Ady's already changed that effect. There's an unfinished clip of it in the first post. I can understand if people don't want to read OVER 9000 posts on the topic, but when there's a list of changes and preview clips in the first post, can we PLEASE check that before asking if something is going to be addressed?

I'm not sure if you were referring to Janskeets question about the Ion Cannon,  or mine about inserting Lando into the empty Falcon cockpit, I've recombed the first page and the preview clips and didn't see any mention of that particular scene.

was mace going to the darkside?
Time

Maybe it's just the perception of Samuel Jackson and the characters he's played in the past,  but I always got the feeling that Mace Windoo had a bit of a shady past and had perhaps dabbled in the darker side of the force and returned to the light,  a bit like a reformed alcoholic or a born-again christian,  he knows the power and danger of the dark-side and will stop at nothing to destroy it,  he know he needs to destroy Palpatine or die trying.

I'm not sure if this has been addressed before and I didn't see it mentioned in Ady's big list of changes on page 1,

but at the climax of the film,  where we pan in on the rebel fleet and the Millenium Falcon is docked to the Medical frigate and the camera zooms in on an obviously empty Falcon cockpit with very little interior lighting, and then cuts to a close up shot of Lando sitting in the cockpit with completely different lighting and he's talking to luke on the comlink  "well Luke, we're ready for take off"  then it cuts back to the exterior shot again showing the cockpit empty as the shot pans from the falcon to Medical frigate window.

Would it be possible to insert a plate of Lando sitting in the cockpit making his pre-flight adjustments,  it s always been a very jarring and clumsy transition between the exterior and interior shots,  and really makes the exterior shots look like the models they are.  I'm sure it'd be a complex job to match the camera pan and to make sure the plate of Lando actually look like he was sitting in the cockpit, but compared to everything else we've seen Ady capable of doing ,  I'm sure it could be pulled off convincingly.

I was wondering if my suggestion about lightcasting light sabers in ESB was doable.

Original casting no light.

How it may look like with light sabers casting light.

Thanks.

but does that really ADD anything to the movie? If anything i think it would detract from the mood and the darkness of the movie, apart from touching up of lightsabers blades the Luke vs Vader duel is as close to perfection as the saga gets.

the scream was added to the 97 special editions, and then removed again for the 2004 DVD's , so it has already been fixed.

other suggestions

when Luke enters the 'Dark tree' on Dagobah, if something could be done to 'dress-up' the snakes and lizards so that they look a bit more exotic and otherworldly, and less like regular Earth snakes and lizards, perhaps some exotic colouring? or some other alien appendages?

I'm not sure how it would slot in , but if there was any way of making the Falcon's escape a little more difficult once they hit space after they leave Bespin? perhaps a few more aerial shots of tie's attacking? I know they're concentrating on getting the hyperdrive working , but I always thought it was odd the way they fly directly towards Vader's star-destroyer and do a fly around , especially when the star destroyer was trying to get a lock on them with their tractor beam, or maybe flying so close to the Star Destroyer was a manouver to avoid the tractor beam?

the final sequence in the film, the exterior shot of the Falcon docked at the medical frigate, shows the Falcon cockpit empty and dimly lit, the very next shot is a close up interior of Lando in a much more heavily lit cockpit. is there any way of making a plate of Lando in the cockpit and superimpose him into the cockpit so that he appears in the cockpit of the previous shot of the exterior of the falcon?

good point about the shield generator, although the walkers were able to destroy it fairly quickly, and they had to destroy the shield so Vader and his troops could enter the base.

but surely the Rebel groundforce with their turrent cannons etc were also outside of the protection of the shields?

Anyways.

The idea behind having the DS II at the beginning of ESB was to make its sudden appearance in ROTJ less of a rehash. But ultimately, I don't know how effective this is. It's a little pointless to show it in ESB when it never really plays any role in the movie.

yeah, I think the destruction of the original Death Star would've been an enormous blow to the Empire, to show them bouncing back so quickly and starting construction on a second death star at the beginning of Empire would really negate some of the importance the original Death Star had, as well as take the shine off of the rebels victory in the first film.

