Fix the lightsabers (Poster participation)
Time
quite frankly, i think the top pic from ESB is perfect. That's how lightsabers should look. flickering & humming with powerful energy. I think the newer sabers (such as the prequels) look too perfect & cookie cutter. they dont look as real. I would like to see all sabers look like they do in the closeups from OOT ESB (where the blades look fairly skinny). There shouldn't be a perfcetly defined white core surrounded by a perfectly defined colored corona. It doesn't look natural. Oh, & the tip should not come to such a defined point as it did in ROTS. Remember, this is flowing energy.

& yet Master Replicas themsleves put on a duel with two of their sabers in a demonstration at Celebration 3.....

My ANH vader saber wiggles a bit where the blade attaches to the hilt. (it's most noticable if you shake it or jiggle it fairly roughly). I've never dueled with it, though i have smacked it against people & stuff (c'mon.... they put a "clash" sound effect specifically when it strikes things....) but i've never hit it very hard on anything. Just hard enough to make the sound. It seems like this "play" was probably there from the get go. Built in so that it has a little bit of give b/c they know you're going to hit them on stuff.... but i can't confirm that for sure...

a page with info on all 3 films' sabers (with pics, the links at the bottom take you to a page on each saber):
http://www.partsofsw.com/darth.htm

Here's links to photo galleries of MR's replicas of the ANH & ESB versions respectively:
ANH: http://www.rebelscum.com/mrvaderanhsigsaber.asp
ESB: http://www.rebelscum.com/mrvaderesbsaber.asp

Though they're replicas, they are VERY accurate & you can see much better detail to see the differences since the quality of pics is much better.

I have the master replicas ANH vader force FX saber & it does indeed extend out & return into the handle. (the light does, not the actual tube) plus it is almost identical to the screen version (save for the speaker holes in the bottom, but even those are molded to blend in so they're hardly noticable). It is absolutely incredible! easily the closest thing to a real saber. & i got it at a retail outlet (Borders bookstore) for $99. Much better than $160.... Oh, & incase you didn't know, the sabers on that site ARE the Master Replicas ones. MR has made quite a few different versions, but each one has only been produced for a brief period. The Luke ROTJ saber is one of the hardest to find. & from what i understand, the ANH Vader saber has been discontinued, but they now offer the ESB Vader saber & will soon offer a ROTS Vader saber.

Discussion: Episode III toy Lightsabers
Time
I have the Vader ANH force FX & it is AWESOME. in low light, or at night, it looks like the real thing. (shining bright lights directly on it, or being in direct sunlight kinda cancels out the light it emits). & the hilt looks perfect. It really is as close to having a real lightsaber as you can get. & you should be able to find them for $99 in many places (i got mine at Borders bookstore). They are FAR superior to anything by hasbro. & as for buying graflex on ebay... i'd stay away form that. The prices those things go for on ebay are rediculous. I talked to a guy at a camera store onetime who said those flash cells in reality are only worth $20 at most. Its the willingness of STAR WARS fans to pay exhorbitant amounts that has driven the prices for them so high.

Info Wanted: LD FAQ - especially re the Faces & Definitive Collection LDs
Time
Thanks. What are the problems with the Definitive Collection? I know of the Leia welding mishap, but my copy must be a later one, b/c it has the scene intact. What are other problems? i don't know of anything else. I also must have a slightly older player b/c it certainly won't freeze frame on CLV discs. But even the newer players that will; will they step frame & perform all the slow-mo features, etc. on CLV discs, or do you still need CAV for that? Sorry for all the noob questions, but all the LD stuff is still fairly new to me. I was at least smart enough to read up to know that i wanted CAV format & a double sided player though.

Oh, & i've seen mention of extras on the Faces discs. what are they? i would imagine they might be trailers or that interview with lucas that was on the vhs faces release? certainly nothing as extensive as on the definitive set though?

Info Wanted: LD FAQ - especially re the Faces & Definitive Collection LDs
Time

Well, i searched the boards & didn’t find anything like this, so i thought i’d join the forum & start one.

I’ve noticed in several threads people mention the various laserdisc releases and the pros/cons to each. I personally rushed out & bought a nice LD player & the Definitive Collection LD boxset when i heard about the no OT dvd news. I’ve been very happy with the set (great picture for the most part, awesome bonus features, wonderful full feature CAV format, etc.), but i’ve seen several people comment that the “faces” version is better. Why is this? Please use this thread to discuss the good, the bad, & the ugly of each version of STAR WARS on laser, so those of us who like to have offical releases (even as supplements to fan preservations) can get the best versions out there.
