Dark Knight Rises - Now that we know the cast
Time

All right, I'll try and explain using examples. But I don't think I've seen it upwards of two years.

-Rachel's death. I get the point of having it in the middle of the film, but the plot thread of the pain this causes Baleman (I'm TMing that) kind of disappears until Caine burns the letter.

-Every single moment in the Penthouse, as I said before, left me asking "is it over yet?" Not in a sense that they're bad scenes, but more that each one felt like it could have been a closing shot.

Sorry for jumping the gun on you there earlier, Warb.

I guess I have a skewed perception because my definitive Batman will always be the Animated Series.

It just felt darned empty.

doesn't seem empty to me.

Instead of stating your opinion as fact maybe you should elaborate as to the depth you see where he does not.

I saw depth in the story myself but it often ended up seemingly convoluted and unnecessary. This is an odd thing to say, but many of the shots looked like they were closing ones for the film - ie essentially most times they did that pan into the Wayne penthouse, I thought "is it finally over?" It's tough to explain, I'm not really a film person. But there were SO many moments where the movie felt like it was supposed to end. And I'm sure it was intentional and meant to help the drama, but to me, it just made the film drag.

That said I'm excited for Rises.

I had to switch to simple text editor to unbold this post. What the fuck?

^I disagree. I like Part 2... I mean it's not as good as the first movie, but it's by no means bad. At least, I didn't think so. It's the same stellar cast, with some really cool future stuff. I'll admit that going back to the 50s was a bit of a cop-out, but I still enjoyed those scenes.

It doesn't have that feel-good nature that part 1 does, though. Every time I feel bad about myself, I say "at least I'm not old George McFly!" Pretty effective actually.

Still miss the ride. My one true BTTF childhood soft spot...

I've yet to see Ghostbusters II and I'm not really sure if I should. The first is a classic, and I really wouldn't mind more of the same - which appears to be the biggest complaint regrading the sequel - but I'll probably cave one day.

My friend's father actually has a list of movies he's never to see. It's not required, of course, but said friend seems ok with following it. His father puts Ghostbusters 2 in the same vein as Rocky V.... I understand the latter at least. For that matter, I'm not sure why BttF pt 3 is on that list.

Bottom line, I find the concept fascinating and I'm probably going to do the same with my kids. haha

The Vaultbreakers Collection - Disney Preservations

Bump. Just curious to see if anyone has taken a stab at color correcting the Sleeping Beauty blu-ray. The quality in of itself is supposed to be phenomenal, but the color pallet not as much. I'd love to see the movie looking as pristine as possible while also maintaining the original color scheme.

The main reason I'd be curious as to this rather than watching the previous DVD is the aspect ratio.

STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW
Time

^It may also be a quality issue. Most Star Wars clips on youtube I can think of are at 360p or so. Adywan's clips, in contrast, usually give us the option to watch in 720 or 1080p according to youtube's definition scale (and thank goodness for that!). Plus, their retroactive copyright sweeps are probably less efficient than whatever system gets new videos right on the spot.

Cameron revises one shot for 3D release of Titanic

I saw a documentary about the history of toy boats once. Turns out there were toy Titanics being made and sold after the sinking. I once almost bought a 1997 toy that was paired with a Titanic book. Flip a switch on the bottom and it breaks up and sinks. IIRC, it was marketed as an educational toy. They fetch a lot on Ebay now.

Oh! I think I got one of those when the traveling Titanic exhibit was in Los Angeles upwards of 8-10 years ago. I didn't know they were rare...

The Anniversary Collection: GOUT's Last Stand - NTSC DVD Set (Work-in-Progress)

It looks good! I like how your color changes seem a bit more subdued than some of the others I've seen; many of them tend to, I think, oversaturate it a bit (whether it's the original look or not). I kind of wish you would do your more recent corrections on an AVCHD as well but I've got a PS3 anyway, so upscaled SD doesn't look so bad.

Saw this in a second run theater, in which the 35mm print looked great. (Save for the CGI which stuck out like a sore thumb.) Much better than any digital presentation around. And what's with the whole, "we shot 5 minutes in IMAX" gag? Just swallow the cost and do the whole thing!

To be fair didn't The Dark Knight do that too?