I can Imagine Vader apologising to the Emperor for the destrustion of the death-star, only for the Emperor to reply
"don't worry about it! we got plenty more where they came from!"

But i feel that adding anything like that in would ruin the reveal of the AT-AT's when we see them through the macrobinoulars and would just be adding something in to the film that really doesn't need to be there. That's the thing i'm trying to avoid and that's the thing that Lucasfilm did with the SE's.

I think it would be possible to see the Star Destroyers dropping large transports of some kind without ruining the reveal of the AT-ATs. Not saying it should be done, just saying it's possible to show something without showing the main attraction.

That's what I meant, with the dropship comment, just a brief exterior space shot of large-ships carrying the ground forces , exiting from beneath a star destroyer (similiar to the way the Imperial Probe droids are launced at the start of the film) and heading towards the planet below, certainly no need to reveal the AT-AT's inside the ships, just as long as they look big enough to transport a few walkers.

I really like the way your Death star reveal in STARWARS Revisitied gave a real sense of scale to all the dfferent ships, and I think a scene like this could really complement that scene. It doesn't necessarily add anything to the story but it's a nice piece of eye-candy for us geeks to salivate over.

as far as the shields go I'm pretty sure they don't extend far beyond the perimeter of the base itself. I assume the Shield Generator is actually located seperate to the base itself that's why Veers Walker needs to destroy it so Vader and his troops can get inside the base.

You mention Vader being prepped by an advisor before his chat with the Emperor. That was Sate Pestage and it was a deleted scene from the movie. I would really like to se that but even if they filmed it, adywan would probably not have access to it. Its sealed away at Skywalker ranch or something like that.

Anyway, this is the scene I think you're talking about:

286 INT VADER'S STAR DESTROYER - VADER'S CHAMBER 286

Darth Vader stands before a shimmering holographic
image which slowly comes into focus. The image is
that of SATE PESTAGE, Grand Vizier to His Eminence,
Emperor.

VADER
Sate Pestage, I would see the
Emperor. He commands it.

PESTAGE
I must warn you, Lord Vader,
The Emperor is in a foul mood.
He bids you wait. Have you any
progress to report?

VADER
The rebel base on Hoth has been
destroyed. I am tracking down
the survivors.

PESTAGE
The Emperor will be with you in
time.

VADER
I wait at his convenience.

I'm glad that scene never made it, it just sounds like the Emperors receptionist is screening his calls, and it really belittles Vader's importance if he's ranked lower than the grand vizier. besides in the movie it is the emperor that requests Vader to make contact.

I can just imagine Vader losing his temper whilst listening to cheesey hold music

I had this idea posted in another thread. Wonder what you guys would think of this.

Please No, It was a cheap device used in ROTS to convey what could have easily been established by dialogue had George Lucas been any good at writing dialogue, Luke perfectly conveys the vision he sees of a city in the clouds and his friends in pain and the very next scene shows the Falcon landing on a 'city in the clouds', the audience really doesn't need to be hit over the head three times in the space of a minute with the message that his friends are heading into danger on Cloud City.

I don't understand why anyone would tamper with the original trilogy to make it better fit the prequals, when it should clearly be the other way round.

you can count me in for all of the titles mentioned, I know the Story of Star Wars lps have been posted on the alt.binaries. starwars newsgroups a few weeks ago but I've given up in frustration trying to figure out how to access newsgroups.

I guess with all the trouble you're going to to capture them using the best quality equipment, you probably intend to keep them in a lossless format, but i'd be eternally greatful if you made them available as high bit-rate mp3's via torrent or rapidshare?

a few more suggestions

After seeing what you were able to achieve in ANH with the new death-star reveal got me thinking how cool it be to perhaps see a brief shot of giant Drop-ships carrying AT-AT's and ground forces deployed from the Star Destroyers and head toward the planet.
I have no idea what such ships would look like, but theres probably some sort of visual reference floating around in the EU, besides it'd give your CG crew a chance to be creative and add a new ship design to the series.

