Well I've been DJing forever. It's my passion. So I'm huge on audio. I've been mixing for more than 17 years. Working in Chicago night clubs since I was 18.

 I've done most of the Downtown Chicago hot spots, and over the last few years I've made my way to the Chicago suburb clubs. They tend to pay alot better.

Hmm, well ROTS is by far my favorite of the PT series and also the movie that I felt I could do the most justice.

I wanted my first edit to set the standard for the rest of the films that will be done later. I feel that when people see what's been done to the film as a whole they will be really excited for the rest of the movies.

ROTS also ruined the background story of Vader the most for me. Dont get me wrong, TPM and AOTC screwed up Anakin's character pretty bad. But hell in ep 1 he's a kid, and in 2 he's a teenager, so I let that slide a bit.

But in EP3 this is the last chance to build up the backstory for the main villain for the next 3 films. And he's crying right up to the very end. This drives my nuts beyond all belief.

Now for those of us who grew up on the OT, we have to understand that when our childrens chlildren watch these for the first time In order from 1-6. They will have no clue as to how we felt the first time we watched Vader walk onto the screen in ANH. Even before he spoke you knew he was one evil mutha. But now it's like, "Hey,it's the cry baby!"

So really I'm doing this edit first as my attempt to restore Vader some of his dignity.

There are is still alot of details about this edit that I have not yet let out. Major changes that I feel will leave any OT fan with a huge smile across their face. The work will be done, and I just hope everyone can enjoy it as much as I know I will.

Right now I'm working on the red blade and changing the saber handle in the younglings scene. So far I have to say this is gonna look good.

 Yep. I'm going to skip on him lighting it in from of Palpatine, just having the desk open up and it sitting there.

The first reveal will be with the kids.

The reason for me adding the desk shot was everyone was all crazy about, how did he change the saber so fast. It's the only reason I added it.

I cant remember if this has been covered but my mind needs put to rest after watching Spence's edit of ROTS.  Just after the ship breaks in half when Anakin is trying to land, R2 lets out a sequence of beeps that sound like he's saying "uh oh".  They may as well have had a drum riff straight after it to accentuate the punchline.  It nearly made me sick.

Please say you have removed this!

Possible, yes. But I dont think I'll be messing with that aspect. 

That's not bad. I guess I could live with that. But I have to save I'm very partial to my idea of Anakin using 2 sabers when he tries to jump over Obi-Wan, with Obi Wan then retrieving the blue one. What did you think of that idea? Do you think it's technically possible?

Well Erik, I think it would be possible without too much effort. I also think it's a great idea. With that said. The only reason I'm shying away from it is that it would happen very very quick in my version of the cut, as I taken all talking out of that scene untill after Anakin get sliced.

As you can see the amount of time that we see Anakin before he leaps is about 3 seconds. It's also a very bad angle to show him lighting up his blue saber. I'll review any footage that I've taken out of the part. But I'm pretty much sure any shots of Anakin at that point would have him speaking. Which I dont want.

Also if I was to go this route and make it look good, then I would expect a wave of people chiming in with. "If Anakin had 2 sabers on him, why didnt he use them both earlier in the fight?"

I'll still take a stab at this , and I'll post the results when I do.

**update** ok just looked over the footage taken out, there's a good shot in which to light up a second saber, but this shot also only lasts for about 3 seconds. I'll try it with this shot and see what it looks like. I might not get to it tonight tho

As I was typing my reply the brash I was thinking along the same lines , rpvee.  I know a few have mentioned this, but I doubted I'd be able to pull it off.

Ill be watching the scene of Anakin talking to padme before he heads out to Mustafar. Maybe a "hold this for me until I return" shot of him handing her the saber can be worked out.

If it can be done, Ill move onto Obi talking to Padme looking for a good way to have Obi get ahold of it. Maybe she has it in here lap and she's thinking about Anakin toward the end of that scene. After Obi cuts out she looks down again, and the saber is gone. Obi (the sneaky) wan

I do plan on doing all 6 movies to have them flow better as a total story. That will mean making changes to the OT. Maybe not anything groundbreaking. But changes.

