This Says It All
Time
it'd be interesting to take a poll as to who amongst us will actually be buying the September DVD release of the trilogy, I know there has been a lot of talk about people boycotting the new set, and while I think it's to be commended, I'm just sceptical of how large a scale of a boycott it would take to actually make a noticable dent in sales of the OT set.

I think despite the special addition(s) changes made, there is no way that sales for this new set won't go through the roof, I don't think the people at Fox or Lucasfilm will really notice how many UNITs they AREN't selling because of fans opposed to the changes, Whereas they may take more notice of a 60,000+ petition signed by fans who are willing to shell out for a set of Original theatrical Versions.

If Fox were able to pressure Lucasfim into doing pan&scan versions of the films because of sales, I don't understand why they can't lobby George into releasing the originals, I'd be happy to buy both sets.

yeah , I heard about the petition too, perhaps i should've signed it, it would have been a lot more interesting seeing the STARWARS kid going nuts with a lightsaber, than members of N-sync. although i did hear that he suffered a lot of emotional problems after the video became so popular, sometimes an ipod just doesn't cut it.

Star Wars Trilogy changes

I find it hard to believe that with the dramatic improvements they've been able to make in the restoration of this new print, that Lucasfilm aren't secretly doing the same restoration job on the Original theatrical print, even if it's only being done to preserve the film for "archival purposes" after all it was one of the main reasons for doing the original special editions.

After seeing what they've been able to achieve in terms of picture quality, I guess I'll just have to close my eyes when greedo shoot's first and use the 'Jedi rocks" scene as a chance for a toilet break, and turn Jedi off just before the end celebrations begin.

Why didn't Anakin fade away when he died?
Time
both Obi Wan and Yoda were both well aware that that they were about to die, that may explain how they were able to surrender their crude flesh and become luminous beings at the point of their Deaths, I think they did this so that they could attach themselves to Luke and act as spirit guides to Luke, remember Obi-Wans line in A New Hope where he say's "if you strike me down, I will become more powerful than you can possibly imagine." then he looks towards Luke raises his sword and surrenders his life,

I always believed that he disappeared before Vaders sabre made contact, therefore robbing Vader of the satisfaction in killing his former master. I remember once hearing something about ancient Tibetan monks (or possibly Shogun) having the ability to will themselves into cardiac arrest just before their enemy's delivered the fatal blow.

In ROTJ just after Yoda's death, obi-wan tells Luke that Yoda will always be with him, perhaps because Luke was the last of the Jedi, Obi wan and Yoda were able to join their spirits, knowledge and powers to Luke, whereas the other Jedi Qui-gonn and Vader , not to mention all the jedi killed in the battle of Geonosis simply died without the benefit of foresight. given Vader's dark past the last thing he would want to do would be to risk passing any of those traits on to Luke.

Palpatine being Vaders father? I really hope George doesn't go there, it's just too cheesey for words, although I wouldn't put it past him.

Does this mean he'd have to alter Return of the Jedi yet again, just imagine Vader saying to Luke "I am your father!" and then the Emperor adding "and I'm your Grandfather!.... now quickly , Kill your father (i.e. my son) and take your rightful place by your Gran-daddy's side!

Does this also mean that in 20 years time we'll get to see Palpatine as a young boy, romancing a young Schmi, going into politics and turning Evil in the Prequal-Prequal Trilogy , please say it ain't so!!!!!

and maybe we find out that Palpatine built R2-D2?

surely there are skinhead and redneck forum's out there that would welcome you Jimbo and your ignorant hateful tirades, with open arms, A STAR WARS forum isn't the place for this bullshit.

while I've haven't agreed with many of your comments posted in other Star Wars related threads in this Forum, I have respected your right to express your opinion, and I think on the most part you have triggered some healthy debate within the forum, but dude, you totally lost any credibility you might have had when you began spewing the redneck crap in this thread.

Yeah, and an empty head !

