The Darth Vader costume changes
Time

The helmet for Episode III was completely remodelled. The helmets in the OT were all derived from the one source however they also changed extensively between films most noticably between ANH and ESB.The costume itself was not that different other than the sizing had to be different to accomodate Hayden. The helmet is a source of much continuing controversy.Personally I really like the design for the vader helmet for Epsiode III.The main changes were the widened back, neck flare, flat lenses as opposed to curved for the eyes, sharpened cheeks and the neck piece and face plate were one piece. The main changes that are immediately apparent to look at are the neck flare and the lenses.

I agree that the differences were to make him look newly constructed and that the look of the helmets between ROTS and ANH would make for a process of de-evolution rather than evolution due to damage and reconstruction, etc.

Here is my Master Replicas Episode III Vader helmet. The MR was taken from the original Episode III mold so this is entirely accurate to the last detail as to that which Hayden wore on screen:

The middle ground...or how I learned to relax and stop worrying where I fit in.

Well what do you know? The rarest of all things on an SW forum!

Consensus!

Seriously though thanks for all the thoughts guys.Interesting to hear all the views here and cool that it is done in the right spirit.Wasn't sure if my ramblings were coming across the way I intended.I also agree that due to the somewhat surprisingly, due to the population online, insular nature of the net fandom and SW sites that it will never be truly representative. Most of my friends who are SW fans have similarly moved on to other things but always really love the films and bear no ill will to Lucas. They just see the franchise as over-which for all intents and purposes it largely is of course.Certainly as a film franchise I view it as over but that wont stop me loving what I love about it.It just means that until such time as there is another live action film (which I also feel is inevitable at some stage) I will remain in this middle ground or slightly to the left of it with my collecting of the props used in the films which along with my family and the SW films is my other real passion.I may read the odd EU book here or there and I will play force unleashed but that is about the extent of my involvement .OT.com and rebelscum are the only SW boards I am a member of and here the only one I would post on to any extent as I generally enjoy the discussion here and respect the ethos of it and the preservation work done here.

Anyway once again thanks for all your input folks.

The middle ground...or how I learned to relax and stop worrying where I fit in.

Well some discussions here lately got me thinking about something that pops into my head every now and again when thinking of Star Wars and more particularly Star Wars fandom..

We have a fairly eclectic and representative bunch here although due to the nature of the the site itself it leans more towards fans who many would consider more "hardcore" in nature. Not my opinion but we are probably largely viewed that way externally I believe. We are not as blindly supportive as those on TF.N however more recently there has been more of the serious Lucas-bashing than is my taste.Everyone is of course free to view their opinions and no-one is liable to get banned for it.

So onto what I was thinking about and this is purely a personal view and I cannot generalise and I may be wrong of course. As I say every now and again (and I am not a highly frequent poster and very rarely a topic starter) there are those of you who know me better than others and there are some people here I hold in the highest regard.I have a personal relationship with Star Wars that I will explain a little further.

When I was a child I had some terrible things happen to me-I mean first degree shitty and I wont go into specifics suffice to say that it is practically unheard of even today.Anyway throughout all this I had something that kept me going and gave me inspiration and hope and that was the original Star Wars trilogy and particularly the original Star Wars.It holds a very special place in my heart and my life.

I love everything about ANH and the original trilogy.I really do.I felt hugely let down and aggravated by the special editions hence my membership here. That said however I enjoy the prequels and ROTS in particular is one of my favourite movies.I honestly love it.TPM and AOTC I can take or leave and this is the crux of my point.I believe there is a middle ground that consists of mainly this:

Original trilogy held in highest possible regard

Special editions tolerated but as a curiosity

TPM and AOTC quite enjoyable and ROTS very liked

Clone Wars seen as a kids summer distraction

Occasionally pick up a Star Wars book/EU/the like

I see myself as on the fringe of this kind of group-being a prop collector tends to lean me more towards the hardcore geek naturally!I believe the middle ground is neither as blindly worshipful of George nor as hardily cynical/bitter as some of the sections of the fan community.I learned to stop worrying or justifying what I love about what parts of Star Wars I love a long time ago as everyone is entitled to their opinion  and this is where we fall down as fans a lot of the time. This seemingly endless war of words with each other to get each other to change each other's minds and tell each other we're wrong!I mean just because skyjedi thinks Lucas is a total scumbag and whore doesn't mean I have to agree with him and nor does it mean he will change my mind. He's free to express it though as long as I am free to express mine.Nothing wrong with that.I am quite completely sure that naming my youngest son Lucas wouldn't be the choice of many here but George made ANH and it got me through very dark times in my life and it was my small tribute to the man (which possibly also leans me more towards geek territory!).

I am not sure there was a point to all this.I was just thinking and thought I would write it down for people to discuss and share their views-which is another reason I am a member here and not TF.N!!!!

The 2008 '<strong>The Clone Wars</strong>' animated theatrical movie - a general discussion thread

Well as I said I enjoyed taking my son and I didnt really have that big a problem with the movie-mostly because my son enjoyed it.If I didnt have kids I wouldn't have gone as I am in my mid-thirties so why would I go on my own at this age to something like this?

Now as some of you know I am a big fan of ROTS and I can take or leave the other two prequels (I really am not keen on AOTC and it wears on me more as time goes on) and ANH is my favourite movie of all time.Nothing surpasses it-bottom line. That being said I tend to view myself as a rather realistic fan.I dont normally venture onto TFN as it is just too weird but I thought I would see what they made of the Clone Wars movie and I had to post this as I actually was kind of flabbergasted. Here is one guy's thoughts:

"For me, it's (currently)...

1. Revenge of the Sith
2. The Clone Wars
3. The Empire Strikes Back
4. Return of the Jedi
5. Attack of the Clones
6. A New Hope
7. The Phantom Menace "

What?Really?I mean....come on.I just cant get my head around that.

Thanks LJ.I have had him hooked for some time now.Introduced him to my classic edition OOT discs but for him to see Star Wars on the big screen was a real treat for him.He was bouncing around this morning like it was Christmas!Really takes you back-that raw, unfettered excitement and enthusiasm for Star Wars that age and experience wear from you after a while.Fantastic day out.

There was one scene that stands out for me that I really loved when Obi-Wan lets himself be captured by the separatists and sits and has a very civilised cup of tea with the opposing general.Very funny.
