Are you saying the Rebels' new goal is to blow up a planet more populated than Alderaan??

No. Just to bombard the surface in key places (Imperial bases, etc) just as the Empire planned to do on Hoth (were it not for the Rebels' own shield generator).

Yes, this introduces the issue of heavy civilian losses, but this is war. The Rebels have difficult choices to make to end the Empire's tyranny. The film needs that darker tone to it IMO.

That brings about a host of new questions

 • Why hasn't Coruscant consumed its moon in buildings?
 • Why doesn't the Empire know much about the natives of the moon of its own capital?
 • Why is it surprising that Palpatine is coming to his own capital? He spent most of his time in the prequels there, and it's the capital of his Empire.
 • What is the importance of the forest moon of Coruscant? This is the big one.

The first point is the only one that raised questions for me......erm.....nature reserve? :p
Maybe it was unspoilt in the time of the Prequels for some conservationist reason. Who knows. The point is that by the time of ROTJ, there are buildings being built there by the Empire, and the shield generator itself is there of course. Maybe lots of technology would interfere with the shield generator or something for all the audience would know.

The Empire not knowing much about the natives......not a problem for me, and is it even explicitly stated they don't? In any case, the Empire is arrogant. It's just like them to underestimate the ewoks.

Regarding Palpatine not living on Coruscant, that's not an issue at all in my view. He's a dictator. He'll be living at an undisclosed location in some opulent palace, totally hidden from potential assassins. He doesn't need to be on Coruscant to run his Empire. He has his lackeys to do it for him.

As for what's the importance of the forest moon......the generator for the shield that protects the planet is there......

So I had a "radical" idea for both the OT and the PT (in making it less redundant and connection it more together):

first I would drop the second Deathstar - moving the battle to Coruscant (to the end of RotJ), like it was meant in the "first draft" - the duel would then be on the planet or inside, what works best.

as an alternative to removing the half-finished DS, there could be 2(!) - one unfinished, more open (maybe just the super-laser) and one finished (hidden in off-sight) There should not be the complete imperial fleet in orbit.

Connecting with the PT: maybe replace the droid-control-ships with "space/battle-stations" (foreshadowing the first DS)

instead of just showing the plans for the "ultimate weapon", let them build a prototype, not as refined and big as the real DS, but close enough for Obi-Wan to recognize years later, how similar in design ...

Some have suggested keeping the Endor stuff as is, but making it the moon of Coruscant. It's already stated to be a moon, so not that much of a stretch to make it a moon of somewhere else. I seem to recall reading that in the original draft, this was indeed the case.

Personally, I would LOVE to see the second DS kept (that half built aesthetic is really iconic), but make it less blatant from the start. Its existence ought to have been a surprise and it should be revealed later in the film when the Rebels are launching their assault (on Coruscant). The DS being there at all is the "TRAP" then, rather than it being about it being operational. The Endor shield generator would have to be repurposed to be for a planetary shield around Coruscant rather than the one protecting the DS.

This would also mean the first shot in the movie being changed so the shuttle approaches Coruscant instead. The docking bay it lands in can be repurposed to be on the surface of the planet (in a base, or palace). The approach to the planet would necessitate some pretty heavy CG animation though.

ROTJ's opening really needed something fresh and new that we'd never seen before, and finally seeing the Imperial world would have fitted the bill nicely. Instead, we got a rehash of ANH's opening. What the hell were they thinking?

Oh, yeah, no doubt about that - he can watch it black and white and pan and scan too for all I care. What I'm doubting is his premise that HD video is sharper than real life is. :-D

It might be possible, if say, he has crazy high sharpness and contrast in his TV settings. You know, the type that make your eyes bleed. O_O

I'm hoping to God that was just carrying on the joke, because to imply his TV could be displaying a higher res than actual REALITY is.......silly. It's about as silly as someone making the claim that their TV can display colours we've never seen before. Or a fourth dimension. It's just not possible.

Back on topic? :-p

To watch HD is painful to me because reality doesn't have edges that sharp, why should my TV shows?

LOL, are you serious? :-D

I was thinking the same thing. Last I heard, all film was captured from that thing called "real life".

I guess they applied a sharpening filter to it.

Perhaps a more important question is how have our eyes evolved to see detail that doesn't exist in the real world, but apparently does in a home video format? Answer me that, Darwin. You hack!

why cap at 720p? no 1080p?

Back when Ady settled on 720p, his setup struggled working at 1080p so I believe that was one of the main factors. Also when it comes to the Prequels, 720p will allow shots to be reframed with no quality loss, so there'll be continuity between releases.
Finally, the resolution difference is pretty much indiscernible once you've got your Blu-Ray player's upscaler working. Just take a look at the below comparison:

The Hobbit (2014) - Resource and idea thread

That's pretty much what my plan is for that sequence - follow Bilbo when he falls, then we don't see the Dwarves again until he does.

I'm also considering having Thorin/Azog's battle occur off-screen - cut to black when Bilbo is knocked out, then fade back in as he wakes up. Because that fight was awful, and doing that will let me cut out Tauriel and Legolas easily, too.

Same thoughts here. It's almost too perfect how just going through the movies and intuitively cutting the most gratuitous/silly parts immediately brings it closer to the book.

