- What was the "fatal flaw" of the Prequels if you think they sucked? (aka. Let's take a break from hating on the blu-rays)

Nice to see the Blu Ray set only has two stars on Amazon.com.
Think it'll hurt sales at all?
If the old DVDs are actually going out of print, then not likely, at least not in the long term. People need to get their fix somehow, and not enough of them know about this site, the spleen &c.
Hmm. I guess these would be nice to fix? But these continuity errors never bothered me. I suppose as long as we have the original, error-filled ones I wouldn't care if he fixed them.
Wait, there was a Season 5???
Quick question about WookieeGroomer's 1080p. I finally got the first part unpacked, and it seems they replaced the Fox Fanfare and Star Wars Theme from the original with alternate takes or some newer recording of each. This I suppose was done for the HD broadcast only? Because it ain't on my 2006 DVDs. Jus' sayin'.
Meanwhile. I watched Harmy's 'Star Wars' DE again last night. Pure magic, guys - in case people still have not seen it, it's on the spleen, along with the rest of his DE's, d_j's V3, and much more. PM for invites (d_j and definitely walkingdork have also got some)

Does anyone remember the clonewars cartoon? Not the new cgi one but the hand drawn one that came out before revenge of the sith? THAT is how the PT should have been. It actually showed a likeable anakin, a believable relationship between him and padme, and a story that was engaging and exciting.
It was basically an obvious tie-in, but that says something when the tie in is more emotionally believable than the actual product. The other thing the Genndy Clone Wars cartoon had was good direction. Yep it was engaging and fun to watch. I agree with the earlier comments about the suckitude of Lucas directing and writing and everything else. Heck, I agree with pretty much all of the comments already made. No fatal flaw singular, fatal flawS abound in the PT.
Yup. It's quite sad that Genndy's Star Wars had more character depth and emotional maturity than Lucas'. (Not to mention pure style.) The former is now, of course, out-of-print. Anyone seeing a trend here? No?
Mmm, maybe the action scenes were easier to track in Stackpole, but I found the action in Allston to be more interesting anyway? Dogfighting doesn't interest me as much as solid characterization and dialogue in this class of books, and Allston definitely does those better; every character in Stackpole's books sounds extremely similar and way, way too cerebral and in control (though he gets marginally better at this in the third and fourth books).
Is the NJO that bad? Is it not worth even starting? I tried to read Jedi Search a few months ago, and it was god-awful, piss-poor writing that I really, really don't wanna put myself through. If NJO is the same, I will not bother.
Who tf is San Hill??? It just proves my point. But then, I don't remember most of what happened in AOTC
lol, i essentially restated rlm's most pertinent point, i think. the man wasn't always right though - I don't think Qui-Gon was quite as forgettable, stupid or immoral as they try to make him out to be.
Horrible characters. Specifically, a terribly-written enemy. Over-reliance on CGI for characters that could well have been human and thus at least somewhat relatable? Why do all the enemies have to be weird racist aliens whose motivations are unclear???
Splinter was boring. Heck all the old novelizations don't really do it for me, but if it works for you it work. Nothing has come close to Thrawn yet for me. Reading the X-Wing books now, which get progressively better. I think Allston is also clearly a better writer than Stackpole, and neither of them touch Zahn

I think I'm just going to read the novelizations from now on or listen to the radio drama's. The brain's resolution is unlimited.
LOL. The Ep III novelization is also actually a pretty well-written piece of work
LOL. Acquiring Wookieegroomer's 1080p simply to have a record of the 2004 in high quality (broke down and bought the GOUT DVDs at $10 a pop at Best Buy a few years ago). Thank the stars for DJ, Harmy, Ady, ABC, puggo, and all the rest for keeping this piece of classic cinema alive
Very amused and encouraged at the huge spike in seeders for the V3 over at the spleen.
Harmy, thanks a lot for all your hard work!
Anybody who's interested and doesn't want to deal with MU, I am now seeding this at the spleen.
The art of Harmy improves with age
LOL I thought harmy found the humdinger first?
It's a matter of finding the right PGC (= ProGram Chain) on the DVD. Should be easy enough using DVD Decrypter
Sweet D_J. I'm holding off since I just saw all these films in theaters and can make due with the DVDs, but there's only so long I can contain myself :)

It looks like for the BluRay release of the extended editions, PJ tweaked the colors a bit for Fellowship of the Ring. The result is a very minor green shift that ultimately isn't obviously detectable, according to. The idea behind the shift was to get the color grading in line with the next two films, by the end of which they had far greater experience doing this. I saw Fellowship Extended in theaters three weeks ago, and didn't notice any huge change. Anybody who has the set here wanna comment?
Take a looksie here:
http://mediadecoder.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/07/03/studying-how-star-wars-mined-history/?ref=business
"The events in “Star Wars,” the opening credits reveal, happened “a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.” But did similar events happen before?
That is the question posed by “Star Wars and History,” a book planned for 2013 by the publisher John Wiley & Sons. In an e-mail posted in June, Nancy Reagin, a history professor at Pace University, and Janice Liedl, an associate professor of history at Laurentian University in Ontario, asked their peers to submit essays that explore the parallels between world history and Star Wars history."
It is officially sanctioned by Lucasfilm, though, and much of it will be about mining "Lucas’s notes and input about what patterns of history actually did go into Star Wars or influence his thinking." I expect it will be chock full of propaganda as a result...
Oh, I guess I misunderstood; I thought he was giving you the source he used for V3.
LOL great choice! My break from SW is coming in the form of "A Dance With Dragons"
And yeah, the V3 DVDs look great - thanks DJ! not everybody has a Bluray player yet - even on Plasma HDTVs. Old CRTs and LCD HDTVs do even better (and I think this beats the GOUT on the former).
Wow. Those covers are the only ones I've ever been tempted to actually print out! Time to get some glossy paper and someone with an inkjet printer
Looking at DJ's thread, I feel like the ideal (short of an official release or 35mm transfer) would be some combination of his ProjectBlu with what you've already accomplished here, Harmy. Is that gonna be your next project after you're done revising Star Wars and releasing Return of the Jedi?
