Abrams is Destroying Star Trek like Lucas has Destroyed Star Wars
Time

Asides from developing cataracts due to...........

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

and the fact that due to the score I half expected Batman to pop up on the bridge of the Enterprise I thought this was a very good outing for Trek.Anyone who thinks that this wasn't a better trek flick than Nemesis or that absolutely god-awful snooze-fest Insurrection is mad.

Karl Urban was great and despite what others have said I rather liked Pine as Kirk and his development through the film.Quinto was very good although i still think he had the easiest job of the three.Simon Pegg was very good too and although many seem to disagree i thought Bana was badass as Nero.

I thought it was plain to see that Orci and Kurtzman ARE Trek fans.I mean, really,is the casual cinema-goer or someone new to the franchise going to get the Kobayashi Maru?

Ya bunch of Kirk-Lovin Spocksuckers..........

Been waiting to get that line in for a while now

Don't you mean a 1.3 metre Star Destroyer, Ady?

Making your own models is a great way to go. You get to keep them.

Well I'm hoping to get my mitts on something from Ady for my collection!

Seriously though I just want to say here that as a prop fanatic, and a huge fan of ANHR,and after speaking with Ady I think it really goes understated,as he is honestly too modest to say otherwise, the level of commitment to his vision for this he has.The prop and model work that he is putting into this is phenomenal and I have the highest regard for his work. After Ady telling me only a snippet of what he is making for ESBR i was gobsmacked.

Ady I said to you personally but felt that it should be stated here that your ambition for this is only matched by your dedication and work ethic.LFL could genuinely learn from you.

TPM: A Decade Later
Time

There is a naiive charm about Menace that has grown on me more over the years and as I see my children enjoy it now appeals to me more.I still love the duel of the fates,Qui-Gon is a great character (not to mention he is from Northern Ireland) and while it is flawed there is a lot to enjoy in it.

I think some distance from it has helped too.Thing is though I rather like TPM,very much dislike AOTC and am a big fan of ROTS.My problem is not necessarily with the prequels but with the SEs so I maybe have a different perspective on it.

I will never forget seeing the crawl for TPM come up in the cinema the first time though. That was a real moment.

Love that bit in Fanboys where they are in the cinema and  Bottler turns round to them and says:

"What if it sucks?"

lol

The bitching and moaning does get a bit old though, lol.

The Yoda puppet is made by Gino Sabbatino. He has a forum at:

http://www.starwarspropaganda.com/

Gino can be somewhat....abrasive.He tends to divide the prop community a bit.People either really like him or cant stand him.Ady if you wanted me to ask him about that Yoda I could as I know him quite well.

He does some great work such as his trooper helmets and his busts like the Emperor and Yoda.As for being an OT purist....well yes but he has done a lot of work on replicating the Darth Maul costume so not entirely.

Glad you are here to take care of that, but exactly how are you going to do that?

I thought I had by citing just one example of how great my experience has been on this forum.

And yes this is only my experience but that is all I have to go by and have yet to find anyone on this forum who has been anything other than completely accomodating.I bear no "pack" allegiances here but have been on other forums where people ARE genuine pains in the ass and make it not worth bothering with and this forum has not been one of them in my time here.

From more established guys like Ady and Jambe to other folks who have helped me out I am rarely in a position to reciprocate as most of these guys dont want anything that I have as they rarely dont have it already but have always gone out of their way to help.

I mean my son was REALLY upset about losing those MP3s as it is an activity we do together a lot with those read-alongs and I get a real kick out of doing them with him as he just loves them and I hated him being upset about it.It was so cool to have people care enough about it to help.

That's why,in my experience,it is unfair to tarnish most folks here as greedy or selfish. Not saying there aren't some, people are like that, but the majority here are not.

Info Wanted: What Ever Happened To PAY IT FORWARD?
Time

Actually this thread has kind of pissed me off.

In my time on this forum the people who have helped me out have been nothing short of fantastic whether I am in a postion to reciprocate or not.Let me cite this one example in particular.Back before the read-alongs site was set up with all the downloads on it I had a PC crash and lost all the MP3s of my sons' vintage Star Wars read-alongs and we dont have a tape or record player so couldn't do them together and he was very upset. So I put a request up here asking for help and not only did I get multiple responses but in the end,as I dont have a newsgroup account, the person who helped me allowed me access to their newsgroup account, sent me instructions on how to download from a newsgroup (as I am a torrents user and hadn't a clue) and I replaced ALL of the MP3s of my sons's books and got some we didnt have before which I then went and bought the books for and he was delighted.

Now THAT is what the people on this forum will do for each other and I wont have them being called greedy or selfish as it is just not right.

a quick hello
Time
well i haven't been around in a while as i had a pretty scary brush with the dark side in the shape of a perforated duodenal ulcer which led led to me nearly bleeding out on our bathroom floor and losing over half my blood and needing emergency surgery. I had a long stay in hospital and have had a lengthy recovery with post-operative complications etc etc etc. Aaaaaaaaannnnnnnyyyyyway as i have some friends here who haven't heard from me in a while i wanted to pop by and say what's happened and that i have not dropped off the face of the planet, lol. In the meantime i see little has changed-the sterling editing and preservation work continues, the politics thread goes round in ever decreasing circles and skyjedi's bitterness grows unabated ,lol, so it's good to be back in other words.
