A couple of weeks ago there was a discussion in the Albums forum about vinyl and CD. I forgot to mention a couple of things in more detail, such as the frequency response of vinyl versus CD. Most masters of records used various equalization techniques to alleviate the poor frequency response of vinyl. CD does not have these limitations of frequency response and other issues such as hiss, popping, crackle, and more. So, in general, well mastered tracks will sound better on CD than on vinyl. The problem is that most tracks are mastered worse on CD than vinyl. This is where the misconception starts. Through a game of telephone, the fact that tracks are worse mastered on CD gets bended to the misconception that vinyl is better at reproducing sound than CD. So, while you can say that you like the way that vinyl sounds better than CD and how you like the experience, you have a problem when you start to get into the objective terriorty when you start to say that vinyl is better than CD.

1000%. It’s more mastering and mixing than actual sound quality. There’s an audible difference between the kinds of mastering between the formats – people aren’t bullshitting when they say vinyl sounds warmer in some way – but, at the end of the day, the best compliment I’ve ever given a standard vinyl pressing to this day is that it sounds as new as a CD.

180 gram vinyl though? That’s for keeps. You have to shell out for that but if it’s a favorite album of yours it’s worth the money.

Credit where credit is due on the Watchmen soundtrack–it certainly made my day hearing the songs with lyrics featured as endquotes between issues in appropriate scenes.

The one thing that sticks out in that film to me is the opening credits. The rest I can take or leave.

My friend bought a sealed copy of The Story of Star Wars yesterday and we spun it at his place. It's crazy how easily I can picture that movie!  I kept looking at his TV expecting to see the film.  It didn't sound so great (don't know if it was the player or a bad pressing), but it was unique listening to the Williams score so lo-fi.  I'm not used to saying that about vinyl, lol.

Also, the narrator calls the Falcon a pirate ship. I'd forgotten that. The original's a sea picture in space. A classic adventure. It's dated for that reason, but I love it nonetheless.

I wanted to know more right away.

I can't say that about the last teasers.  They were all good but didn't inspire curiosity. This does. What happened in only 30 years to make the Rebel Alliance and the Force practically myths?  We're going in at the middle of the conflict--just like in Star Wars.

Officially excited. I happen to enjoy Abrams's films, so even if I don't feel the Star Wars fantasy magic, I'll feel his touch. And I'm damn looking forward to it.

 I've been told they cut him at the start of the Otherworld Tournament filler.  I believe I've heard broadcast rips of him narrating the fight against Cell, so that lines up.  I just wouldn't be able to find any immediate proof.

Hulu hash ad some sort of improvements done to the audio. I'd stick to that service.  It's the blue brick footage, barring Japanese title cards.

Also, I wouldn't call Kei greedy by any means of the word. How would you feel if the only thing people asked you for was free stuff that you spent years hunting down?  Besides, supposedly, he's sending tapes with the broadcast audio to Chris Sabat over at FUNimation. We'll see how that goes down the road.

Off-topic is a moronathon where nobody gets banned.  Frink just likes to mini-mod (in other cases, with good reason!)  Though rather condescending at times, he has reason to be -- we used to get hit with trolls hard.

The show is leagues better in Japanese, if only for the acting. Ride it out, I think you won't regret it.

I'm not Frink, but it bothers me some too and here's my two cents.  It's not the picture that's offensive.  It's the usage of it as a pro-life statement. The avatar in this case is meant to represent the person's beliefs, and therefore, advocate for them.  Though more of a positive reinforcement than some pro-life advocates I've seen - for example, Earth Day pro-life protesters used blown-up pictures of dead fetuses in San Diego, and it was uncomfortable to walk past and out of place at the event - it's still a misplaced emotional appeal.
