I'm going to vote 'no' on the aurora borealis idea.

Auroras only occur in polar regions where a planet's magnetosphere interferes with solar wind. I think we would be taking too many liberties with the story if we inserted ideas on the location of Echo Base.

Plus, it's an unnecessary embellishment in my opinion.   :)

I think it's unnecessary too. Not to mention Ady has more than enough on his plate already :)

With all this extra model/fx work you're putting in, Ady, you should get a member of your family to document the whole process and then release it as a 'making of' documentary. :)

I'd absolutely love to see what your living room sets look like!

The fade was always there until the SE. I never liked the straight cut which is why i restored the original fade

I guess it just looks out of place to me because any of the other instances where there were previously fades, have been changed to wipes, making this the only remaining fade in the whole film (correct me if I'm wrong)

Now this is utterly RADICAL but this is what this thread is all about.

Retain Hayden's fall, just make him a different person. i.e. not Anakin. Remove the chosen one aspect, and remove Padme having babies.

That way, he's still Obi Wan's student, but assumed to have become Darth Vader. Then it is revealed in Empire that its really Obi Wan's good and loyal Jedi friend, Anakin (whom we never see in the PT)

Can you imagine how shocking that revelation would be? We're all under the impression that Darth Vader was the little shit of a student we saw in the PT, but it turns out to be Luke's dad!

It would make his unmasking that much more coherent with the PT (seeing as Sebastian shaw looks nothing like Hayden Christensen).

It can, but there are still references to Vader being Obi Wan's pupil in A New Hope, which makes it obvious straight away that vader is anakin (to people who've watched the saga in chronological order and know very well that Anakin was his only pupil)

EDIT: It would also mean cutting "when I left you, I was but the learner. Now I am the master". SACRELIGIOUS!

Now if only there was a way of giving Obi Wan a pupil that was a complete asshole.

Oh wait....

Not a bad idea, but I'm not sure how Ady would feel about it.  It's kind of revising the originals to fit in with the prequels, which he frowns upon, but I don't think it would be a terrible change.  Most people wouldn't notice, and unless Ady can replace Qui-Gon with Yoda, it helps out the prequels.

Yeah. A change from "the" to "a" isn't going to be noticed by many people. And for those that do, I'm of the opinion it would be a welcome change.

I'm unsure if this has been covered before. I didn't see it in the changelog.

Changing ghost Obi wan's line of "the Jedi master who instructed me" to "A Jedi master who instructed me"

Either get an "A" from elsewhere in the saga, or perhaps even cutting the "th" would suffice.

Depends how you want the A pronounced :)

Actually I didn't like the change to the Snivvian but that's only because he repeats the exact same actions twice. It was like two blinks and a lip curl that he does and then a second later he repeats the exact same movement. It would have been more realistic to have him either do one or the other or start with both and then the second time only do one. There was one or two other examples of that but I can't recall specifically at the moment. Overall though I liked the enhancements.

This repetition of actions doesn't bother me at all (I didn't even notice this) although it might do now that you've pointed it out. THANKS A BUNCH! :p

What bothers me is his mouth and nose seem to move together, and it just looks like his face is stretching unnaturally. It's the only instance in the cantina that pulls me out and reminds me that this was done using 'Meshwarp' (I think that's what it's called)

Cool pic, but I don't think "Vader" has any place in the PT. Dark Anakin (who it is assumed, dies) yes, but no Vader.

Or at least no Anakin as Vader. If we could integrate glimpses of Vader, without making it obvious it's a cyborg Anakin, but a completely different entity (which would make obi blaming Anakin's death on him in New Hope that much more feasible) this could tie up the PT and OT nicely.

EDIT: Actually, thinking about it, that still wouldn't make sense with Obi's "who was a pupil of mine until he turned to evil"

GAH!

What's illegal? He wouldn't be selling or even distributing this packaging. Just creating the images for people to print out themselves, I'm assuming.

Haha. I hate the term "british accent". Implies that everyone in Britain sounds the same.

I'm Welsh, so I sound Completely different to Adywan :)

Interesting post about Paypal, brash_stryker. Sometimes it works out great. A friend of mine bought a guitar and when he received it, it was not in great shape. Lots of flaws and damage that was not shown in pictures and the description mentioned nothing about. In the end, my friend not only got all his money back, but got to keep the guitar because the seller wasn't responding or something. Ha!

They're just crooks. They promise both parties that they're protected (but this is of course impossible).

It's pointless trying to reason with Paypal directly too, because their customer service is just as appalling as ebay's. All you'll ever get is copied and pasted responses not addressing your questions.

Trading Standards FTW!

thanks for the advise. The thing is that thanks to our postal system the seller was 100% covered with what he did. You can request a signature upon delivery without having to pay for the insurance. now because the post office have lost it Paypal (and any other company for that matter) and it wasn't insured the most they will offer is £30. the seller is covered along with paypal.  you see , the thing with that Paypal clause you posted , is that this only covers when a buyer claims that he hasn't received an item but the seller is saying that he sent it and he has proof that the buyer has received it.  I spoke to my brothers friend who is a solicitor this weekend and he has had a look over it and he has said that it is indeed the post office that are liable and paypal don't have to cover anything in this case. If he had paid for the insurance then i would get all the money back, but he didn't so i'm screwed.

Stuff like this really gets me angry. Paypal advertises itself as "the safe, easy way to pay" but it is anything but. They rip off both buyers and sellers on a regular basis.

