Millennium Falcon action scene (when Chewie flies through the red crystal cave), only six months earlier. Just feels a little too samey.
I just realized that both The Last Jedi and Solo use the same music from the original TIE Fighter attack on the Falcon scene in ANH during exciting scenes of the Falcon flying. I realize this is not the first time that music has been reused (Im quite sure it plays at some point during the space battle in ROTJ), but it still kinda feels like a cheat.
I mean, I’ll be the first to admit that it totally works for me. I don’t think it’s possible for me to not get a spike of adrenaline when that music cues up. But I can’t help but feel like it’s a bit of a cheap move playing on my nostalgia when we know that Williams and Powell are both capable of writing new material that elicits similar feelings (just listen to the music that plays during the Falcon’s escape from Jakku during TFA).

Through the Walmart app on my android phone, I can scan the receipt barcode and any movie I buy will be loaded in Vudu automatically. I haven’t tried it with a new release BR. That may be why the Walmart exclusive doesn’t have a separate code. Might be worth a try.
For The Last Jedi, the only place I could find the BR+DVD+Digital was from the Disney movie club. So I got Solo there as well.
I tried that. No luck.
I sold a bunch of things from my collection over the past year to fund this guy. Hot Toys 1/6 “The Empire Strikes Back” Darth Vader. He does not disappoint! Wish my pictures were as good as some of the other guys on the collector forums, but even with my crappy photos I think you can an idea how awesome he is.
I don’t know if they have the version with the digital code. My wife picked it up while she was getting some other things, but she did say she looked and didn’t see any that said digital copy on them.
I did look up and go through the process of scanning my receipt on the Walmart app to see if I can get a digital copy that way, but apparently ther has to be some sticker on the package denoting “watch instantly” for that so work. And this doesn’t have that sticker that I can see.
I’m not gonna sweat it. After having technical issues with the Jurassic world Fallen kingdom disc, I’ve wound up with two extra digital codes for that film that i was gonna toss on eBay. Maybe I’ll use the proceeds to snag a digital copy of Solo. But probably not. I’ll probably just call Vudu customer service and see if they’ll set it straight. If not, live and learn I guess.
At any rate, I watched the film last night for the first time since my one theatrical viewing. I really enjoyed it. The things that bugged me were more palatable (or just less distracting, since they didn’t totally blindside me) and the rest is actually quite good. It starts a little slow, but once we make it to Chewie, the film picks up and never slows down.
I don’t think they could’ve done a better job recasting Han and Lando (and Chewie for that matter! Even if this is his third film now). Han does a GREAT job capturing the character without being a charicature. Lando does occasionally slip into a Billy Dee Williams impersonation when delivering some of his lines. But it’s such a good impersonation that I kinda like it. And it’s just small bits, not his whole performance, so it avoids feeling like a cheap knockoff.
The train heist and Kessel run are both tremendous sequences that are tons of fun. And Enfys Nest is super cool. We totally need more of her on the silver screen.
The film does have too many “wink wink, nudge nudge” fanservice references in it, but this time they just kinda rolled over me instead of knocking me out of the immersion each time. And Darth Maul is still beyond stupid, but I can live with it I suppose.
Ultimately, when it was over, all I could think is I hope we get to see more young Han and Lando adventures with these actors. I think that’s a pretty good review.
And I have to say, Chewbacca is still the best part of this movie! Every moment he’s on screen is flipping fantastic. I would go see a solo (no pun intended… maybe…) Chewie movie yesterday!!
The code doesn’t work on Vudu or Moviesanywhere. The packaging just says “blu-ray” at the top, not “blu-ray + dvd + digital” or “blu-ray + digital” like they usually do. And it seems that’s all it is. There’s no dvd copy in the box and seemingly no digital copy either. Kinda lame, but I guess I should’ve paid more attention. I don’t use digital copies as my primary means anyway (there’s a reason I still buy discs…) but I do travel a lot for work, so having a digital library is a nice bonus.
Googling some more, it seems I got the Walmart exclusive version. But I’ve not yet found any info about what’s exclusive about it. But yeah, it doesn’t seem to come with a digital copy b/Catherine regular BD (with the same cover art) has “blu-ray + digital” across the top of the package.
I’m still gonna pursue the Vudu/Walmart connection b/c I know they used to advertise that any disc you bought at Wally World came with a Vudu copy too.

Found my answer in the Blu-ray.com forums. I got ripped off. The Walmart exclusive is the regular BD, but without a digital or dvd copy. And yet it COSTS THE SAME. I feel like such a sucker.
Oh well, digital copies aren’t that important to me. But it sucks to get less for the same price.
I got my copy in the US at Walmart and just noticed it doesn’t come with a digital download code?! WTF?! It has a little slip inside with a code on it that looks just like every other digital copy code paper that’s come in every other blu ray I’ve bought the last 3 or 4 years but the code isn’t for a digital copy. It’s for some stupid “disney movie rewards” program. Very unhappy about that.
But, since Walmart owns Vudu (which is where I sync all my digital copies to), doesn’t Walmart always guarantee you get the digital version on Vudu if you buy the disc from them? Anyone have any idea on how to go about that when there’s no code to redeem?
Or did Disney put the kibosh on that too? Googling this right before I posted turned up some articles about Disney trying to stop redbox (and others) from selling the digital copies included with discs…

I may have to look into the trade paperbacks of the Darth Vader series. I got like two issues into it when I just quit comics altogether. I was getting kinda burned out on the ho-hum marvel Star Wars stuff. I was reading the main series and the first Darth Vader series they did. Finances were tight and it kinda felt exhorbitant spending about $4 per issue. Plus my comic shop is nearly an hour from my house so I’d often let my pull-list build up for 3 or 4 months before I’d go pick it up. Several times doing that, though, they’d have missed an issue here or there and tracking it down after the fact was a real pain (not to mention often more expensive since I’d usually have to order it online and pay shipping). Anyway, it all just built up into me choosing to stop bothering with comics for a while.
And the new Vader series started right after ROTS and was full of prequel junk and “bleeding crystals” and all sorts of stuff that really tempered any interest I would’ve had.
But I’ve heard quite a few good things about it since then. It’s way too late to try grabbing single issues to catch up, and I kinda prefer tpb’s anyway. I dunno though, I’ve been really interested in checking out the Dark Horse X-Wing series ever since Rogue One came out so Vader May continue to wait.
Falcon 2.0 looks like the Waverider.
Definitely not an improvement imo. But then the Falcon is pretty perfect as is, so I don’t imagine there are too many redesign ideas I’d find appealing.
Ive actually been reading Darths and Droids http://darthsanddroids.net recently. I’m in episode 3 at the moment. So funny! I remember discovering it when they were still working their way thru episode 2 but then I just stopped following it. Now I see they have completed the PT, the OT, and are almost through Rogue One.
Auralnauts is my perferred way of watching the prequels, if I’m going to watch them.
I’m unfamiliar with Bad Lip Reading except for that hilarious song with Yoda about a log. Guess I need to investigate more of that…
