Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Redux Ideas thread
Time

So, here’s an idea I have inspired by some concept art for the deleted “Eye of Webbish Bog” scene I saw yesterday.

What if the planet Kylo acquires Vader’s Wayfinder from ISN’T Mustafar? We wouldn’t have to change much for it, save for the initial planet shot at the very beginning. The scene already doesn’t really look like Mustafar and it could just be retconned to being a forest on a planet that’s been burned by the conflict occuring.

I think there could be two ways to approach this retcon (one being more radical than the other):

 • Less Radical: We make the planet some random planet, maybe one that’s Jedi/Sith adjacent (Tython?). We then would retcon the Alazmec colonists as being either scavengers or some Force-related group such as the Church of the Force who happened to find Vader’s wayfinder and were keeping it.

 • More Radical (and this one honestly kind of leans on Hal’s edit although it could be justified for others as well): We make the planet Endor and the colonists could be retconned as being some of Jannah’s rogue Stormtrooper group. From memory, I don’t recall the colonists being too alien looking. I just remember them being sort of bulky armored guys. And as for the justification for why the Wayfinder would be on Endor… Vader was on Endor for a little bit, right? So, maybe the defected group ransacked the Imperial base on the planet after they defected to look for weapons and supplies and happened to find a little souvenir Vader was storing there for the time being?

Obviously, a lot of this isn’t 100% logically thought out (I can see someone responding, punching holes into this idea). However, I wanted to just put it out there for you all to mull over.

Very amusing that all of this Irish talk is occurring on St. Patrick’s Day Eve. lol.

Anyways, I’m cool with the pink sunrise as well (albeit maybe dialed back slightly). The only other complaint I have is that the Porg shot still bugs the shit out of me (especially since I re-watched the similar fireside Porg scene from TLJ the other day and I feel it should look similar to that). However, that’s such a small quibble and I’m not sure if it’s possible to even fix it. So, I’m cool with it as well.

It’s already inferable that only dyads can use Force healing. Think about it, the dyad is treated as super special, we’ve only seen Rey and Ben, both part of the dyad, use Force healing, and there was no indication that any other Jedi or Sith was part of a dyad.

Baby Yoda uses it in The Mandalorian. He’s not a Dyad and it takes place years before TROS.

So, to change the subject from the hostilities that are occurring today, I was telling a friend of mine about this edit and shared it with him. As I did so, I went ahead and went over the changes that occurred with V1.

And guys… I’m getting so excited for V2 and the potential Rey Nobody version. The work that has been done on this and is still being done on it is absolutely amazing. And even though I wasn’t here from the beginning, I’m so amazed to at least be a small apart of this project and this community.

In the Temple march, I really prefer Sidious’s “Day of the Sith” Voice Over to that than just silent. In my opinion, this speech is perfect during this moment.

Damn, this is a really good idea. You should bring it up in the Prequels Radical Redux Thread (which I’m assuming exists).

I can absolutely create that visually, but it isn’t going to have sound. The problem is that there isn’t enough space for the first half of Poe’s line to play because most of it happens off screen when Rey is grabbing the book.

Dang. Well, we’ll just have to figure out something in regards to that.

I think this would be the best possible route to take if we’re really considering cutting out The Hobbit’s line (which I don’t think is necessary but I understand why people would take umbrage with it)

What I can say for certain is that both you and GMatias have had a lot of great ideas each, worth pursuing.

I want to use this response as a springboard to say that I also think both of your guys’ ideas are cool and interesting. And that the little crack I made above regarding Anakin Starkiller’s ideas was solely made just to give him a bit of his own medicine in regards to how he would callously just call people’s ideas stupid or dumb or unnecessary. I now understand that he has a problem with that sort of thing and that he will hopefully work to improve himself about it.

Anyways Anakin, I apologize for saying what I said above.

And yes, the cut is too quick. I see two options right now: figure out a way to completely remove Rey grabbing the book, or remove Merry’s line that is off in the background. Because the way it is worded implies to me at least that he is taking about the galaxy at large, not just the Resistance.

Honestly, if you just cut the whole “Rey retrieving the book” part and just cut from her leaving to Poe and Leia talking, then have her show back up with the book, it could possibly be seamless.

However, I can’t really say for sure without having the footage in front of me. Maybe someone can have a go at it?

I’m going to play Devil’s Advocate concerning The Hobbit’s line in that he IS supposed to be the Big History Boy according to the TROS Visual Dictionary and the book states (and I quote): “Even now, most galactic citizens have no idea that Emperor Palpatine was the last known and prominent Sith adherent, though those in Resistance circles are more likely to be aware.”

So, Jar Jar does have a point about how most people probably didn’t know Palpatine had a hunger to cheat death. However, there is at least a canon precedence to keep the line as it is seeing that The Hobbit may very well have just been talking about the Resistance and himself rather than the Galaxy as a whole.

Anyways, to talk about the edit itself, I also agree that just completely cutting the scene is way too abrupt. If there’s any work to be done, it would have to be effects wise in order to remove the lightsaber. And yet again… this whole tangent is really more appropriate in another thread (like, were we really talking about ANH in this thread of all places? Come on, guys.)

This might be a dumb idea but would it be possible to just lift the scene of Rey watching the ship liftoff in the TFA trailer/TFA and use that as Rey’s parents leaving? That way, you can have two different ships for Ochi and Reyrents.

That’s not a dumb idea and it would probably be the best option, unless you go with SherlockPotter’s suggestion or if you want to bank on Dom’s idea. I think some people might be reluctant to change TFA for TRoS’s sake, though.

Yeah… I honestly hate how TROS is so fundamentally broken that people have to go back and change both TFA and TLJ to make the trilogy seem more cohesive. 😕

Using Rogue One footage is dumb because it’s very clearly set during the OT. There’s no way to remove all the iconography in a way that would make it plausibly pass off as being in the ST era.

It’s a little rude to just call theyre ideas dumb. Constructive criticism is helpful, but just judging something without giving any alternatives or ideas doesn’t help anytime.

I think that idea is a lot more interesting and challenging than say… just using a filter to change the color of the ground to make it seem like a different planet. 😛

Any fan who cares enough to watch a fan edit will instantly know the difference between a Rebel X-Wing and a Resistance X-Wing, or an Imperial TIE Fighter and a First Order Tie Fighter. Admittedly in the latter case a simple color swap should fool most people, but that’d be incredibly tedious to accomplish. There’s definitely no way to make an imperial stormtrooper convincingly pass for a First Order stormtrooper.

Well, I’m assuming Gmatias wouldn’t be using shots that prominently have Imperial Stormtroopers. I think he’s just going to use shots of the Rebels running along the beach and stuff.

And you honestly can’t tell me you can discern the difference between the Rebels and the Resistance, fan or otherwise.

Obviously, that would also mean you’d have to cut out the scene from TFA as well (although with the clip I’m linking, I think it’s an alternate shot anyways so it might work without having to cut anything).
