team negative1 - star wars 1977 - 35mm theatrical version (Released)
Time

Time to play Unpopular Opinions with Bkev, everyone!

These look significantly worse than the GOUT as-is.  That purple tint puts the even the blu-rays to shame.  Is this from your re-scan, or the first pass?  I know I've seen better-looking shots of the Tantive from one of your prints...

edit: question-- how many prints are you working with right now?

something I always wondered about the PT
Time

Off the top of my head: a possible in-universe explanation is that Luke very rarely went to Mos Eisley, if at all, and probably spent most of his time at the homestead.  If that's his frame of reference, it makes sense that he would find Tatooine a dull old rock.  Plus, he's a law-abiding do-gooder.  He has no interest in the criminal dealings on the planet.  Also, the establishing shot of Mos Eisley where Obi-Wan gives a bit of exposition ("you will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy" as to the kind of place they're about to enter implies that Luke is unfamiliar with it.  That, of course, ignores the fact that the line is there more for our sake as a precursor to the shenanigans we find in the cantina.

But that's putting too much thought into it for my tastes.  I simply offered this as a possible explanation.

Video Games - a general discussion thread

I've been playing the Zelda games for n64 (ocarina of time and majoras mask) on the pc connected to my hdtv with an hdmi cable, rendering all graphics at 1080P and with a custom texture pack that replaces low res graphics (which already look better upscaled) with hi res textures, and the pack is over 20 times the size of the entire game, it's a whole new experience, and it looks beautiful.

Late response.  Personally, I prefer the original upscaled textures to any texture pack.  It helps that the video plugin I use can make the games native widescreen (with varying success, but it's perfect with Zelda.)  It doesn't stretch the picture, it actually opens it up.  If the plugins that support texture packs can do this I haven't found a way yet.

Guess we'll see soon enough if the Weisman curse holds true.  He lost Gargoyles at season 3 (coincidentally, the show was canceled after said third season), and two much beloved cartoons he's helmed - Spectacular Spider-Man and Young Justice - were prematurely canceled.

What curse? He's hardly the only showrunner to get screwed over by the suits in charge.

Probably a ratings. It won't happen anytime soon because it's Star Wars.

For the record I can assure you it wasn't ratings with Young Justice.  It's CN's current business model.  Action shows don't sell toys the way they used to, apparently...

As for Spectacular Spider-Man, that one probably was ratings.  However, the Marvel-Disney deal really killed it when Marvel gave over all animation rights.

Heard from Biff!  I have permission to reveal his true identity, but I thought it would be more fun to have everyone guess.

First to get it right gets my Jetrell Fo internet voodoo doll.

Go!

A smidge funny but it looks like you're the only one that wants it ...... LOL.

Don't you just hate it when things like this back fire?

Which is why there have been so many guesses... you know you really should read these threads before you aimlessly attack Frink.

I've always said it's either Rob or Stinky.

Actually going to side with mrebo on this.  Sometimes, being put under a community label leads to people assuming I embody negative stereotypes in the homosexual "community" that I deplore.

That's not to say I don't support people who use such labeling as a way of advocacy, but there are many drawbacks to it too - especially when it's forced on you.

off-topic: Reegar, I had an avatar of Spike a couple of years back and didn't think anyone got it.  Glad to see someone gets my user tagline.

I won't say I don't find it strange, but - to coin a phrase from the Man of the Year - who am I to judge?  Especially when I'm already gay.

Did you just come out?  Or are you saying the Pope is gay?

Coming out.  I've never brought it up because it was never pertinent to a topic that interested me.  I also have a bit of the Victorian sensibilities in me, I like to keep sexual jazz private.

As for EyeShotFirst: I get it... I think.  You're just saying it's not your concern because it's not your issue right?

Bring Back Ric!

Jetrell, I have no beef with you but you're making it very hard to come to your defense.  You're attacking Frink, but seem to be beating around the bush in order to appear in the right. For instance:

1. he did not make the molestation joke
2. he has yet to comment on it
3. you appear to have attacked him, specifically, for it, and - most importantly -
4. you have yet to answer when Ric was a problem.

You've made the same mistake of attributing Frink to jokes he did not make in on-topic threads, and specifically ignored the fact that he's usually very quick to admit when he's made a mistake.

I don't really know why I care, you're just going to ignore my post anyway.

That wouldn't be possible now.  People go into the theater expecting HD CGI realism. If it isn't Avatar, Matrix, Transformers, or a Marvel-based comic action piece, it doesn't land at the level Star Wars circa 1977 did.

Yet these films doesn't have that something special as Star Wars has. That is why they were popular for a year and then forgotten.

You mean limited competition in the toy market and unbelivable merchandise out the wazoo, with a holiday special to boot?

I'm not denying the lasting appeal of Star Wars -- hell, I wouldn't be here if I did -- but at least part of that was manufactured.

You know, as bigoted as I find any decrying of homosexuality, I appreciate how civil everyone is for the most part.  But we could never be friends IRL if that's how you all feel.  I get the feeling many would be far less articulate and a little quicker to judge in person.  Thank you to Frink for bothering to do what I don't feel is worth my time.