As a Gay Man, who also happens to be a Star Wars fan, I never thought I'd be defending my sexuality on a Star Wars forum, can I suggest that this thread be nuked and we all get back to the reason why we are, and that is to discuss and debate our common love of all things STAR WARS!

POST YOUR HATRED ELSEWHERE!!!!

Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (official)
Time
As much as I wish we'd get a chance to buy the official original theatrical versions of the trilogy , I'll go out and buy the new DVD set the day it comes out, and I'm actually generally interested in seeing what changes have been made to it, no doubt I'll probably dislike more of the alterations than I'll end up liking, but I'm curious to see the movies from a fresh perspective, the same way i was in 97 with the first round of special editions, but no matter how many times George remixes the movies, nothing will ever take the place of the original versions of those movies, they will live on forever as the Definitive versions in my memory and on VHS and (thanks to Rikter!!) my DVD's,

and to be honest, even though I've contributed my share of money over the years to George and his Empire, If both sets were released at the same time on DVD, I would probably end up buying them both. To preserve my original memories, and the second set to satisfy my appetite to see something new in the Star Wars universe.

Changes in 2004 DVDs
Time
I was hoping they'd redo the Dianoga shot the first time around, it wasn't so much the look of the creature that worried me, but the fact that the scene just didn't seem to fit in with the rest of the trash compactor scene,

there was something about the way that the original shot was lit and the background that made it look like a bit of old 'stock' footage from a 60's monster movie inserted into the scene, it just looked like it was done quickly and added to the scene much later in the film-making process.

and judging by the shot it does look like they've toned some of the background colours down so that it fits better with the rest of the footage in the scene. although I'd really like to see a clip of the scene to get the full effect. not sold on the cat's eye though.

what about Divorce? doesn't that undermine the sanctity of marriage? wanna ban that?
where do you think all the homosexuals came from other than a Heterosexual environment?

Jimbo , you may as well turn gay, it doesn't look like you'll ever get a girlfriend this century.

and what the hell does this have to do with Mark Hamill in Ireland anyway, did Luke turn to the Pink side of the force while i wasn't looking?

I THINK I FIGURED IT OUT - WHY SO MANY SW FANS DISLIKED THE PT...
Time
I wasn't for a moment suggesting they weren't the same person (or at least a clone of the same person) . I'm just speculating on how Palpatine may have been able to hide his powers from the Jedi for so long, and how he has been able to train two sith apprentices on Coruscant whilst holding on to a very public position in office, and how has managed to keep his true identity hidden from Count Dooku his own apprentice? ,and I think there may be a little more to Darth Sidious' identity than just Palpatine in a dark hood.

and considering we are yet to have any groundbreaking surprises revealed in the trilogy, this may be it, It's not uncommon for a character to use a decoy in this trilogy Padme/Amidala has been using her handmaidens as decoys on many occasions

good point, and just when i thought i might have worked it out DOH!

it would of course depend on how far back he dissapeared, and who was still on the Jedi council from back then, it might explain why Yoda is so distrustful of Palpatine, perhaps Sifo Dias was a lot older than his clone and more resembled the Emperor as he appears in ROTJ?

I guess we won't know until next May, but I still think I'm on the right track,

As there hasn't been any major revelations in this new trilogy to match the magnitude of Vader being Luke as well as Leia's father , I'm beginning to think that Darth Sidious's Identity may turn out to be a big surpise to everyone, the sidious/palpatine connection might just be a little too obvious to be true.

4 the Jedi can't realise the Senator Palpatine is Darth Sidious. In ANH when Darth Vader was chasing Luke in his fighter he realizes that "the force is strong with this one". You're going to tell me that the whole Jedi councel while standing next to Senator Palpatine can't realize that the dark side of the force is strong with him. come on!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've been thinking about this one, and I've come up with a bit of a theory,
What if in fact Palpatine was actually a clone of Darth Sidious (created without force powers, to be the 'public face') of Darth Sidious, that way Palpatine assisted by Sidious could rise in power in the senate without being detected by the jedi,

this could lead credence to the connection between the link between Sifo Diyas and Darth Sidious (the names being so similar as to also be an anagram of themselves .