Luke's escape from Hoth always seemed a little too easy to me , how did he manage to avoid running into the Imperial blockade that all the transports had to escape through? or did he wait until the battle was over and the Imperials had packed up and left?
Maybe you could insert some Star Destroyers in the far off background of the shot where Lukes x-wing leaves the planet, so that it looks like he left planet on a different vector to avoid the Imperials. There's also a rebel transport that is taking off at the same time as Luke, so shouldn't it have been his duty to escort the transport past the Imperial ships to safety? especially if he knew an alternate route? maybe the transport and the remaining X-wings could be added into the shot so that it looks like they all got off the planet together and safely?

someone else mentioned that it might be a good idea to see a few more shots of rebel transports getting past the Imperial star destroyers?, perhaps we could see a rebel transport that wasn't lucky enough to get past them getting blown to oblivian, it would heighten the tension especially if it was slotted in and implied that it was the transport that Leia would've been on if she didn't get out on the Falcon, although that probably negates the suggestion I made in the last paragraph.

whatever you can do to make the 'Our first catch of the day' seem less ham-fisted, the line itself is fine, it's just the badly overdubbed delivery that kills it, know any decent voice actors that could make it sound more convincing?

echo someones previous suggestion to add glowing embers to the Wampa's severed arm and the shot of Han cutting open the taun- taun, at the moment it's only really the saddle straps that flame a little when Han cuts the taun-tauns belly open.

some people have also mentioned removing Luke's 'willhelm scream' as he lets himself fall to his doom after the Vader/father revelation, but that was an audio change that only appeared on the 97 Special Edition and was fixed/removed from the 2004 DVD's.
but as Luke is sucked into the exhaust pipe he enters with his head facing up and feet facing down, in the next shot it looks like they have flipped the image upside down and Luke is sliding along the top the tube with his head facing downwards, I'm guessing they flipped the shot so that they could reuse it agan in the same sequence to extend his slide through the exhaust tubes, but it's a jarring transition seeing him suddenly upside down.

I actually like the new Wampa footage, but the biggest problem is that it shows just how badly compromised they were with trying to make the original Wampa suit look believable in the original production. the Wampa's were originally meant to play a much larger part in the Hoth scenes, but you only have to look at the footage in Jambe Davdar's Building Empire to see how much they struggled trying to make the Wampa suit work on film. I don't know why George didn't replace all of the Wampa shots with the new suit when he first made the special editions, as the new Wampa looks nothing like the original (didn't they have any reference photos of the original prop?)

Especially the initial attack on Luke on his Tauntaun, the Wampa's face just looks like a big static Muppet of the abomnible(?) snowman from one of those cheesy 'Frosty the Snowman' Christmas stop motion animation specials , being thrust at the camera, and the colour and lighting don't even come close to matching the footage of Luke that was shot on location, let alone the sense of scale, and then the big static arm on a stick swats him from his Tauntaun and breaks the creatures neck without any sign of articulation.

then theres that horrible shot inside the cave as the Monster is running towards luke which just screams 'Im an average sized guy in a shoddy looking suit running towards camera with my hands obscuring my face so you can't see how shoddy the suit is.'

as for the 'Wampa was scarier when we couldn't see him' argument, as valid as it may be, the truth is we've known for nearly 30 years what the creature looks like, he only has a brief shining moment in the whole saga. Rather than cutting the new footage of a far more convincing looking Beastie why not try and make the original footage look as badass and scary as the film-makers intended and attempted to in the original production?

