I will point out, and it’s one thing he doesn’t address in the space battle video… I do hate how, in TLJ slow speed chase, they made the First Order turbo laser fire arc through space like it’s a WW2 battleship lobbing shells across the ocean. It just feels wrong in space.

Totally agree with you, Rodney. I absolutely love Rogue One for all the reasons you mention. Baze and Chirrut are awesome characters; easily my favorite characters from the new era of films. Easily. I’d almost rather have a B&C show than a Cassian show, but I’m still totally pumped about the show we are getting. I’ve like his character more each time I’ve rewatched R1 and the premise of the show sounds really cool.
There’ve been more Darth Vader collectibles than I think almost anyone could keep up with at this point. From small 3.75 inch figures to life size statues and quite literally everything in between. Screen accuracy is a never-ending debate and is ultimately in the eye of the beholder. A major factor that affects accuracy is the fact that the costume itself changed between films (and even within each film the costume can be different scene to scene and sometimes even shot to shot). But there are some very accurate figures and collectibles out there. For action figures, Hot Toys makes some of the best. They have produced at least four different 1/6 (about 12 inch scale) figures and have a 1/4 (about 18 inch scale) up for preorder. For 1/12 (six inch scale) figures, Hasbro made an awesome ANH Vader for the 40th anniversary and Mafex (a Japanese company) made a really nice figure for Rogue One.

Well, whatever point it was, at some point they brightened it up and screwed up the shadowy, high contrast, moody look of the film. I mean, look at the hallway shot of Han and Leia. The top is the bluray, the bottom is the grindhouse dreammastered. I’m not talking about the color grading. Look how bright and evenly lit the scene is on the bluray vs how dark and shadowy it is on the grindhouse. And all of echo base is like that. In the original film sources it actually looks like a poorly lit cave (which is what it’s supposed to be). On the bluray it’s a bright and cheery ice palace with no shadows.
Oh, I think the contrast and brightness of ESB was totally ruined in many shots on the official Blu-rays… just look at how moody and atmospheric (and awesome) the lighting is in echo base in any film-based preservation and compare it to the blu rays. There’s a HUGE difference and the incredible lighting is almost destroyed in many shots.

So I’m going to be buying a new laptop soon (like, sometime in January most likely). My current machine is well over a decade old and is on its last legs. Having not shopped for a laptop in so long, I’m at a loss as to what I should get, or how I should even shop for one (it seems shopping in person at a brick and mortar store severely limits your choices…).
I thought I’d list some of the tasks I want to use the machine for and some features I’ve seen that peak my interest and maybe those more knowledgeable here could steer me in the right direction.
Anyway, I’d like to use the machine to keep up with the various restoration and preservation efforts here and other related sites. I’m particularly interested in film sourced projects and 4K projects. In addition to acquiring and viewing them myself, I’d like to be able to participate more in the beta testing, spot checking crowdsourced type of help they sometimes enlist to complete the projects.
I’d also like to be able to burn data and video blu-ray discs (I know I’ll have to buy an external drive)
I’d like to use it for managing our digital (I.e. smartphone) photo and video library. We’ve got little kids and take a million photos and videos.
I’m interested in possibly using it for gaming. I’m not a serious gamer but I do still play my PS4 and I absolutely LOVE flight sims. In fact, combat flight sims would be my top priority for gaming if I were to play games on it.
I’d like to finally figure out how to do the whole Usenet newsgroup thing (specifically the Star Wars one).
Oh, I also want to stream video, watch blu rays and my digital film library.
So that’s what I want to use the machine for. As for features, I’m interested in the following:
-Minimum 1080p display, though I’m interested possibly in 4K.
-I like the laptops that have a touchscreen and can fold over to be used like a tablet,but it’s not absolutely required. Just a nice feature.
-plenty of storage space. Combo of Solid state and traditional HDD would be ideal)
-Windows, most current version (sorry mac users)
-15.6 inch screen. I travel a LOT and I find this to be the ideal compromise between portability and screen size. I might consider going a little bigger, but definitely not smaller.
-price… I’m not entirely decided on this but I’m thinking I’d probably like to keep it at $1000 or less. Right now I’m more interested in figuring out what I should be looking for and then figuring out exactly wha5 price range I should move towards.

No. We do have the first reel of his German print, and we will be using that but the rest of it will be the new 4K scan of our Fuji print, this new 16mm print, and the various prints that made up the Grindhouse version will fill in any damaged or missing frames.
Cool, thanks for the info. So what are the details (what kind of print, where’d it come from, etc., etc.) of this 35mm Fuji print? Oh, and how are it’s colors?

Watch the starfield in the tilt-down to the star destroyer after the crawl finishes in ESB. There’s stars of multiple colors (including a rather prominent red one), as well as at least one (blue) planet.

Oh man, this is the one I’ve been waiting for! ALL of the projects (and especially the 4K projects) are absolutely invaluable to our cultural history [plus I just really really love having access to high quality copies of the original films 😉 ]. But Empire, as poita has mentioned before, was in the greatest danger of being lost forever and I am so incredibly happy to see this happening before it’s too late! Thank you guys!

That’s amazing, I’ve always wondered how people do that kind of detailed pumpkin art. And they used one of the X-wing novel covers as the template. I’ve always thought the mid-nineties novel and comic covers were some of the best EU art ever produced!
This should probably go in the technical questions sub forum, but…
CRT in general is a better display technology than LCD. Especilaly cheap LCD. CRT has much better contrast with far deeper, richer blacks. That can actually make even a standard def crt look better than a cheap hd lcd if the screens aren’t too big. But if you’ve got an HD crt, yeah, that will almost certainly look better than a crappy low-end lcd (and it probably looks better than a lot of higher end LCD too).
Bottom line, the quality (and calibration) of your display absolutely has a dramatic effect on your viewing experience. And the larger the screen is, it becomes even more important to get a quality display because all the problems become more obvious.
Oh, but I seriously doubt many people would ever thing Vhs looks better than blu ray, even in your example. The resolution is just too drastic.
I need a new laptop just to acquire and manage the files. My current ancient POS can’t handle them (and I can’t do things like use Resilio or other programs that would be much more convenient than begging someone to set up a special link just for me). It can barely handle downloading the 1080p files (and you can forget about actually playing them on it!)
Plus I need a new laptop for other things too. Just been waiting a very long time for a raise that is finally in the works.
Ugh. I HAVE to get a new laptop. Mine is well over a decade old. I still haven’t even been able to watch 4K77 properly yet and was only able to download it thanks to the very generous efforts of a member on the starwarstrilogy forums.

What’s TIL?
It’s because if they hold it in that pose, but right handed, the gun’s magazine bangs up against the chest armor and scratches it to heck. Mocata is right, troopers throughout the trilogy are left handed. And it’s specifically for that one reason.
We try to rotate different films in and out every year, but we tend to stick to classics since neither my wife nor I particularly enjoy anything too gory, gruesome, or truly frightening.
This year so far we’ve watched The Monolith Monsters, Bride of Frankenstein, Creature from the Black Lagoon, and the MST3K version of Horrors of Spider Island. Tonight we’re headed to the local Alamo Drafthouse to watch Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman on the big screen! Very excited for that, it’ll be the first classic universal horror I’ve seen in the theater, AND it’s my first time seeing that particular film!
For what it’s worth, when Poe and Finn steal the TIE Fighter in TFA you can see the arms that were cradling it on either side of the cockpit retract as it lifts off.
That still doesn’t explain the scene on Starkiller base when Hux is giving the speech before they fire at the Republic. But they aren’t sitting on their solar panels in the Star Destroyer hangar.
