Hotlinking is for monkeys ;-)
<-- Decided to change mine to one of me in awe of my enormous THX mic. Come on, ladies!
The previous vids show that he's currently got flashbacks from within 'A New Hope' as well as from the prequels (such as the Tantive battle as we don't see it at the beginning). The idea being that we learn of the battle as our characters recount it to Luke.

Just overlay a yellow rectangle around the border of the entire movie, with text underneath that reads "everything highlighted in yellow has been altered." :)
But then the entire screen would be yellow through the whole thing :-p
So...where are all the chicks?
My previous pic was me, albeit hidden under a Stormtrooper helmet :-)
Just found it before you replied. Should have looked harder :-p
Off topic, but why has everyone suddenly changed their avatars? I figured it was some mass joke (judging by tv's frink's) but I see you have your own pic in yours doubleofive.
Confused.
Apologies if that's actually you, Tv's Frink :-p
Also, another reason I favour demuxing in Mpeg Streamclip is that some videos (dvd menus for example) don't show up in MacTheRipper at all. Literally the only way to get hold of them is to open the individual VOBs in Mpeg Streamclip. Again, I've tried making this guide applicable to absolutely anything someone might want to rip, not just the main videos on a disc.
Very interesting! I'll have to have a look and possibly re-evaluate my guide. I looked tirelessly for an alternative for mac3dec but found nothing.I even asked on the Creative Cow forums and the best they could suggest was to import an AC3 into Final Cut, unlink the channels and export each channel one by one into its own file. LOL.
Having said this, my current guide is quite friendly to beginners in that it doesn't require guesswork in choosing which VOB to demux (no preview in MacTheRipper), and uses only 2 programs rather than 3. Adding a52decX into my current guide may automate the splitting of the 6 channels, but it adds its own 2 steps (demuxing with Mpeg Streamclip and then splitting with a52decx). Splitting directly in Mpeg Streamclip is only a 4 step process, so it's essentially a whole other program for the sake of 2 steps less than my current guide. Is it really worth it? The act of downloading and installing a52decX can count as the 2 remaining steps themselves. Lol ;-)
Obviously the demuxing in MacTheRipper and then splitting with a52decX is ideal if you're only ripping the main movie, but I'm trying to make this guide as flexible, and cover as many scenarios, as possible - DVD menu videos, deleted scenes, documentaries etc - things people won't be able to identify in MacTheRipper without trial and error. I could add this as an option in my guide, but I fear it may overly complicate it. Thoughts?
Are you sure about that? I'd actually looked into A52decX previously and it says nothing about it being able to split 6 channel audio into it's individual channels. Everything it says about it indicates it just converts the ac3 into an individual AIFF. No discrete elements.
The only program I've seen that's meant to perform the task you say is mac3dec (which I mention in my guide) but it no longer works under leopard or snow leopard, otherwise I'd be using it.
And yes, you can of course demux the audio and video into m2v and ac3 in MacTheRipper without ripping the entire DVD, but you'd be doing it blind without being able to preview the clip to be able to tell what part it was. It's only really useful for the main feature as it is labelled (MF).
And even then, you'd still need a program to split the ac3 into 6 unique channels, and everything I've read about A52decX indicates it doesn't. If it does, they really ought to have listed it as a feature rather than just saying "a52decX converts an AC-3 file being used for the sound of DVD-Video into an AIFF file". Have you actually tried it yourself and can confirm it's resulted in 6 individual channels? e.g. LFE (low frequence effects) should just be an occasional low rumble and nothing else.
Additionally you have to use MPEGStreamclip for the video encoding anyway, so it's not like I've added an extra unnecessary program to my steps :-p
Can't wait!
Imagine the things we could do if we had the original greenscreen footage from the Ranch, and a few good amateur actors.
*SIGH*
Yeah but this is a movie. Unless a films is specifically about a character with senile dementia, his reminiscing of Anakin will be accurate, simply for the sake of the audience :-p
Personally, I'd much prefer Anakin be the older, previous pupil and the other, current one be "Hayden".
This is how my dream edit/reshoot would play out.
We get to see the young "Hayden" overshadowed and jealous of the older, more experienced and more talented favourite, Anakin Skywalker - the best starfighter in the galaxy, a cunning warrior and a really close friend to Obi Wan. Obi Wan is overly domineering and expects more from "Hayden". Constantly expecting him to meet the same standards as his previous apprentice.
In film 3 we see glimpses of Jedi being murdered by a hooded figure. They are being hunted.
We naturally think it's "Hayden" that turns to the dark side and becomes Vader - which isn't hard to believe as he's established as a whiny jealous little shit. Hayden acts suspiciously on screen and is absent for long periods. His excuse to Obi Wan is that he's investigating something important (or something similarly ambiguous).
Anakin announces to the council via Hologram that he's discovered that "Hayden" is behind the killings and that he's off to confront him and end it once and for all.
We see Anakin walk into a room with "Hayden" looking out a window. With the camera behind Anakin we see him ignite his saber and the door shuts in front of us.
We only see one hooded figure leave the building, which explodes and burns as the dark figure walks away. The council then believe Anakin to have been killed confronting "Hayden" who they know from Anakin's holomessage has turned to the dark side.
Of course, come TESB, it becomes clear that it wasn't "Hayden" that "betrayed and murdered" Anakin, but it was the other way around.
I've thought a lot about this, and believe it's the best way of solving every problem created by the current prequels - the current Anakin isn't painted as any of the things Obi Wan describes Luke's father as in ANH, so we need a new one and the current Anakin becomes the other apprentice.
Impossible? Almost certainly.
But I think not actually SEEING the turn to the dark side not only solves the current problem of us knowing explicitly that he's become Darth Vader, but also gives the reveal that much more impact in TESB. With Hayden as Anakin, it's no big surprise - we hate him. With a new nicer Anakin who seems a great guy up until his apparent death, it's so much more of a shame and gives more weight to the corrupting power of the dark side - he's conspired against his own friends while keeping up the facade of being good until the time came to frame and kill the only person to know the truth, and disappeared, adopting completely the mantle of "Darth Vader".

