No Gaffertape, no deal.
No Gaffertape, no deal.
I'm glad he's not going the digital route. There's enough of that in Star Wars already these days :)
I can't WAIT to see the new Wampa puppet when it's done.
Ah sorry. That makes sense.
HotRod said:You may just want to edit his email address on your post there man. Last thing ady needs is a shit load of spam (or whatever) flooding his hotmail account!!!
The email address is in his sig anyway isn't it?
Also I'm pretty sure he'll be making Mace's lightsaber blue. I could be wrong though.
How the hell are you so talented? lol
Do you have prior experience in model making to be doing all this?
I know you had no prior experience in editing before doing ANH:R but if you're also learning the model making from scratch then that is really quite impressive!
Quite possibly
Ah. Thanks for clearing that up. I was getting worried I'd annoyed you.
Have sent you a PM.
adywan said:I replied to this in the ANH:R thread. The fade was always there in ANH until the SE came along and for some reason they omitted it (probably something to do with the added Jabba scene and the amount of wipes between the scenes). All i did was restore what was originally there, and had been for 20 years
I understand your reasons for the change, and wasn't in any way having a go. I'm sorry you've taken offense. I only mentioned it because I was wondering whether there were any such fades in the original ESB, and if so, would you be restoring these too? I'm not familiar enough with the original cut to remember whether there were any fades.
Also, in regards to the heat effect on the torture device, what you said makes sense. An electrical effect would be more believable in terms of Han not being burnt to a crisp.

For the love of god, George could be watching. Don't give him any ideas!

Still working on Episode VI. Haven't even started on I, II and III
These covers are beautiful. Very nice work. Only thing is, where are they going to go, colour-wise when you reach the PT, seeing as these are all based on prominent saber colours?
Also, I recall you saying in another thread that you use the same barcode for all your projects. It might be overkill, but have you considered creating a barcode yourself for it (there are generators around the place) so that, when scanned, it would display the name of the edit?
I'm sure the geekiest amongst us would appreciate that :P
Edit: Also, could you PM me with download links of any that you've finished? I've grabbed the New Hope one from another thread (I'm assuming it's the finished version), but can't seem to find the ESB one.
Isn't 'Jedi Rocks' that god awful SE musical number that replaces 'Lapti Nek' in Jabba's palace?
Ripplin said:I was wondering something, Adywan: are you the type that can have two or three projects (models, puppets, etc...) going at once, or do you prefer to finish one and then move on to the next one?
I've also been wondering this. Would be pretty daunting for me working on all things simultaneously, although I suppose when you get frustrated with one thing, I guess it's a welcome change to continue with something else.
Ady building the Wampa:
"Why won't this damn cotton wool stay glued? Fuck you, horny yeti wannabe."
*looks over at Falcon kit in hundreds of pieces*
"I love you really"
I just can't understand how the cg in Jurassic Park looks so real when it's about 16 years old. By the time Jurassic Park 3 came out, the cg looked fake again.
All cg these days has this shiny, untangible feeling to it, the only exception being Gollum in LOTR which was awesome. In comparison to Gollum, Yoda is a joke.
Edit: MOST cg* Not lumping Transformers in the same category Angel ;)
I mainly mean cg creatures, not robots.
Oh don't get me started on Yoda. He looks fake whenever i see him.
I can imagine someone like Ady buying a puppet, shooting some new footage and compositing it in over the cg one (assuming their edit would omit yoda fighting which I sincerely hope)
No need to add evidence of torture. Han's "I feel terrible" is more than sufficient. The only thing that could be added is an effect of the air warping from the heat like someone has already mentioned, but i hesitate to suggest it as that would just mean more work for Adywan.
Also, does anyone know whether Ady is using any fades as he did in ANH:R when they approach the falcon? Were there even any fades in ESB originally? That's probably my only problem with ANH:R now that I've got used to (and approve of) the other changes, not because it doesn't work, but because it's the only fade left in the film.
Excellent work Angel, as always. Those purple lasers always bugged the hell out of me, (as do the blue ones from the troopers). It's just adding colours for the sake of it.
Going (slightly) off topic, I like how Ady has made the Ion cannon in ESB:R blue. That has always seemed like a more logical choice to me due to the electrical discharge on the star destroyer when it hits. It somehow looks like a less dangerous laser colour than red or green too, which lends itself well to it being a weapon for immobilising the enemy, not blowing them to bits.
So yeah, blue lasers should be reserved for ion cannons. :)
EDIT: And Bar Bar Jinkx, I totally agree. The clone troopers look so fake to me too, especially in ROTS when we see a closeup shot of an unmasked trooper in his arc fighter (another thing that needs changing to more pre-imperial esque ships IMO)
DuTwan said:Im gonna suggest something now thats gonna blow ppl away i think, its either gonna be a good discussion or completely shot down lmao. How about we reedit anakins lightsaber to green for all of AOTC, that way luke and his father both changed colour at the end of the trilogy, luke on tatooine, anakin on grievous' ship lol gonna try and edit a pic from somewhere
I think that's pretty unnecessary myself, despite the fact it would add parallels between sagas (which I think there are plenty of already). My favourite idea on these boards so far is all the PT sabers being blue. It adds so much more weight to the moment when we see Luke fire up his saber in ROTJ for the first time.
Having said this, I've always loved having a full spectrum of colours to choose from in the games such as KOTOR :)
Also, nice job Eyeshotfirst! :)
I second white/gray for the younglings' 'training sabers'
However, in my dream edit, the younglings scene would never appear anyway.
I love the idea of all the Prequel sabers being blue, that way, in ROTJ when luke fires up his new one, it's a ZOMGWTF moment.
Hints that he could be straying from the 'proper' jedi path, and signifies a new era.
The only possible exception would be dooku (if someone does an edit where he's not a sith) perhaps his could be green too, or another colour even. Orange? Yellow? I'm sick of purple simply due to Sam Jackson.

Yeah agreeing it should have been done is one thing, coming up with footage that doesn't exist for the edit is another.
If Ady wants it he could find a way.
That is if Adywan wants it.
Ady is very talented but he's not some kind of magician. He can't create scenes out of nothing. There is no footage to work with for what you're talking about.
AxiaEuxine said:The saber colors have no deep mystical meaning. Sith use artificial crystals which make the blade color red. end of story no deep philiosphical meaning behind blade color.
I don't really see how you can use an in-universe explanation to debunk filmic symbolism.
I'd never heard that voice before (although I have seen Building Empire a while back- must have forgotten). Definitely a better voice for it and I'm pleased this is being addressed. The current version does sound a bit silly.
In regard to the droid thing, the way i always understood it was that droids are indeed mindless drones, until that is, they go without a memory wipe for too long, and develop their own personality, becoming sentient and having free will - which explains R2 and threepio's independence.
I'd even go so far as to say I don't particularly mind ghost Hayden at the end, so long as it was consistent with unmasked vader. (which currently it isn't)
I think the only reason I hated seeing ghost hayden in the dvd release was because I hated his portrayal of Anakin in the prequels - something a talented editor can hopefully fix to a degree.
Of course, the preferable route would be to go back and reshoot prequel Anakin with someone who looks like a young Sebastian Shaw, rather than changing the OT. Damn Lucas for making his own saga so damn inconsistent with regards to who he considers the main character of the series!
