Skyfall has just started on ITV HD in the UK and it's presented in 1.78:1

not sure if cropped or opened up but the framing certainly looks more taller

just fished my copy of Devil's Advocate out and much to my surprise it's the edited version despite having it since release day :/

saw all three films a couple years back at the Prince Charles Cinema in London. all original 35mm prints as well. Can't remember specific details but Last Crusade was DAMN LOUD!

A lot of Super 35 productions had a different AR when they had a blow up made, See Top Gun also 

I had an idea to compile three versions of Top Gun onto a BD-25 (in Standard Definition)

1.33:1, 2.00:1 ( from the original R1 DVD) and the 2.35:1 version (from the remastered DVD)

Maybe that's an idea to preserve the multi aspect ratio versions.

Annoying thing is that I've seen a 35mm print of Aliens TWICE on the big screen lol. From what I remember, the blue timt was there

The Prince Charles cinema in London show it regularly. Will check their programme

the DVD I downloaded originally had the same issues

there was a second DVD made with subtitles and uploaded to cinemageddon but the audio kept going widely out of sync

This is quite possibly the most exciting project i'm fully pumped for. Being such a huge fan of the Alien franchise, I really cannot wait to see the work that went into this and finally hear the 70mm audio in 5.1 :)

 I assume that is gray market disc. Do you have a copy bigrob?

And speaking of soundtracks, Buster D was nice enough to give me the PCM 2.0 Dolby Stereo Soundtrack for the extended version of Aliens

 I down't own it yet as it's pretty low on my to buy list at the moment

I got a couple of these Excel Media discs (True Lies & Abyss - official releases btw, not bootlegs) and the bitrate is reportedly maxed out on them as they are film only releases

FYI the R6 DVD contains a 1536kpbs DTS-ES 6.1 (matrixed) audio mix. Could that be possibly an inclusion

so excited for this project. Might even have to fish out my BD cover I designed for Jonno's disc he sent me and forward it to your guys

Any work done on Alien is certainly a tick in my book

I saw an original 35mm print of Alien a while back but it was faded with a pink tint to it so no use there I'm afriad

I presume the Laserdisc has the stereo soundtrack. I never owned it on Laserdisc but i've owned multiple DVD copies

the R1 Image DVD had a Dolby Digital 2.0 dual mono soundtrack and the UK editions has Stereo but all editions in the UK suffer from incorrect pitched audio due to PAL conversion (even the UK BD)

the more recent editions only have 5.1 though

but yeah, after seeing your comments in the Last of the Mohicans thread about 'merging' the two transfers, i was wondering if this was a possibility

not sure if i've suggested this in the past (so apologies if i have)

any idea if a possible 'Flash Gordon' project could work?

Both UK and US BD's have faults but i'm wondering if there is any middle ground

I did the same thing actually. i used the HD-DVD video (for original caption subtitles, not player generated ones) and added the BD DTS-MA audio to it

FYI The US BD doesn't have a 7.1 track. It's just standard DTS-MA 5.1, the German BD has a DTS-HR 7.1 track though

The US BD though is upsampled to 96Khz/24 bit though  

I noticed the French BD has a 5.0 track that might be worth checking out

would love to see someone preserve The Big Blue (all different cuts and scores) just throwing that idea out there
