have you considered using ABC's sound salvage as a source?

I have, and I figured they were the same as I was doing, taking the tracks from the anthology and mixing them with the SE's?

I think your remastering goal is different than ABC's though. I don't think he tried to take Return of the Jedi and make it sound more like a standard 80s score.

If anybody is feeling flush enough to buy this and send it over, I'd transfer it to high-res like the others, and give the owner a couple DVDs (and send the LP back, of course!) containing all the existing transfers by way of thanks.

7FN.

Dude I'm not done listening to even the first disc of your release yet, but I am on board. If I could have the seller send it directly to wherever you are I'll do it, too. I'd wanna have it back at the end of the process though

Alright guys, everybody that already has this set, and people who could not access the links pay attention!

I had to redo this set a bit, some of the SE cues were done a bit differently when I first started this set, than when I got close to the end, I have redone those now.

I have also EQ'ed a few cues that I forgot to EQ (Jedi Rocks and Jabba's Sail Barge Part 1)

Also, In the previous version, there was an overlay in the SE that was not present in the Anthology track, which I used, so that has been restored.

the new links will probably go up on the Firey Media desk.

I'm glad my instinct not to share paid off then...looking fwd to the needs versions. have you considered, btw, using abcs sound salvage as a source?

(I do wonder, though, how hard it would be to find the theatrical 97 SE prints)

It wasn't that long ago.  I have some strips of the 35mm SE Jedi, about 5 frames per strip.  Here are some scans of some of the frames that might be useful to someone as a reference...

Wow dude...those look absolutely brilliant! There is hope yet, eh?

Yeah dude, that is just beyond awesome. If I had to guess, maybe mverta could beat that, but otherwise that is just unreal. That's like, the size of the Bryant Park screen, or maybe biger. Building something like that is on my list, someday...

Star Wars 1977 70mm sound mix recreation [stereo and 5.1 versions now available] (Released)

...here's another comparison file between the 70mm and the 2004 mix, in which I highlighted some of the worst-sounding parts of the latter in order to show just how drastic the degradation really is.  (I made this for a friend who is looking forward to seeing original version of the movie again for the first time in many years.)  Be sure to note the huge swell of static and distortion when the Death Star explodes; that's always good for a laugh.

Everyone needs to listen to this. Just in case you think there's nothing to this or that you can't hear the difference. The 2004 mix is just gratingly awful and artificial and compressed...typical of much of pop music of the last 20 years. Fuck that shit I say! I salute you hairy...wow.

Oh my god!!! Getting a verbal thumbs-up from Simon Pegg regarding something Star Wars is like being knighted!

Well deserved, Harmy :)

And f'real, not any of that 'knighted without the title 'sir'' crap. Kudos dude! I'm excited to see what'll happen next! Could be some *serious* play in the media.

Magical things happen on dear ol' Bilbo's birfday...

1) I have a "raw" capture of the Japan S.E. LD's, second pressing Black Box...the ones that changed the artwork for the S.E. (same artwork as the VCD's).

Each side of the LD for each movie was burnt separately to a single layer DVD.  Getting rid of the burnt in subs (as they are in the black borders) would be easy for our video masters here.  We would need the in-movie subs (Greedo & Jabba) stuff.

2) I have copies of the DTS CD-roms of the theatrical audio for the S.E..  At this point, the progress has been slow due to busy schedules and normal lives.

3) The 5.1 ac3 files for the S.E. are on my HD as well.

1) Oooh goody. So then work to overlay this and GKar and match the colors? Do we know if the LD colors more or less match theatrical?

2) But not technical difficulties? OK then. Awesome.

3) Awesome squared

LOL, so I just looked back at the other thread and it seems like you know your crap already; e.g. I'm gonna stop talking now. I had forgotten about LeeThorogood's caps, which I dled ages ago but never got around to actually watching. (Need to learn to do the PAL >> NTSC conversion for it to be tolerable to my ears.)

I would definitely recommend my speakers to anybody looking for a bargain...

The bargain is back for stateside readers:

http://slickdeals.net/permadeal/80274/newegg-pioneer-speakers-spbs21lr-bookshelf-loudspeakers-pair-50-spc21-center-channel-speaker-50-spfs51lr-floorstanding-speakers-pair-120-sw8-100w-powered-subwoofer

$345 for a 7.1, including floorstanding fronts and an 8" sub. Better than any cheapass HTiB or Bose nonsense. The sub is not really great for movies but does a good job with music; may want to save up and get a better one.

the thing is that probably only recent movies

have a native 7.1 soundtrack.. and unless you

have an awesome receiver that can split the

5.1->7.1 or convert it, you really can't take

advantage of it..

right, right - when you do get those, it sounds awesome, but in general, unless you have an amp that'll matrix the source for you, then meh, and if the space isn't *that* big then 7.1 is overkill. and in a small bedroom, of course it makes no sense to have even a 5.1 setup. it's probably worth putting together a solid 2.0 by hunting for cheap, old ampsand some nice speakers off slickdeals though. could even go for 2.1 if you get an amp with a sub out, like a TCA Gizmo (hard to found nowadays) but if space is an issue, you could easily live without this.