Impossible for Adywan... Blasphemy! :P I'm willing to bet he could find someone to dub it almost perfectly, and manipulate the mouth to make it look like Luke says" Lars".
I also think it is on topic, because it is an idea for the upcoming ANH:R HD...
Agree to disagree. I do doubt Ady will go this direction, but I thought I'd throw it out there.
Using meshwarp to animate the faces of rubber cantina aliens is one thing. Human faces is another.
He hesitated on doing it with the emperor hologram even, let alone regular actor footage.
Even if he wanted to do it (HE WON'T!) it wouldn't work. Lol.
Not gonna say anymore after this because it's off topic, but removing "Skywalker" from the PT is easy.
Easier than changing Skywalker to Lars at any rate, which is impossible to do convincingly - no soundbite of Luke saying 'Lars' and we SEE him say Skywalker.
It's a dumb idea.
Or refilm the prequels with Obi Wan having 2 apprentices - where it's implied that one turns to the dark side and betrays the other - but in Empire we find out it's not the one we thought it was.
Surely it makes more sense to remove the name Skywalker from the prequels - films that need to be deconstructed to their basic elements anyway before they might be fixable.
Still got my eye on this. Really looking forward.
I hesitate to suggest anything else as you say you've made up your mind on the crawl, but to echo what others have said, I think the first line needs to refer to the galaxy-wide struggle as opposed to that of our heroes. That way it stays in line with the rest of the saga. :-)
One of the main complaints about the ROTJ crawl is the lack of a sense of epic scale, right from the outset. Here's a quote from the article '50 reasons why Return of the Jedi sucks':
28. The Opening Text Crawl – In which we are given our first taste of each of the three films. Let’s compare their opening sentences, shall we?
WARS: “It is a period of civil war….”
EMPIRE: “It is a dark time for the Rebellion…”
JEDI: “Luke Skywalker has returned to his home planet of Tatooine in an attempt to rescue his friend Han Solo from the clutches of the vile gangster Jabba the Hutt. Charro guest stars.”
Okay, we threw in the part about Charro. But the point is, we’re talking mythic tracts versus a blurb from TV Guide. The first sentence in Jedi centers around the word “friend.” Well, that’s just peachy, but we much prefer the first two films’ implications that we’re about to see something a bit larger than a buddy picture.

Beat me to it, Bingo.
^I was going to say this too, but then a voice in my head said "don't feed it"
