anyone check out this release of FOTR on tehparadox? This guy's retimed releases are intriguing to say the least. He has quite a few others as the links show... I'm interested in the regraded final cut of Blade Runner myself.
For some reason I can be optimistic about the new movies but these spinoffs just always leave me either nervous or indifferent. This is the former, but with the screenwriter from X-Men First Class working on it maybe it could be good.
While I would generally agree a weekend night is a very different situation. Some people prefer to take their kids out with them rather than hire babysitters... and I'd understand that if they were just out eating. But what the hell were they doing in the bar section? Aren't the servers not even allowed to put them there?

I must admit your first pass had me skeptical but knocking down the contrast has really improved this IMO. Looking forward to giving it a look whenever it gets out there.

What interests me about these caps is that shot seems to match the corresponding Puggo Grande version quite a bit in terms of color. I might be looking for that kind of similarity, though.

You know this is actually a good point. Somewhat related: when I first saw Star Wars in widescreen I felt its age for the first time. The editing on the P&S SE tapes definitely felt more dynamic and modern thanks to camera pans and sometimes quicker cuts. Even before I was an OUT purist I preferred that 70s vibe I got out of the widescreen version.
For the record, SW is the reason I know anything about film, OAR etc. I blame all of you guys :P
I actually really like it. It reminds me of the Saul Bass-designed logo WB had in the 70s. I could do without the beeping noises, though.

Also: cartridge batteries fail eventually and not everyone has the know-how/patience to fix that. I know every time I take something apart it has a snowball's chance in hell of working again.

That happened on my SP. The whole thing died eventually.
Man, I went through a ton of those. My platinum-onyx color one got water damaged (when it was in a backpack) on a log ride, and the other one I dropped. It's weird though, because my GBC is still going strong. The speaker is weak, but that's what headphone ports are for.
My DS lasted a long time, though.
You can get through all of it (so far) in an hour. I can't wait for more.
