I just watched some explanation / theory videos on YouTube. Darth Maul isn’t a Sith anymore and he is (most likely) the big boss running the Crimson Dawn? No wonder I felt so out of the loop during that cameo! I guess I really need to watch the animated series now.
Dammit. Meant to edit the last one. -_-
Ron Howard probably deserves a medal for taking the reins on this. I suppose we’ll never see the footage shot by those other two guys.
Actually Ron Howard said in an interview (I think it was with Collider’s Frosty?) that they kept some of the Lord & Miller stuff, some things were combined with reshoot material, some scenes they did again. But yeah… we’ll never know for sure what they specifically shot. He might’ve also said that just to make them feel / look better.
In the trailer I remember seeing Qi’ra with a ponytail (during the Corellia chase) and in the final film she had polka hair. So I guess all the Lord & Miller material can be seen in some of the trailers?
I just came home from the cinema and… well, it was not as bad as I expected. Not amazing but fine. I definitely still think that this movie didn’t need to be made but I don’t really mind since it doesn’t ruin the OT Han for me. I’m one of those people who whine about even the smallest things that just don’t click with me… but I’m still always going to be first in line to see a new Star Wars movie.
I’m just going to ramble some random things that come to my mind while writing this.
At first, I liked the DTA (Don’t Trust Anyone) ideology of Beckett but I think they took it a bit too far in the movie with the “I’m not on your side after all… even though I really am!”
I read a few articles about L3’s (unnecessary?) droid rights advocatism in advance so I was already slightly irritated by her right from the get-go. I was quite relieved to see her go so quickly. She’ll be definitely added to my “list” right next to the Rathtars, Bor Gullet, Porgs and Fathiers. The Space Octopus in the Maw also made me feel a bit funny.
Alden did a good job portraying Han and I didn’t have any trouble “believing him” right from the beginning. There were some moments where I thought “I wonder how Harrison would’ve done that?” but other than that… he was great. I also noticed some pointy fingers in some scenes which was awesome, haha!
Donald Glover was Lando… nothing else to add. Such swagger!
Enys Nest could’ve been some super cool looking (Boba Fett-ish) villain to remember but instead it was some cute teenage girl with dreams of rebellion. That was quite disappointing for me because I was expecting some kind of a Western showdown at that point or at least something more exciting than Dryden Vos.
The Qi’ra twist with the Skype call was probably one of the only scenes where I really felt goosebumps on my arm. I guess I just need those hooded people with lightsabers in my SW movies to get a thrill overload.
Did I understand correctly that Qi’ra was Darth Maul’s apprentice who was undercover in the Crimson Dawn? How is he still alive by the way? My first thought was “Wow! They retconned Darth Maul?!” but then I remembered that I probably need to watch the Clone Wars and/or Rebels to understand it fully.
Also quick shoutout for the mention of Teräs Käsi, which most of you know, is the hand-to-hand combat form and it’s Finnish for Steel Hand. I had already forgotten that it existed in the SW universe.
I’m going to edit this post later when more things come to mind…
Thank the Maker, you’re here! I just commented on one of your awesome videos (Leia Poppins) that you should definitely join OT.com, haha! I’m very stoked to follow this project.
Funnily enough mate…
‘The Last Jedi- Full Movie Re-Edit’ thread by Ivan Ortega Fix
Oh crap… I better start to learn how to use these forums properly. 😄
But anywhooo… that’s great news! I just browsed through his YouTube and there were so many things I’d like to see implemented in a TLJ edit.
Does anyone know if this Ivan Ortega is part of our forums? I’d really like him to join us. Very cool ideas he has.
KK, after watching your amazing V3 of Raiders I really need to ask: any plans for The Temple of Doom + The Last Crusade? 😛
That’s still available at the Internet Archive.
Yeah, I finally managed to find it. Thanks! So happy that it is 4:3 ratio so nothing gets cropped out. 😃
TFA Alt Ending
Ah yes, my good friend AnimeAjay. If you check the tags of the video, you’ll see he included my name there…for certain reasons 😛
Haha, I have only just recently started to get into anime (Death Note was my virgin cruise!) and Dragon Ball has always been something that I’ve known about but never really had the time for because of the huge amount of episodes. Now I just decided one morning that I need to see the whole series, starting from the original Dragon Ball. Then I began to read all about the different releases and color corrections etc. Dragon Boxes, Season sets, Levels sets and oh boy… so much information. 😄
Someone recommended WinxBloom1980’s DBZ to me but that ship seems to have sailed. It had the broadcast audio too if I understood correctly?
