Disney's Beauty and the Beast [spoRv] BD-25 (Released)
Time

It's at about 4 seconds. The color of his fur is all over the place, but strangely evens out right before he turns around. It looked like compression to me, but I don't have the best eye for these things; so, if this isn't macroblocking but something I'm imagining, I do apologize for causing any worry. For the record I'm also just on an uncalibrated macbook pro monitor.

My dilemma is I don't know what I can offer in terms of comments as I have no expertise in this area whatsoever.

This latest sample looks good to me - I'd definitely be more than satisfied if the final product looked like this. I didn't notice any color bleeding, and what haloing I saw was minimal. My only issue was there appeared to be a fair amount of macroblocking, but I chalked it up to being a low-res clip.

The blue bricks are good enough. I have pretty low standards for a cartoon from the cheapest animation studio still around.

As long as it's uncut and 4:3 I'm satisfied. Strangest thing to me is when streaming the show on their website the sources seem to be completely different depending on what language you choose! Cropping is equal, but the dub video track looks far - far - superior. If you watch the sub, the colors (especially red, which is already a problem with their masters) bleed like crazy and the blacks get even more crushed. I have no possible explanation for this, and my attempts to take screenshots seem to be a lost cause.

Unlike Z, FUNimation never received film masters for that show. The blue bricks are cleaned up digibeta masters - with mixed success. They're grain-scrubbed, which results in a bit of blurriness, but in some cases it does look better than their two-disc sets from beforehand (if you're not a stickler about the Japanese title cards.)

In fact I think FUNimation had to request film for Z, I'm pretty sure their originalsingles came from tapes too...

'Raiders of the Lost Ark' - bluray and colour timing changes (Released)
Time

dvdmike, perhaps you'd like kk650's regraded ROTLA? You can find it over at tehparadox. IMO it's a subtle job that gives a good balance between the Blu's warmer pallet and the WOWOW version without going to either extreme. In fact, it's still pretty warm - but the sky in Egypt is back to being blue.

The logic that the movie was modified to resemble Skull is flawed, as that movie was timed to match raiders in the first place. This isn't a retroactive claim -- they made it back when the film was first released. If it were a false justification, you'd expect a comment like that to come in hindsight only (ie, right after the Blus came out.) Also, both You_Too and Harmy have publicly praised the Raiders timing (though you'll have to read through for a bit, You_Too takes his time with the verdict.) Given their extensive work on Star Wars, a film from around the same time, I'm inclined to agree with them. Granted, they still have problems with it, but they prefer it to the DVDs.

Random Thoughts

Right now I don't feel like reading the past posts on Thanksgiving, but I'll throw in my two cents anyway.

The onset of the Christmas season coming earlier and earlier has always bothered me, but at the same time... Thanksgiving is a sham of a holiday and I'm kind of glad its importance is diminishing little by little. Conversely, I've never had to work retail on the day of - so I probably don't have proper perspective on whether this is okay or not. I love my turkey day enough that I'd hate working it.

Carrie Fisher interview.

Maybe it's because I've been on board since the beginning and that's how she was introduced to me as a character as well as an actress, but I cannot reconcile who she was back then with who she is now. It's a transformation I simply cannot wrap my head around.

Yep I agree totally, you could have believed her gradual aging about 10 years ago, but since then, I don't know what happened to her......but that interview.... she is HOT!!

J

Agreed!

To be fair, I think she's looking healthier than she did only 3-4 years ago. Carrie wasn't looking too good on Wishful Drinking.

I suppose given that McClory is dead that might now be a possibility. I always liked Telly Savalas best as Blofeld, but to be fair there really isn't much to compare him to as the other times he functions more as a caricature or stereotype rather than an actual threat.

Given the more realistic nature of the Craig films I'm going to guess SPECTRE isn't in the plans for now... oh well, one can hope we get serious villains nonetheless. I rather liked Javier Bardem's character in Skyfall and think we have a chance of getting compelling villains like him without the personal connections that tied him down (re: M revenge plot.)

STAR WARS: REBELS (animated tv series) - a general discussion thread
Time

Gotta remember, guys: we're not the target audience here. Ignoring the fact that this series draws heavily from the prequels, Star Wars as a whole is, and always has been, primarily for kids. Some pieces of the puzzle just pander to that demographic more than others.

I can tell you I'd have thought this was cool when I was eight.

How can you hate post-TOS Klingons? DS9 and TNG took a thinly-veiled allegory for the cold war and basically turned them into Tolkein dwarves with a warriors' culture.

Greenie, not sure if serious, but in case you are: femnazi is a derogatory term for particularly gung-ho feminists. It varies as to what one's definition of the term is but many draw the line at "men are complete pigs and there's no exception" types.