It clearly states that the seller is only covered by Paypal if he gets a signature. By covering the seller when there is no signature, and he's merely requested one, they are in breach of their own rules. Whether the package going missing is the post office's fault or not is irrelevant. It's a seperate entity, and not insuring a package has ALWAYS been at consequence to the seller. NEVER the buyer (who has no say in it). You should have your full refund and he should have his measly £30 compensation. That is how things have always worked!

In my experience, if a seller cannot provide door to door tracking, the case is always found in favour of the buyer.

On ebay (I'm assuming you bought on ebay), you will have noticed on the right hand side there's a box that says "you are covered by paypal buyer protection up to £500". This, in your case, would be an outright lie.

I would strongly urge you to at least try with trading standards (I'd even be happy to do some chasing on your behalf). Just go to them with the following info. Along with the relevant paypal transaction ids etc:

The auction was covered by Paypal Buyer Protection.
The item did not arrive.
No tracking info provided. No signature indicating item arrived.
Paypal still found in favour of the seller.
You're out £200.

Seriously. Unless there have been some major changes in how paypal works recently, protecting the seller has always hinged upon them taking the proper precautions in sending an item. No signature, and the buyer wins the case. It is then up to the seller to recoup his losses from the post office. No insurance, then that's the seller's problem for not taking the proper precautions. That's how it's always been for me, and I've dealt with them MANY times.

If he ever was to go down that route (I know he won't, but hey)  then there's only a couple of things I'd change. I know you've probably heard this all before, Ady, but please don't take offense at my constructive criticism.

I like the new order of the scene in Ben's hut (and anyone who doesn't has the purist edition right?) but luke's reply of "no my father didn't fight in the wars" comes a little quick in my opinion but this is the most minor gripe I have, and delving deeper, his quick response could even hint that luke knew what Ben was going to say before he finished saying it - Jedi Precognition :P

The Snivvian in the cantina (in the scene where the troopers walk past Han and Chewie) has had his face animated, but it doesn't look right (in contrast with all the other cantina aliens, which look absolutely excellent) maybe he should have been left unanimated. He has what I can only describe as 'melty face syndrome'.

The scene where it cuts from that alien radioing the troopers, to luke and ben approaching the falcon used a fade instead of a straight cut. I felt that a straight cut worked better.

When Ben gets struck down, the plinky noise in the music as a result of the transition being sped up is a bit jarring and could perhaps use some softening up.

THAT'S IT. Those are the only problems I had with this edit, and this is coming from both a supreme star wars geek, and a perfectionist. I'm sorry if I've offended in any way by posting my observations, especially at this late stage.

EDIT: All these things bother me less and less every time I watch it (watched it again last night) so it's probably more to do with unfamiliarity than any actual problems.

There was a new hope and the Empire did strike back so it would make sense to make the titles relavent to what actually happens in the films they are attached to.

Which is why I think changing Return to Revenge is unnecessary, because it is relevant as it is.

Also the word revenge, to me, would cheapen the Jedi order (something some might approve of as it shows them to be imperfect) but this would not be my cup of tea.

Return rolls off the tongue better too, IMO.

Anyway, we've gone off topic a bit. This is the PREQUEL radical redux thread afterall :P

Haha. This latest revelation is amusing :D

One thing I'm curious of. If Adywan was to "redo" ANH:R using the German HD source instead of the DVD source, how much work would this be?

I'm assuming it wouldn't just be a case of replacing the original source video file with the new one, and all the changes are not simply "overlays" for lack of a better word.

In premiere, for example, if I was to edit using a video file and then changed the file's location, premiere would then ask me to direct it to the file. If I were to direct it to a different file which was the same video but higher quality, all these changes would be applied in exactly the same way but I'd end up with a better quality version.

What I'm pondering is, would adywan be able to simply direct the program to the German HD source instead of the original, and still retain all or most of the changes in his project.

A long shot I know. My knowledge of after effects is limited, so I don't know whether it actually alters the source video when using it, or adds new overlays (or whatever you'd call them) to your timeline.

Sorry if I'm not making myself very clear.

EDIT: Also, this is in no way a request for Adywan to actually redo ANH:R. I understand how annoying such requests can be. I'm simply curious about how the process works, is all :)

The clones don't attack and we haven't a clue what the Sith want revenge for, at least there is a phantomy menace in TPM.

Phantom Menace is the only title that makes any sense, but Revenge of the Sith is the only one that feels Star Warsy. *dilemma*

Really it makes sense to swap the revenge and return around so TPM becomes Return Of The Sith (the Sith clearly return from being thought of as extinct) and the final episode returns to being Revenge Of The Jedi (despite what Lucas may say about Jedi being above such things the Jedi clearly had their arses handed to them in Episode III and return the favour in Episode VI.)

There is a Clone Wars TV DVD called A Galaxy Divided and it evokes British Civil War dramas like By The Sword Divided.

So I'd like A Galaxy Divided to be the Episode II title and The Shadow Falls is such a great title it really should be used at it would make a very good Episode III title.

Hi there mangojango, some really interesting ideas there, glad to have you onboard.

"a galaxy divided" is brilliant idea for a title. "the shadow falls" or "the falling shadow"? im personally divided over the "revenge of the jedi" title. it sounds quite dark as it is like the jedi (ie luke) is compromising himself, but the great thing about 'return' s that it can apply to vader's redemption too.

A Galaxy Divided is also reminiscent of this:

http://www.productwiki.com/upload/images/star_wars_galaxies.jpg

I approve of 'A Galaxy Divided' as a title for Episode 2, but I'm not a big fan of 'A shadow falls'.

How about Episode 1? I recall a fan edit named 'A Vergeance in the Force'. It's not great, in my opinion, but the best title I've seen.