This was quite an interesting watch (for noobs on the subject like myself).
“Why Is Japanese Dragon Ball Z’s Sound Quality So Bad?”
I’ve been browsing for the “perfect DB package” on Nyaa for a few weeks now and everything seems to be out of seeders. Fortunately I managed to get the Utsukushii’s Dragon Ball (which only has the Japanese audio with English subtitles). I think I can live without dubs though.
TV’s Frink said:
Harloff Interviews Filoni!
Seems like an odd reason for an exclamation mark but ok.
My apologies, Frink. I just straight up copied the title behind the link.
Harloff Interviews Filoni! They Talk Future of Lucasfilm Ahead of Star Wars Rebels Finale
I wish the script started something like this, haha!
A long time ago in a galaxy far, far, away…
[INSERT EPISODE TITLE HERE]
[INSERT OPENING CRAWL]
[CAMERA PANS DOWN]
Finn opens his eyes slowly as he wakes up inside a healing pod in the medical bay of the Raddus. His head is aching from the dreadful nightmares he experienced during his coma. [FLASHES OF LEIA GLIDING IN SPACE, ROSE TRYING TO KISS HIM AND PORGS SCREECHING DEMONICALLY]
Poe rushes in to greet his dear friend.
There is a team online working on a project of that level via dragon box quality combining different sources like the broadcast audio, I don’t have all the details since they haven’t posted any episodes publicly yet, but they do have the first dbz movie online as an example for what to expect moving forward. This link will only last a tad longer than 3 days so nab it quick if you’re interested.
Much appreciated! 😃
This thread has been dormant for some time now but I’d still like to query if someone knows about this “original Japanese broadcast audio” that people keep mentioning all around the interwebs? Is there some fan-made package somewhere with DBZ “Levels” quality video and the Japanese broadcast audio? I have read that the broadcast audio is much better (or clearer) compared to even the bluray audio.
…or should I just forget about this quest and go straight with Dragon Ball Kai? I heard the English dub is pretty awesome. I just usually go with Japanese audio + English subs.
Thanks for this one, KK! Unfortunately I have no interest in getting another client for torrents at the moment but I’ll promise to seed the next 23GB release.
…out on another forum
By the way Bromeo since you’re around, is this for this fanedit you’ve asked for the english subs to translate into swedish (it might have been for Rise of the Rebellion, I really don’t remember) ? (if you happen to have finished those, I would like very much to get them for my archives if you don’t mind 😃)
Haha, even though I can speak a bit of Swedish… my first language is Finnish so that is the one I’m translating the subtitles into. I haven’t started the operation quite yet (because I’m too busy playing video games) but I’m going to translate RotR and this one as well. But I’ll PM you if/when I get them done.
Any updates regarding the lossless audio (if anyone is still working at it)?
Haha, I’ve been reading and watching tutorials for MKVToolNix, eac3to, mkvmerge all day now and I am still very lost. This has become quite a challenge and now I’m willing to see it through. I’ll report back if I manage to insert the lossless audio into the mkv.
The WAV file HAL has provided with v2.1 does not open in eac3to, but does open in mkvtoolnix - after freezing the program for a few minutes.
I just clicked “multiplex” and it seems to be taking forever but working. Will update this post when it finishes (or crashes).
JEDIT: Muxing failed with mkvtoolnix.
So converting the .wav is a must? I just downloaded MKVToolNix GUI and googling tutorials, haha! I can’t understand why adding an extra audio track in a video file can be so difficult.
Hal 9000 said:
Yes, it too is located within the Google Drive folder linked to on the ‘red… it’ site. It’s a .wav file, as pure of an output as I can provide.
Thank you so much Hal!
Collipso, would you be so kind and help me out with the audio track muxing? Do I need to convert the .wav to some other extension (PCM?) you talked about earlier?
