Harmy,

So excited to hear of the pending release. Did the above plan work out, or did you end up having to use the old h_h audio? I combed back through, and wasn't able to find an answer between here and there. Either way, thanks a ton.

The audio is the latest h_h; see the other thread as well as the first post above. The original h_h was never made available in 640kbps AC3 form, to my knowledge.

OK, little change of plans, It's 2am here, I'm really tired and need to go to bed now. I can't even face the muxing and packaging and stuff right now (it'll probably take at least an hour too), so it'll just have to wait 'till morning (you know what with all the sand people around). I'll set an alarm to get up in two hours, to hopefully start the download of h_h's audio, so that it's done in the morning and I can start muxing right away. I should definitely be able to have it uploaded  by the 28th anyway but I wanted to have it on the 26th, because then there are those two days reserved for my uploaders, so in a sense it will still get released on my birthday but the general public release may be moved to the 29th or 30th.

Your troops are at the ready!

I'm not taking a breather at all, I'm studying for my final exams that take place on the 5th September and I definitely don't plan to start any work until after that :-)

And I don't really need to find bonus content as much as create it :-)

Here's the plan for the BD:

Animated Menu (similar to the sample I posted some time ago)

Same video for the main feature as the MKV

All the same soundtracks and subtitles as the MKV but the original three English mixes in lossless and maybe the 93 mix as well and maybe some of the other AC3s in higher bitrate.

A short making of video (HD)

A trailer (HD)

The v1.0 comparison gallery (the one on picasaweb)

New comparison gallery (comparing SE, GOUT, v1.0 and v2.0)

A video comparison of the despecialized shots (1080p) (comparing SE, GOUT, v1.0 and v2.0 - the above gallery will comprise of screenshots from this video)

At least one easter egg (I have something really fun in mind, though I could use help of someone with musical talent)

I'm open to other suggestions of course but I can't promise anything.

As you can see, it will take some time to finish the BD but it should be worth the wait :-)

Sweet! Of course I won't be waiting till then to watch the 2.0, but the BD is gonna be totally epic!

so dumb question, what is the difference between mkv and AVCHD?  Excuse my noobiness

Two different container formats. AVCHD is essentially a stripped-down Bluray that can fit on DVD; the container was originally created for digicams to record HD video directly to DVDs I believe. MKV = Matroska Video (like the dolls). An advanced container format typically used across teh Interwebs for all manner of HD content. The AVCHD will likely be more compatible with some Bluray players, and the MKV will have more audio tracks, a higher bitrate, and slightly easier playback on PCs via VLC/MPC (imho better seeking than the avchd's mt2s file)

Originally said, 'The AVCHD will likely be more compatible with some Blurays." I meant, with some Bluray players, not with the the BD spec; the video inside in the MKV is already spec compliant, as Harmy noted below. Wasn't trying to say anything different.

At any rate, I'll upload all the original mixes (AC3 first, lossless later), once I've had a chance to look at the mono mix and see exactly how much level reduction is needed to match it to the other tracks.

And then whoever is interested in muxing for themselves should pm you for the links?

Harmy,

on the DVD version of Star Wars:DeSpec, the whites while onboard the Blockade Runner seem rather hard and with a bit of a yellowish tint (at least in comparison to GOUT and to Adywan's Revisited)

Are you redoing overall color correction with your newer versions, or are you mostly doing tweaks? I really would love it if you made the whites softer during those scenes.

He has retimed practically every shot to ressemble the colors on an IB technicolor print - basically a print from the 70s that has not faded and has given us a very faithful look at what the film looked like when it first came out. Keep that in mind when you watch 2.0 and you feel like it's pushed a bit green or a bit too blue in certain shots.

That's how it looked.

mkay.

I was just saying that such as in this comparison, I thought the whites needed less yellow and to be softer.

LOL dude, I know you mean well but I think it's clear that you haven't really read this thread? There have been four workprints of 2.0 released to date, and none of them have colors remotely close to the 1.0, much less like Chewtobacca's DVD5 conversion of it (which I admittedly have not seen, and shouldn't affect colors in theory). The colors have been slaved over - you should see the discussion about the Ben meets Luke scene and Falcon lightsaber colors; they're instructive. The results truly are like night and day.

If it bothers you so much...the Tantive IV is now much whiter than in the above screen of the 1.0 DVD. So rest easy :)

Seeing how it would be quite a shame for the new 5.1 not to be included when I'm so close to finishing it, I humbly request one week in which to finalize it before any uploads of this are made.  I can safely promise that it will be completely done by then.  ;)

This deal is getting better all the time!

OK, fixed the shots I wanted, so unless someone posts more comments tomorrow, I'll start rendering the lossless avi in the evening. That will take at least two days to render. Then I want to watch it, just to make sure everything is ok and if it is, I'll start encoding the video for the MKV. That will take a few days too but if all goes as planned, you could all be downloading this in a week :-)

YES! This is really happening! Break out the champagne! Or more likely the cheap beer! Exclamation points!!!! :)

It looks like you can't download from ulozto as a free user anymore :-(

Well it says "server overload" so it will probably work later but yeah, uloz.to is getting shittier an shittier. I think I'll look into setting up a torrent for the release of the final version. I can do that now that I'm at home for the holiday but I may need some help :-)

It's a trivial issue but I'll gladly help out if you need it, especially if you're looking at the spleen, and will of course help seed for at least the first month.