And as always, this is not set in stone right now. My mind goes all over the place. Tomorrow I might think of a good way to lock down a idea to have Obi wind up with Anakin's saber before this movie ends. Then nothing needs to change from the OT. 8)

Ok. I think it's time to weight in with my thoughts about how this is going to take place, so that for the most part we can get passed all the wonder of how the red saber from this movie becomes blue in ANH, and how it needs (or does not need) to be explained.

I'm sure this will be debated back and forth still and thats fine. But I prefer a more focused debate. So here's the plan after alittle bit of background. This was the point covered earlier in the thread, and that's the background of the actual saber Luke gets from Obi in ANH.

Using Bingowings points, cause this is the mind set I was in when I decided to go this route.

With the PT as it currently stands I don't think the audience will have any connection to that object.
He didn't have a saber in TPM.
He used one to kill kids in AOTC and it was chopped in half.
He used one to kill kids in ROTS and dropped it when his legs came off.
Another 'epic fail' for Lucas.
It's hardly Excalibur and is should have been.

So the problem is to either go back and make the weapon seem more majestic (impossible).

Or have this weapon removed totaly after Anakin turns to the dark side. (possible, allthough alot of fans will be upset. Seeing as Luke no longer recieves his fathers saber).

So then I watch ANH and ESB. the 2 movies featuring Luke and all the great things he did with his fathers saber.
Let me know if I'm missing anything, seriously.

ANH: recieves the saber from Obi.
1 scene of him training with it.
Nothing else far as I recall.

ESB: Luke uses the saber to cut a hole in the bottom of an AT-AT
Luke uses the saber inside the cave slicing off the arm of a Wampa
Luke uses the saber inside the cave slicing off the head of a vision of Vader.
Faces Vader for the first time, hand is sliced off and Luke looses his fathers saber.
Nothing else far as I recall.

And if i missed something, please remind me.

After taking all of this into consideration. I wonder if the Saber given to Luke really needs to be his fathers? Does it change anything?
Other than Obi lying too Luke one less time about his father.

I have edited the scene of Luke getting the lightsaber from Obi so that there's no mention that its his fathers. It's just a lightsaber.

So now I need to hear how many people think this is movie breaking, And how many people are cool with this?

I have several ways to deal with the saber color changing come ANH, all are still being tossed around atm. Nothing is set in stone right now.

The close up of the saber would not be easy. I would have to zoom everything up so large that it would look quite terrible. I'm still working with this concept tho, so give me alittle time to hopefully work some magic 8)

Further work on the quick saber switch idea, added red lighting to the compartment (credit goes to brash_stryker) and a special tribute to the OT, thanks to the thinking of Killbillme of Fanedit.org. Sound levels need work, also need some work on the lightsaber blade to make it more natural. But enjoy.

OK, sound FX not added yet, still needs alot of work. This is a possible explaination of how Anakin gets his saber. I say this because I had a few ideas of how to do this. Tossing this one up for thoughts.

This idea came after watching a video by Thecutter. In it he mentions palpatines weird hand movments as he sits down. Thinking the red glow would be removed from the saber tho.

Yeah, it will be the last effect to be put in. So I'll be the same way. I'll have to judge it when its complete with darkness and in full motion. If it's too much too soon, I'll just take it back out then 8)

Good ideas everone I'll see what can be done. right now I'm tampering with the window behind palaptine. This shot would be in the dark tho. I was thinking of having the window being blown in right after he lights his saber and attacks. Almost as if Palpatine gathering of the Dark side has done it. It will also sell the lights going out.

Just a test shot on one half of the window.

He is almost Vader at this point and I just can't see Vader being that stroppy.

For sure it will be used Bingo, I'm just trying to make sure that it gets used at the best time. "I am the senate" seems like the best spot. It's not a full blown action shot where it might get lost if you blink.

It also makes perfect sense for him to change at this moment. The anger rising, that fact that he's about to do some major Jedi ass kicking and he's been discovered, so there's no reason to hide now.

Mace responds, then The lights drop out as Palpatine rises.

I tryed changing the "It's treason then" line to "So be it, jedi" reworked to match the tone of "I am the senate". But I dont think it will be done that way in the final version. But it does sound pretty damn cool with the lights off, right before the red saber goes on.
