Return of the Jedi: Radical Re-Edit (Released)

The use of the Star Tours footage to link Vader and Luke might end up being cut. But I do like the idea of linking the two characters. There are other moments in the edit where I try to show Vader getting into Luke's head, so that moment (poor CGI and all) is telling the audience that although they're worlds away Vader is always with Luke.

I dig the idea, but I think the execution is poor.  Maybe jump cuts like in the final moments of ESB would work better... or were they really quick fades?

Return of the Jedi: Radical Re-Edit (Released)

I flipped through this video to check out what was new effects-wise.  Admittedly, a few things are rough - and that's to be expected when you're pulling from fan films etc.  Plus, you're really early in the editing stages.  If there were any way to improve the CG matte shots on Coruscant I think it would be a lot less anachronistic in relation to the rest of the film; I would love to see it work properly, but right now it stands out too much to me.

I really liked what you did with the Jabba introduction.  It's too the point and by flipping the sequencing of the 3PO and Leia scenes you've managed to make him intimidating right off the bat - and no musical number is definitely a plus.  I wasn't a big fan of the pan-down to Tatooine when Vader tried to reach out to Luke with the force, though - again, anachronistic.  And I don't mean necessarily in terms of the effect itself, I mean the editing.  It feels, for lack of a better term, too modern.  It would have stood out like crazy in 1983.

Also a big fan of how you cut down the 3PO/R2 intro to Jabba's Palace via the deleted scene.  THAT cut felt really natural to me.

tl;dr a little rough as expected at this stage but looking forward to what comes of this.

Nostalgia and Nostalgic Memories
Time

this thread details a lot of my thoughts on nostalgia.  Right now it's tearing me apart and I'm close to trying to deny reality in order to reach that aesthetic resonance thing.  I'll come back with a real nostalgic story or two later.

edit: Anchorhead's right.  I really haven't experienced anything yet.  Just in case anyone was wondering if I ever came to that realization, haha.  It took looking at this really long specific reflection about my life I wrote three years ago.  Even though those moments I discussed still resonate with me to a certain degree, I get that they're all child's play.  And they were from the perspective of a lonely, nostalgic person -- who wanted someone else, a very special person, to know everything about him.  When they basically already did.  But shit means nothing, even now.

Here's hoping he reads that =p

go fuck yourself.  why don't you go out and by yourself an Al Qaeda tee-shirt and ball cap.

I am putting you on ignore.   I am done talking with you.

Taunting him by calling him an Al Qaeda sympathizer like this is a very poor move. I agree that people pick on you man, but it's hard to sympathize when you react like this.

Anyway, here's the thoughts of someone who was SEVEN when 9/11 happened. I get that it was a tragedy. Hell, my aunt worked in the second building (and somehow survived.) The thing that matters now though? That day, nobody was from the South - or the Left Coast - or New England, or whatever. We were all American. Even though this event happened in New York, we felt it all the way in California.

And that patriotic spirit is totally fucked now. We need to still think like that, no matter what kind of tragedy ends up sparking it. Now, I don't mean the Team America attitude of FUCK YEAH. I mean the fact that it was a rude awakening that brought people together.

So in that sense, I won't forget that 9/11 made me an American instead of a Californian. But dwelling on it won't do us any good either.

I leave you with this:

imperialscum: I agree.

Let's face it, guys. The media helps terrorists win.

Look at how fearful the USA has become post-9/11. With the Patriot Act, TSA bullshit, ..., the list goes on and on. I have no doubt that all of the attention by the media played a significant part in easing the rise of the 2002-present USA Security Theater.

If the goal of terrorism is to transform the target into a terrorized fearful society, then Al-Qaeda won back in 2001.

This is an interesting view. Can't say I entirely agree but this warrants more discussion.
