Ask the member of the Latin Rite of the Roman Catholic Church AKA Interrogate the Catholic ;)
Time

As a nonpracticing, cultural Catholic, I'm under the impression that the official stance of the church actually encourages a reading of the Old Testament allegorically rather than literally; at least, that's what I've learned at my more liberal-leaning religious courses I've taken at a Catholic university.

I'm glad to see Pope Francis reaffirming this, though. Problem with such a large institution, religious or not, is that not everyone's always in the loop about these sorts of things. I imagine there are plenty of Catholics who mistakenly believe in full-on Creationism.

Add me to the list that prefers the look of Hunchback as seen on WOWOW. Something about the BR just seems dull to me, and it's not just the lack of grain. Can't say the same for the DVD, though; the DVD seems like it's riddled with edge enhancement.

Wow, I think Lady & the Tramp might look the worst out of all Disney's reduxes of their older films. Honest to goodness looks like a different film.

RicOlie, if I didn't know you were a "hate the sin, love the sinner" type, I'd actually agree with you. When I was a kid I never understood why people thought it was silly that I liked rainbows -- why not like all the colors together? However I have the sneaking suspicion that you only care because it's a gay issue.

That's pretty silly that someone thought that was a political statement from a kindergardener, though.

The people who think this early renewal is silly obviously haven't been watching the Marvel movies ;) same business model, different medium. While I question its validity on the whole -- kind of cheapens the movies especially, and makes me feel like I'm paying for a part rather than a whole and being suckered -- I'm not complaining if it gives me more Star Wars!

Going to watch the premiere soon and give my (abbreviated) thoughts.

Well, I mean, the idea is that she's exploring the problem of women in gaming. That's great. Frankly I think there really is a problem. The issue is, she's doing things like Ms. Male for instance. OK, Ms Pac-Man is a female version of her male counterpart. So what? That was Namco/Midway modifying a HACK of that game to fit the Pac-Man license. I think what she means by that is that these are very basic tropes Sarkeesian is exploring and that she could probably be looking at less overt instances of sexism and actually challenging her viewers.

Han and Motti claim that The Force never existed, but never do they claim that the Jedi never existed.

Most people today don't believe in Zeus, but they don't deny that the Greeks existed.

This is actually a really good point. I'd like to see them address how the Empire drew up such propaganda to the point where it's a common belief in the main star systems, if the show writers thought this out.

I am a little worried about there being too much Jedi focus, though. Here's hoping Ezra's training comes in the form of experience on-the-job rather than formal segments of seeing how he learns.

Been playing FFVII for the first time seriously. I'm enjoying it; it usually takes a lot for an RPG to sustain my attention and, so far, it's doing its job. Of course, this being 2014, I know most of the plot details -- but there's nothing wrong with being taken along for the ride.

Cloud is a much more dynamic character than all the spin-offs and fans would have you believe. Especially Advent Children. Screw that movie.

I'm tangentially following the #Gamergate crap on the net right now.

I dont say anything, but I'm going to explode if I don't let off some steam.

The logical fallacy commonly called CHERRY PICKING does not mean simply selecting data that proves your point. Saying "I got death threats, look at all these horrible death threats" is NOT cherry picking.

Cherry Picking means to selecting data that proves your point and ignoring data, usually a lot of data, that is contradictory. The claim of cherry picking doesn't even make sense rhetorically.

The statement "Threats of violence and rape are the only messages on twitter" would be a claim that would be supported by a cherry picking tactic.

Watching these assholes, I'm less upset by them being assholes, and more upset by their abuse of academic language.

The Feminist Frequency lady uses extremely academic style language 90% of the time, but the dudes who try to tear her down try to use it, and it's like a monkey trying to build a rocketship after looking at a drawing of one. There might be certain similarities, but it doesn't fly.

The most feminist friend I have can't stand Anita Sarkeesian. She thinks Anita has a tendency to cherry-pick her evidence and focuses on too menial menial of issues for the amount of funding she received; and this is coming from someone who constantly complains about objectification of women in media.

I'd also like to point out that she decided to bring to the forefront that she received bomb threats when receiving an award in San Francisco -- now. The threat, and the news, was from back in March. I'm not condoning those actions in any way, shape, or form, but she seems to like playing the victim a little bit.

Am I for Gamergate? Not at all. It has just led to more unnecessary harassment of both her and Zoe Quinn (even if Quinn is a pathological liar.) However, it's worth pointing out that both sides are giving each other a bad name. Just as every female gamer isn't a "hipster with a cultural studies degree" as some might define Sarkeesian, so is every male gamer not a neckbearded fedora-wearing crusader.

This sucks as a whole and makes me ashamed to be interested in that culture.

ATTENTION ALL UK PEOPLE: How will/would you vote in the referendum?
Time

It was a referendum. I like the idea of a direct decision by the people, but I don't consider this a real vote since they had yet to establish any guidelines as to what an independent Scotland really means. That would be like voting to decriminalize medical marijuana on a federal level without setting up a new standard that each state would have to abide by when giving prescriptions.

The real problem is, now that this has been put to a vote, the people that wouldn't have cared before do. And, as a result, the minority has now become a much larger voice -- hence the pretty damn close vote. They're now officially marginalized in a way they weren't before. Should've put it to a real vote and set some damn guidelines as to what independence would mean before this referendum.

That said, obligatory Simpsons jokes.

I like TDKR as an alternate universe story about an aged Earth-One Batman who gets a little mean in his later years. As an influence on the mainstream comics or films, though? I can't stand it.

That's pretty well said, though I wouldn't even say it needs to be Earth-One Batman (then again, I'm not really into canon classifying period.) It's a neat alternative interpretation and works as a one-off, but when a canon is created around it -- ie, All-Star B&R -- it fails.

blah blah blah.

You're probably the kind of person who complained about how in The Dark Knight, Heath Ledger's Joker clearly wearing make-up - rather than, say, like in the comics where his skin was bleached by acid. Granted, if you look back a few years here, so was I. But losing all interest because of guns on the batmobile? Yeesh. As was said above, both the '89 film and the Tumbler featured in the Nolan films had them too. Maybe not as front-and-center, but they were there.

I both agree with SilverWook and Duracell. The movie's a product of its times, nobody took critical discussion on these subjects seriously back then - neither in the fifties, nor the seventies (by comparison to today, at least.)

At the same time, I'd question anyone's grasp on reality if they took that movie seriously enough to follow Sandy's ultimate decision.
