Info & Help: looking for... other ld-rips to dvd movies ex. blade runner int cut, songs of the south, frighteners dir cut - and much much more...

Ghostbusters
Criterion CAV
- one deleted scene on side 1 was not included on the DVD: the Ghostbusters in the stairway before entering their office on campus
- special effects comparisons unique to LD
- Theatrical teaser unique to LD.

I don't have them but if someone has the LD...

I have the Criterion CAV Ghostbusters and am looking into making a companion disc to the existing DVD.

Another addition to what's *not* on the new DVD release (and assuming this wasn't on the LD):

The trivia subtitle track (aka "fact track" on some dvd's), on the previous DVD of Ghostbusters. Why is this not on the re-release? No new features, and removing the trailers and trivia track-- wtf? Aside from consumers who didn't buy 'em the first time around, who is the new set for? Apparently, not fans.

Gundrosens SW covers(1-6+classic+bonus)
Time
I really like the above Sith cover.

And I dig all the Clone Wars covers I've ever seen (really like the side-by-side with the connecting spine picture)... except for the official one-- it's just kinda blah.

The thing I dislike most about the official prequel logos/posters is the focus not being on the title of the movie, but on its Episode number, which was then continued on the OT box set. It's almost disrespect for the fact the movies have actual titles. I'd love to see the ROTJ-like Sith logo on a cover, which was on t-shirts a while back. And I believe included in a slipcase on the UK release of the Sith soundtrack-- and it looks awesome.

Another peeve is the fact that Hayden Christensen looks exactly like Thomas Haden Church (Sideways, TV's "Wings") on the Sith poster artwork. Thomas Ha(y)den Christ(Church)ensen. Conspiracy? I think so.

Which brings me to a question - Elias, are the LDs fullscreen or widescreen? I ask because your sample is unfortunately fullscreen ...

I guess I meant if one would use The Godfather Trilogy LD as a starting point, and incorporate the Epic LD material. Especially if there is nothing exclusive to the deleted scenes on the DVD (I'm not sure, as I don't own that set yet). Plus, I thought I read that it was possible to convert fullscreen to widescreen with the technology that the kids today are using (unless I'm wrong and just dreamed that up).

Even if the entire project was fullscreen, I think it would still be a great alternate version to watch.

Info: The Frighteners - Signature Collection laserdisc preservation thread
Time
I too am excited that the project is moving forward. I love The Frighteners, and own a decent LD transfer from an ebay purchase. And I would still be interested in the new attempt. We still don't know the full specs of the new release, and I wouldn't be surprised if there was something left out (or, *added*). Besides, you can't trust any "official" release-- just ask Lucasfilm. How many botched DVD releases have there been? Some are quality control issues, i.e. the Back to the Future II & III misframed transfer mishap. Others are missing features that fans know should be included. And others are prints/cuts/versions that are inexplicably absent from release or absurdly altered. When a an old VHS release is complete, or has a better transfer or something, you wonder "Why they'd bother with the DVD anyway?" Sometimes it's almost a curse to be a devoted fan, or somewhat "in the know"-- ignorance truly is sometimes bliss. Fan Preservation is practically a must with certain films.

And on a side rant: why even bother releasing pan & scan garbage on DVD anymore? Consumers will get used to widescreen and get over it. Flat screen TV prices are coming down, the DVD successfully overtook the videocassette-- fullscreen is dead and should be pronounced as such, with toe-tag attached. And doesn't it cost more, and require more work to chop up movies for home video? Two totally awful pan & scan videos I remember watching are The Fan (the DeNiro flick), and Multiplicity-- which *needs* to be widescreen anyway, esp. with all the shots of multiple Michael Keatons. There was intrusive, bad panning throughout those movies. Ugh. Not to mention the whole "changing the director's vision" issue by literally changing the framing of shots that way.

I try not to use too much profanity when posting, but HOLY FUCK is the Search function on this board the absolute shits.

I've been reading this otherwise cool board for awhile now, just now joining the ranks, and I agree.

However, I think I've discovered why Search is the shits. I don't know if anyone else noticed this: I searched for "frighteners" to get to this thread with no problem, so I assumed the search function worked fine-- this thread, and the other one mentioning Frighteners in the title showed up.

Then I searched for "Godfather" and nothing came up. "WTF?" I naturally wondered, because The Godfather was clearly mentioned in a thread, and spelled correctly, too. Then I theorized that maybe the search function only finds threads with the search words *in the thread title*. Sure enough, I tried "songs of the south" (which is misspelled within the thread title), and that thread came up in the search.

I don't know how useful this find is, but it helps to understand why the search function is limited.

Re: The Godfather Epic/Trilogy LD scenes.

So does the bonus DVD disc contain all the deleted scenes that were used in the Epic and the Trilogy? Or just some?

I'm sure this would be a gargantuan task, but since there are content discrepancies between the Epic and the Trilogy (both containing different deleted material inserted, etc.), it would be rather awesome if one all-encompassing "Definitive Trilogy Edition" was made with ALL material included.

Just thinking out loud.

<strong>The Official Greencapt 'Batman &amp; Robin: De-Assified' Edit thread</strong> (Released)
Time
I would also LOVE a copy of this! I was so saddened by the awfulness (and the assiness) of B&R, that I'm excited to see it in an "improved" cut. I think I might've tried to watch it once on video after seeing it in the theater, but I believe I blocked it out. My friend said after we saw it the first time (I think he was delirious from all the butt and nipple shots): "Batman Forever is the worst Batman movie of all time, but Batman & Robin is somehow worse-- figure that out!"

I'm a newbie here, so if anyone could please PM-- I'll gladly send a blank DVD or whatnot. Thanks!

I have the Criterion CAV Ghostbusters and am looking into making a companion disc to the existing DVD. I just picked up the Criterion CAV Princess Bride that has Rob Reiner reading William Goldman's book and I'm assuming a different audio commentary than the current MGM disc. Also on tap is the first volume of the Golden Age of Looney Tunes and hopefully Francis Ford Coppola's Heart of Darkness.

By the way, I'm De and I'm new here

I KNEW there was at least one deleted scene missing from the Ghostbusters DVD, because I remember seeing it at a friend's house years ago. I'm pretty sure there are some more from I, and definitely some from II, but who knows why those aren't included on the pointless, redundant new green set.

A companion GB disc would be cool. Infuriatingly and inexplicably missing from the new set are the trailers! There was a trailer for II on the orig. I dvd, and trailers for both on the previous II dvd. I mean, you can't tell me there wasn't room for trailers on the new ones. I love the GB I trailer, too (and it doesn't have the "In a world..." guy). And they left off the MST3K-like "video commentary" off the new GB dvd, but that's one omission I didn't mind. I don't remember the teaser trailer.

Hi, I'm new here, too.

Idea &amp; Info: a Preservation of Alien Evolution doco?

The Alien Saga is a great documentary. I think they re-aired it on AMC earlier this year.

So are all 3 of those docs on DVD uncut? I got the Legacy Box Set a few years ago and was disappointed after reading about the send-away disc being unavailable otherwise in the US. And the previous anniversary edition has a couple things that weren't duplicated on the Quadrilogy? I still haven't gotten the Quad set because I didn't wanna re-buy the Alien flicks yet (which is sadly the expected norm after countless re-re-releases of seemingly every movie now). Maybe if it comes down in price eventually.

You'd think with NINE discs, the Quadrilogy would contain complete content, and be a one-stop shop for all things Alien. Jeez louise.

p.s. I'm new here.
