Star Wars Fans Are Cool Regardless Of Age...
Time
I quite agree. All artistic endeavour is,and should,by it's nature be open to critique and interpretation.I think the point here though is that a lot of fans seem to take a lot of the things very, very personally and react as such.I dont think there is really any need for that kind of reaction.A reasoned critique of the films and their impact and so forth will create useful dialogues and will serve us all well as fans.It is when it just gets down to petty bitching that it gets old fast.I am very aware of the failings of some of the films, all of the films as a matter of fact, but I love them anyway.George Lucas doesn't owe me anything.I have paid enough money down the years that I am pretty sure I dont owe george anything either!Lucas has given me so much in my life with these films that he will always, regardless of some of his flaws and perhaps arrogance,be one of my true heroes.Maybe that makes me a schmuck. If it does then so be it.I understand completely some of the negative reactions and comments about the films but I will continue, for myself,to find the good in all of them as that is what makes me happy and enables me to continue to enjoy and love these films and I sincerely hope I can pass that onto my sons.
Long story short-Star Wars pretty much kicks the ass out of everything else.

Well said and I couldn't agree with you more. I love Star Wars full-stop.Warts,flaws and all.I love the movies, love the story,I just love it.I have props,figures...hell I even have tattoos. However people really need to stop seeing Lucas as some demonic figure looming over their childhoods with a scythe in his hand.My childhood and a large part of my life has been about SW.I am passing my love of these films onto my children and I will not pass it on with the kind of cynicism that seems so prevalent in the fan-base right now.Remember when you had that boundless enthusiasm?Remember goosebumps when the logo came up on the screen and the music kicked-in?Remember the thrill of hearing a lightsaber ignite?I am proud to say I still feel all those things well into my thirties. These are the things I intend to hold onto and not lose focus of what made me love them in the first place.I want my two boys to share the good things about the series and not all this petty crap you hear bandied about.

Well,to be fair, the AT-AT is a one inch model and the Y-Wing has questionable provenance thanks to Gary Kurtz.Sabers,PT or OT,always command a very high premium.Nothing says Star Wars like a lightsaber and you basically wont get a genuine OT saber in private hands so the PT ones are accessible hence the prices.
I still wouldn't take the chance on a prequel stunt though as the water has been muddied far too much with production items and casts from the original molds and recasts, etc.

I only ever found "Ulysses" to be that way.Other works by Joyce were fantastic and I very much enjoyed them.I just feel like wading through mud reading Ulysses sometimes! It is the only book to defeat me and I do enjoy a challenge so someday I will get through it.I have read other works that objectively could be considered much more challenging but there is just something about Ulysses that goes right by me!

Profiles In History-Star Wars items results
Time

For those of you who may follow or are interested in original Star Wars props here are the latest round of results of the Star Wars items at the most recent PIH Hollywood Memorabilia auction held a couple of days ago:

SW Imperial tunic $8k
1 inch AT-AT $6k
1 inch Y-wing $4k
2 inch Falcon no bids
Windu AOTC stunt lightsaber $35k

The Falcon didn't sell primarily because there are serious, serious doubts as to authenticity.Personally I dont see any way it can be original as I have been reliably informed that the Falcon used in the shot they are claiming it was used in was a 32" model not the 2 1/2 inch model that was featured in this catalog.
More high prices for stunt sabers too.Seems to be about the going rate for a stunt saber these days although there are also usually some questions regarding items such as these. The only item I saw in this particular auction that I thought was pretty cool was the tunic but $8K is pretty steep.
Anyway just thought i would put them up for those of you who may be interested.

Someday I plan on finishing James Joyce's "Ulysses".I hate that book as it is the only piece of literature that has ever defeated me.I just cannot understand it.Utterly impenetrable.
As far as truly great writing is concerned:
Kafka.Simply amazing work.
Amongst other things I hate:
Ingrowing toenails
My three year old's tantrums
The fucking weather in Northern Ireland
I'm with you on the Westboro baptist Church.Lunatics.

should I get the GOUT?
Time
One of the main reasons I became a member here, asides from being so impressed by the dedication of the work being put out here, was that i got thoroughly sick of the bullshit efforts that have been pumped out by LFL recently and the endless editions and cash-cow treatment that the OT has been given. No way am I shelling out any more money for the OT.LFL have gotten enough of my money down the years on one version or another of the movies and to release ANOTHER set a mere eighteen months after the four disc set (which I bought) was just taking the piss. When LFL put out a set that has the effort and thought put into it that some of the ones that can be seen here have then I will buy the OT again.

How does Star Wars compare?
Time
Nothing ever compares to Star Wars.Bottom line.
I still, thirty years on,haven't recovered from the blockade runner storming onto the screen followed by that destroyer!I mean, seriously,I'm well into my thirties now and I collect props from the films and every time I get a new piece I just go mad like a kid again.Same goes for every time I watch the original Star Wars. There is always a moment, and it differs from viewing to viewing, that just makes you feel all wide-eyed and blown-away again. What other movie can claim that?
Star Wars holds a place in my heart that no other movie could even come close to touching.Luke was,is and forever shall be my total fucking hero. The force will be with you always indeed
