TV series edits have potential, but it would be good to go beyond just retelling the films as they stand. Each episode could have a focus.

I put this forward YEARRRSSSS ago, as a sort of TV mini series response to the STAR WARS REBORN project that was never completed.

It utilises flashbacks to tell a seamless PT/OT. In a way a more chopped up version of machete viewing.

I can’t seem to find the finished typed outline - but this might help

divided into 10 about 1:00 - 1:10 each

part i - The Wind that Shakes the Stars
films - IV, II, III

possible prologue
possible intro of anakin burning. an image which will linger within flashbacks until part vii
luke’s boring life (inc biggs scenes), the droids
flash-backs to leia’s story from message.
closes on choice to become jedi.

part ii - An Age of Heroes
films - IV, II

leads with han
luke’s training - mos eisley montage
adventures on deathstar. death of obiwan.

part iii - A New Hope
films - IV, II

opens with tie fighter battle after escaping death star
battle of yavin
battle of geonosis, duel with dooku,

part iv - The Empire Strikes Back
films - V, III

battle of hoth

part v - Shadow of the Black Knight
films - V, III

part vi - The Dark Victory
films - V, III

part vii - The Secret Apprentice

I do like how the old EU is being borrowed from, like there were alot of good ideas.

I think it looks great - can’t wait to see it.

I’d agree that a Vaderless PT would be absolutley fine. Maybe alluded to in a dream sequence perhaps, but it doesn’t need revealing.

Think about the Force Awakens - and the huge gaps in narrative between itself and ROTJ (ie new characters being born, later being corrupted - mysterious Snoke etc). I feel this works fine - so surely presenting a huge level of mystery between the PT and ANH would work aswell?

Imagine just watching the clone wars series, then seeing the OT. You would have that same realisation of surprise that the Republic, Jedi, Clones and droid armies are all gone. The few expositional conversations would suggest the political changes (as they did for the audience in '77). You would still believe that Anakin was a great guy, and feel gutted when you learn he was murdered.

I reckon the future of PT editting lies in these anthology films. Either creating Anakin biopics in the anthology format, or using anthology films to fill in for Ep3 etc.

It would fit with a Dooku-Jedi edit (as the sidious link would have to be removed)

I wonder if there was a way to place his “I was once Qui-Gon’s master as he was once your’s” dialogue in TPM - as this would be relatively redundant in AOTC if he is brought forward.

If you wanted to RADICALLY RADICALLY edit both TPM and AOTC - I’d bring much of a robed christopher lee into TPM, then substitute a masked “dooku” into AOTC - who would reveal himself at the end of AOTC.

I wrote this a few pages back, but it got lost in another line of discussion - did anyone have any similar ideas or thoughts? Nothing profound - but possibly another way to take the story.

Biggest plot hole would be WHY do they go to the facility to drop bombs? Could it be cut so its just part of their route back? Or could there be some alternative purpose? Maybe the rebels were planning an attack on some cloning facility or something like that?

An unrelated idea - was have Han call out to Kylo Ren whilst he carries off Rey. I thought this might start Kylo Ren’s doubt and fretting as oppose to reveal it rather flatly with Snoke.

The Lullaby would be a nice touch - could be placed in epI perhaps when Ani and Padme talk? And maybe repeated in EpVI when Leia speaks to Luke about Padme.

Colour tests look great.

I came across this ages ago and have had it sat on my desktop ever since. I think its a photograph of TPM in a cinema - but the colours look really good (probably something thats happened through the various processes.)

Would love to see more blues/greens in motion.

It could be heard in the camps Jakku and maybe by some fluke get picked up by Finn’s helmet speaker.

It could also be broadcasting in the castle when the weapon is fired and then suddenly be cut short.

I like this idea. It could be a good hook if you wanted to jump from Jakku to the Resistance base perhaps.

I like that. It would at least make it a little different.

I’m preferring the idea of the star exploding - it seems much tidier - and sort of justifies the power of utilizing a star to kill a star.

That sort of joke is probably too crude for Frink’s tastes, (based on his Austin Powers edits) but one of the Hayden Christensen movies I scrounged up for him probably has a sound effect for that. 😉