In AOTC it is known that (according to the Caminoan's ) Jedi Master Sifo Dias ordered the creation of a clone army 10 years beforehand (probably based on the disastrous performance by the battle droids in the battle of Naboo) which coincidentally happened around the same time. so we've established a link between Sifo Dias having contact with the Caminoan's and their cloning technology.

secondly when Obi Wan is relaying this information to Yoda in AOTC, although the details are sketchy
Obi wan seems to vaguely remember that Master Sifo Dias was killed earlier than the Caminoans claim, obviously before Obi-wans time.

Now what if this Jedi Master Sifo Dias was once a high ranked member of the Jedi Council about ten or more years before The Phantom Menace, and in a similar way that Anakin Skywalker died and became Vader, Sifo Dias (believed dead) turned to the darkside , ( one of the 'Lost Twenty Jedi' referred to in some cut scenes involving the Jedi Librarian and Obi Wan from AOTC, this way Sifo Dias could have easily removed all record of Camino's Existance from the Jedi Archives.

so Sifo Dias/Darth Sidious gets a clone of himself (Palpatine) and after a bit of rapid growth acceleration Palpatine is somehow placed on the start of his political career, with Darth Sidious (and his apprentice Dath Maul) manipulating events in the background to accelerate Palpatines Rise to power. Palpatine becomes supreme chancellor at the end of TPM.

Happy with the work of his clone, Darth Sidious/ Sifo Dias orders the caminoans to create an army of clones knowing that the first 200,000 soldiers will take ten years to be ready, another million troops ready for battle five years later,

At the same time he manages to lure a disenchanted Count Dooku away from the Jedi order and over to the dark side as his new apprentice, he keeps Dooku in the dark about Palpatines true identity and the existense of the clone armies, and orders Dooku to take charge of the separatist's forces and raise an army to threaten the public, and the clone wars begin!!

now at some stage of the Clone wars the tide is gonna change against the Jedi and the clones will be forced to turn against their Jedi counterparts, so what if the second larger batch of 1 million clones are
programmed to fight against the jedi and the original wave of clones (thus giving us true Clone wars!)
In the confusion that follows the Seperatists reach a treaty with the republic forces (thanks to Palpatine) and the Jedi become the enemy and are hunted to extinction, and Darth Sidious does the old Switcheroo with Palpatine his clone, and becomes the Emperor.

it's just a theory and probably proves I have way too much spare time on my hands. but Hey, it made sense to me at the time!

Compare Michael Jackson's face in the early eighties, to the unrecognizable hideous freak he is today,
Now compare the original Star Wars trilogy from the 70-80's to the special special editions 20-something years down the track!
SPOOKY!!!!! I'm sure Michael thought he was making improvements at the time too!

Episodes 7,8,9?
Time
I think George Lucas ran out of good Ideas and inspiration about 20 years ago, and I think that once the current trilogy has finished most fans will probably be glad to see the franchise laid to rest, I think it's far more likely that we'll get regular updated 'remixes' of the original movies than an episode 7-8-9, it seems strange that the original plan was to be the Adventures of Luke Skywalker then over the years it switched to the fall and rise of Anakin Skywalker, personally I'd be more interested in finding out what hapeened in the time between episode 3 and 4 than any of the events post ROTJ, I'm not sure I really want to see Luke Skywalker, Leia and han zipping around in Dependz undergarments and zimmer-frames.

as far as I'm concerned the Terminator films are a group effort, without James Cameron , Linda Hamilton and Eddie Furlong they really shouldn't have bothered, especially given the lame way they killed off Sarah Connor (dying of cancer before the film) and the ridiculous female terminator.
the same recycled gags from the second film, Arnie just looked like he was along for the ride. And given the huge budget for the film it had a really cheap B-movie look to it.