Wow, there's a lot of us working on 3 into 1 edits :)

I've made a lot of progress on mine, including preliminary cuts on BOTFA. I'll be moving my cuts over to the Blu Ray source when it's available, and I'm waiting on a couple of other sources too. I have someone helping with visual effects too, and some of the redone shots are truly mindblowing. I'll be able to showcase these when I'm closer to releasing it. Don't want to jump the gun and then run into issues and disappoint everyone.

Will there be 4 separate threads created soon to follow the progress on the other movies? Or will there be 1 giant "Revisited Project" thread to track whatever is currently going on in the Adywan productions universe?

I don't think we've discussed it yet, but I would want to keep them separate, mostly so the people who don't care about his prequel edits can follow the RotJR news.

But that's up to Ady.

Then maybe a ROTJ:R thread and a PT:R thread. Just two might be fine, rather than 4 separate threads. Just a thought.

That gets my vote. No way are the Prequels deserving of individual threads. Plus they're getting such a rejig that parts from one episode might end up in another, so it makes sense that they all be grouped together.

So no radical reworking for Kamino then?

I was hoping for something a little less generic than a slightly colour shifted Tatooine or Tatooine (just to make the plot more interesting universe shrinkage be damned).

Maybe another editor will give it a go.

This is just the first colour pass of the whole film. Even if Ady was going to do something really radical with the colouring/mood of any of these locations (which I'd definitely be in favour of) he still needs to do this initial correction so that he has a properly coloured base to work from. Far easier to get your bearings colour-wise when the Oompa Loompa fleshtones are gone.

So this was probably addressed elsewhere, but does Adywan intend to use any deleted scenes in any of the movies? And if so, is he able to colorize any of the interesting B/W ones?

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem any deleted scenes are available in satisfactory quality, which is a particular shame for ROTJ and the Prequels. The deleted scenes on the Prequel DVDs were the most promising, which were bizarrely absent from the Blu-Ray. You'd need a damn good upscaler to make them in any way usable. It's almost as if Lucas was going out of his way to deny faneditors useful resources.

I've seen one of these Falcons up close and the detail is ridiculously accurate for a 'toy' - far more so than any actual kit. Something tells me Hasbro wanted to appeal to the model making community. It's almost as if they had to leave some of the panels blank for stickers just to make it a toy rather than a replica.

As far as Yoda is concerned, I developed the impression that he was supposed to be a lot like Pai Mei, in that he did not exile himself to Dagobah so much as he was always there. Maybe not all Jedi would go there, but those seen with great potential would be sent there for the highest level of Jedi training.

I have always thought along these lines. Even if you still have the Jedi Temple in the middle of Coruscant (which I think is out of place), Yoda wouldn't be there. He would be meditating on Dagobah, communicating telepathically to the Jedi Council. If you're willing to go to that slimy mudhole for a chance to be trained by Master Yoda, you are one dedicated Jedi! Plus, his absence in the PT would preserve the reveal in ESB.

This is how I've always seen it too and I've often drawn a comparison to Pai Mei. Maybe he chose to live on a planet with "Massive lifeform readings" because with the force being generated by "all living things" it somehow helped him meditate being surrounded by so much life. Or maybe it helped mask his whereabouts from the Sith/Dark Jedi. Who knows. He shouldn't be so prominent in the prequels, that's for sure. He went from mysterious monk to nursery school teacher. Bleh!

Star Wars Sound Effects Archive - A collection of SW sounds for use in Fan Edits (* unfinished project *)
Time

Just an update. This project is not vaporware, I promise. :p A resource I expected to be released in December hasn't been released yet, so I'll need to wait for that to come out as the sound files in this product are going to be a great asset.

As I'm now also helping out with Star Wars: Revisited in a small capacity, I'm extra motivated to get this done so Adywan can make use of them. I've already found something for him in my archive that he had given up on ever finding, so it's good to know it will be useful to people.

Hope everyone had a great new year!

STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW

Bringing this off-topic discussion sort of full circle, one of the OT surprises I would love to see preserved is Yoda being the little green dude Luke meets on Dagobah. Some people (Ady included) believe this was never intended to be a surprise, due to the promo material ruining it ahead of the film's release, but I think it absolutely was intended to be a surprise for the viewer and just happened to be ruined by shoddy and over-enthusiastic marketing. Nothing in the scene up until the "I cannot train him" conveys to us it's Yoda, so a fresh viewer is just as clueless as Luke is until that point.

Even though the "reveal" happens soon after we meet him, I still disagree that it isn't worth preserving. I was born in 1984, and first saw it on tv without anything to ruin it, and it was a great moment for me, personally. Whether removing Yoda, or hiding his identity in the Prequels is even possible is another matter entirely. There probably wouldn't even be a film left with all that Ady's going to have to cut anyway :)

Yeah, I think ImperialFighter may have got the wrong end of the stick there :p

In either case, Ady hasn't made public his specific plans for Padme in the Prequels, nor whether he'll go with that particular approach. There is another thread for discussion not directly related to ESB:R though. Ady is subscribed to it, so he may reply - though whether he'll divulge anything is another matter ;)
