The issue is? This mono mix's quality is embarassing. There's hissing in the background through the whole thing; it sounds like it was a really early vinyl-to-CD transfer, with a bad noise filter. The strange part is, this new mono remaster is from 2006 while the stereo tracks date to 2000. However, the stereo tracks are supposedly HDCD, so... I don't know what to say.

Well, the album was actually released in stereo, it pioneered stereo sound, it was always intended to be listened to in stereo, that's the novelty of it

Octorox, you're wrong. Brian Wilson was the sound mixer, and he mixed in mono.  The first version of it in TRUE stereo was in '99.  Previous "stereo" releases were what is I believe called duophonic, or a simple splitting of certain audio channels, not done by the original audio mixers.

Is laserdisc better than VHS?
Time

VHS was inferior to LaserDisc, enough said about that.  As for the pros of VHS:
-Cheaper
-Much more easily accessible, seen in more stores
-Simpler in operation

Laserdisc pros (some of these I may pull out of my ass, please PLEASE correct me):
-Analog encode, like a record; meaning no compression.
-Less chance of wearing it out, however a chance they could warp.
-Multiple audio tracks

Laserdisc was never really "put out there" though, and was a niche machine for videophiles only.  In Japan, the machine was popular though.  Many anime got very good Laserdisc releases, including occasionally in the US here (I recall Tenchi Muyo being available in the format).  If anything, laserdiscs were just inconvenient; the size of vinyl records, which made it less easy to store.

I hope my limited knowledge is of some use!

Tip, which newest series do you mean?  Shin Tenchi Muyo (the one with the flat-out bizarre animation) or the just recently released OVA 3?  Because, typically, STM is the one hated.

Anyway, yeah, if you want the manga look for the old editions - the ones either huge, or the ones with the logo that doesn't say "VIZ media".  The ones with the latter have edits to the art and dialogue, something that fans like myself despise.

OHHH!  That'd turn off ANYONE from DBZ.  Let me count the edits of this crapfest that was the Saban/FUNi team dub...

-blood to scratches
-no nudity
-dumb jokes to avoid death "they blew up the cargo robot!" "good thing it was a Sunday, otherwise all the people at that office would be dead!"
-the word "die" not accepted, instead using "next dimension"
-jokes that WEREN'T used to avoid death, that were dumb.
-seriously, they put a body on a decapitated head -  they were so bad at those edits, you could see the shadow from the head.

here's a fun video that shows a few of the edits: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_AiUaPRjmb4