It may sound ambitious , and i'm not sure how talented Ady's 3d animators are when it comes to character animation, but judging by what they were able to pull off with the new space-battles and ships, it shouldn't be too hard for them to breathe a little more life into the few quick frames in which the creature is shown. I wouldn't normally bring something like this up, but the original Wampa shots have stood out as some of the dodgiest looking effects in the series since I originally saw Empire as a 10 year old in 1980.

somebody mentioned putting 'Duel of the fates' into the Luke/Vader light saber battle at the end, but to be honest I think the light saber battle in Empire is the most gripping and closest to perfect battle that we see in the entire saga, it's a clear cut battle of the minds and a game of cat and mouse rather than the over the top aerobatics of the prequal trilogy, apart from some tweaking of the light sabers and a few effects shots, I think it would be best left pretty much exactly as it appeared in the original.

Personally, it doesn't bother me. After all, if I had a sister as hot as Carrie Fisher... Well, it's just best to avoid such things as they are frowned upon by most societies.

in hindsight it's a bit creepy, but she only kissed him to piss Han off and make him jealous so it works perfectly well in the context of the scene and I think removing it would also take away from Han & Leia's eventual romance as it builds in the rest of the movie, plus I love the 'Laugh it up Fuzzball' line.

In my opinion, I don't think you should remove the new Boba Fett voice, it works very well. As well is keep continuity with the prequels, something I know you want. I don't think it should be removed just to remove it. It could be argued that if you were going to keep the old voice for Boba you should keep the old voice of The emperor.

I've never been a big fan of the Fett , but I think it actually detracts from Boba's character to give him the voice of Jango fett, Boba may be a clone of Jango but he wasn't a typical assembly line clone and was given his own free will. He was orphaned at such a young age and had to make his own way in the galaxy and it certainly doesn't take long for a displaced child to lose an accent and adapt to his surroundings. I think retaining the original voice and delivery gives him back some the mystery he lost when episode 2 showed him as a young surly kiwi lad, maybe it's cos i'm an Aussie but the Kiwi accent always sounds a bit jarring and goofy and not very threatening at all.

unless Ady can come up with an interesting overlay of both actors voices and put it through a few vocal effects and create something unique for Boba ?

I like what you're doing with the Emperor hologram, it really looks more like the ROTJ emperor as we know him. Am I alone in thinking that the Emperor's appearance in Empire should retain some of the mystery it had in context of the original trilogy ? I wish they hadn't gone so drastic with his transformation in the prequals, and we could have seen how the dark side had consumed him and ravaged his appearance in the twenty odd years between ROTS and his final reveal in ROTJ. It's a pity that George didn't give his audience enough credit to bridge the gap and make the connection, even with the dialogue he felt the need to make the 'son of Skywalker' as obvious as he possibly could. I hope Adywan is cutting Mcdiarmind's Empire lines back to how they were in the original theatrical cut?

I think his biggest problem was his stilted delivery and the way he put the wrong emphasis on his words, it just sounded like he we reading an autocue of very corny dialogue.
maybe a combination of lower pitch and some intricate editing of some of his pauses etc to smooth out his dialogue and make it seem a little more natural/ ,although at the same time there are certain lines and his Yippees! that need to be cut completely.

it's funny what your memory takes for granted as gospel, as I remember and always believed that that line was in the film.
it's definately appeared in some version of the story even if it didn't end up in the final version of the film, I just checked the Radio drama thinking it may have been a false memory implanted by that, but alas it wasn't. I haven't had a copy of 'The story of Empire Strikes Back' since my casette was chewed up years ago, but I'm wondering if it appeared on that?

perhaps 'disintergrations' was Boba's handy little excuse whenever he couldn't catch his bounty 'dead' or 'alive'?

a bit like the classic Q: 'Where's your Homework?' A: Oh....um....er....the dog ate it!'

but seriously, I think the main aim of an fan-edit of the classic trilogy should be to try and undo any of the damage George has done on his subsequent revisions, so I'm all for seeing Sebastian Shaw back as jedi spirit, and not a weird morph of Hayden and Shaw.

Or perhaps remove Anakin completely from the scene, as according to ROTS Anakin shouldn't have learnt how to become 'one' with the force anyway, unless Qui Gon appeared to Darth Vader before he died and taught him how. (now that really would be an interesting scene!)
