Now let's not be pedantic. This thread is about the saga, six movies, and the preferrable order. In THAT context Star Wars is ANH.As a matter of fact if we are talking about watching the original trilogy,IV-VI,in any order it is still ANH as it was changed o this pre-ESB thus making Star Wars ANH in every sense other than as a stand-alone.

Sorry if my rationale doesn't please you, but, at the end of the day, I really don't care.

And in terms of history, Star Wars, even after A New Hope was added to the title, was still referred to as Star Wars in every home video release until the 2000 VHS boxset (including the 1997 Special Edition boxset), so, no, your own logic doesn't hold water in terms of Star Wars being A New Hope in every context except as a standalone movie.

EDIT: One other innaccurate point. It was released with "A New Hope" added to it in 1981, after Empire Strikes Back, not before it. Of course, now I'm just picking hairs, but then again, that's pretty much what you were doing to my post to begin with, right?

I may have misunderstood the point you were trying to make and accept the mistakes I made in the post.I referred to Star Wars as ANH as it is now the most convenient way to distinguish titles since we have six movies.

For me the bottom line is that ANH is the best film so I will always start there and move through to ROTJ then do TPM-ROTS.ANH changed everything-changed the way I view cinema, changed the way I view the world, changed ME.I am a big fan of certain aspects of the PT (I like the extended scope of the STORY) and I like ROTS a lot but ANH will forever,to me,be the absolute pinnacle of film-making.Visionary and revolutionary.ESB was clearly the most dramatic but ANH started everything and opened my eyes.
IV-VI
I-III
The first experience you have of Star Wars should always be the Tantive roaring onto screen and then that moment with the Star Detroyer.Nothing like it.

What were your original expectations for the PT?

I enjoy the prequels despite their flaws.I,as I have said, really enjoyed ROTS.Certainly they didn't live up to my expectations but let's be honest we are not an easy bunch to please.Would anything he had released actually have lived up to all our collective expectations? Our expectations for them were probably so colossal that a let-down was inevitable. All in all though I like the extended story and scope of the whole saga nowEven though the OT will always, obviously,be paramount for me and in particular ANH.My collection mainly focuses on ANH for a reason.

I just meant that I like ROTS and I also understand why people dislike it.Matter of taste and opinion.I am just tired of the whining and the bitching and the endless nitpicking.Like you say there must be something more productive to do!
I certainly see aspects of this particular forum such as the fan edits and the preservations as being a wholly more heartening thing than the incessant bashing of the PT and the moaning about George doing this or that.I wish I had the talent and ability to do the work that a lot of the guys around here do.I very much admire the dedication of a lot of you guys.

When I was growing up the talk in the schoolyard was always that Vader became Vader after a duel with Obi-Wan.For me,personally, seeing the hellish Mustafar and that final duel was a dream come true. While parts of Eps 1 & 2 certainly disappopinted a friend asked me when I was coming out of the first night of ROTS "What did you think?" and I said "It was everything I wanted it to be" and I still think that about ROTS.

I wanted something new.I wanted to see the Clone Wars.I wanted to see Anakin's story and his fall. That was what always intrigued me about the mystery backstory that was alluded to in the OT but never fully explained.I wanted to SEE the old republic before the dark times, before the empire!Primarily though I just wanted Anakin's story.I love Anakin's story and his eventual redemption.Hope for us all,eh?

Anyone got £40,000 to spare?

I will have to speak to my mods on my forum before posting links as it is a private forum for members only. However I can say,and those of you who know anything about the prop business will know the name, the very highly respected team at The Propstore Of London (who I hold in very high esteem personally) were not in the least convinced by this and had opportunity to see it first-hand as did many other members of the community. As I have said I think it would be fair to say that it has been widely accepted in the prop community that there were many glaring and visible errors with the cloak.I can provide a link to a discussion on the RPF which is a public forum:
http://www.therpf.com/index.php?showtopic=126224&st=0
As with most things of this nature discussions usually take place on a more personal level but there are some very interesting points raised in the RPF thread.I will see if it is possible to post any more links.
