Unusual Sequel Trilogy Radical Redux Ideas Thread
Time

Ironically I felt that the ST lacked the political context that the PT suffered from, like it would have just helped to see what the Rebels had fought so much for so we knew what the stakes are within the story.

It’d be cool if the resistance were the surviving elements of the Republic Fleet. An opening scene in TFA could be the Republic Fleet pursuing and outnumbering the First Order, only to be entirely wiped out by the ‘Mysterious Hyperspace Weapon’. Perhaps Leia senses the trap and jumps away in the Raddus just in time.

SOLO: A Star Wars Story - Fan Edit Ideas Thread
Time

I really liked it. Probably my favourite SW film after ESB, RO and ANH. The fan service actually felt like nerd trivia, with hints at the wider universe - not lingering shots on cantina aliens or droids - well except for the big red stinker.

I’d probably trim the Maul bit so he is just a cowled figure with robotic legs, or at most reveal a face - but the lightsabre seemed a little unecessary. I found him a bit jarring and it took me out the film.

As with an ideal Rogue One edit that has a crawl, and has a single sustained time period (ie no time jumping or flashbacks) I’d like to figure out how a space opening could work. I assume you could probably open with Star Destroyers over that planet where Han is a soldier. Would the film really make much sense without the Corellia scenes though? It would definilty lose alot of the character connection.

Radical idea - impossible to pull off in an edit, but I thought I’d share.

So Padme and Queen Amidala are seperate characters. Padme is her double for security reasons - just a fairly similar looking handmaid, who dreams of leaving the planet and wishes she was an important person/hero herself, as oppose to living in the shadow of the queen.

The bad guys invade, and the Queen is killed in an accident. Padme then assumes the identity of the Queen (probably at her request). She escapes with some bodyguards/jedi etc, returns later on, saves the day. At some critical point she probably reveals that she isn’t the queen, or gets discovered, but rallies her people from her own confidence as oppose to the image of the queen.

It would sort of map well to Luke’s journey in ANH.

Info Wanted: SAGA PLAYLISTS... What would yours be?
Time

Not really a FAN EDIT discussion as such, but I feel it should live here as it could potentially inform some future fan edit projects…

With STAR WARS TV & MOVIE media expanding rapidly - multiple TV SHOWS fleshing out back story to characters we see, the ever growing colletion of ‘STORY MOVIES’ prequellig characters and events etc - watching a collection of STAR WARS movies is becoming ever more cumbersome and creative.

Given the wealth of content available, what would your STAR WARS playlist be? And what yet-to-be-realised fan edit or movie be that could be part of it? Who would it be for, what themes/characters/events/places would you focus on? What would you name your playlist?

Vaguest of ideas -

I saw the films BEFORE SUNRISE and BEFORE SUNSET recently, and was wondering about how the romance between Anakin and Padme might be a touch more convincing.

I think this would work in a PT that doesn’t contain TPM, so we start with an overhauled AOTC, and Episode III will likely be filled by a future anthology film.

So the basic premise is - we have Anakin and Padme MEET in AOTC. They have a short romance, but mutually decide, or realise it is impossible - and separate as the Clone Wars open.

The events of ROTS, which force Anakin to stay grounded on Coruscant, bringing the two together again after many years apart. The initially platonic relationship shifts as they can’t resist the revisiting the romance more completely, finally consummating their relationship - however Anakin’s slip to the Darkside ultimately stops it going any further.

She could be engaged to Bail Organa in some sort of classic aristocratic marriage. Anakin perhaps only finds out about the pregnancy being his as he chokes Padme, or it’s revealed at the very end of the film as he burns on the shores of Mustafar.

It would radically change their relationship - turning it from a marriage into more of a WHAT IF - the tragedy is possibly drawn now from Anakin not realising what good things he has until he’s crushed it.

I’ve been pondering whether the Death Star trench plot in ANH might have been intended to be anecdotal of Luke Skyhopping on Tatooine - and how those experiences indirectly equipped him for the battle of Yavin. You see this sort of thing alot in movies, and its a great way to sometimes make a convoluted victory seem believable (superhero films use it loads).

So - WHAT IF the intended (I assume it was intended) parallel between pod racing/space battle could be made more direct?

The pivotal point of the battle is Anakin flying into the droid control ship, and blowing up the reactor. Could this be made to seem more deliberate - and more believable? WHAT IF Anakin was to win the pod race by tactfully flying through a narrow alternative tunnel to slip past Sebulba? No idea how, but it might work?

ANH - Skyhopper scenes
Time

Thanks for the replies!

ATMachine - I think what you are saying makes alot of sense, essentially something that was potentially conceived, maybe influenced other elements of the story, and then perhaps was dropped (but we still have it’s DNA in the story).

I didn’t want to make the comparison earlier, but had it been executed better, the podracing/space battle parallel would have been similar. It would have been nice to see Luke come up with an instinctive strategy with Biggs based on their experiences in Beggar’s Canyon - as you mentioned Silverwook, it would be really cool to see in a Luke centered Prequel Film.

ANH - Skyhopper scenes
Time

I wonder if the intention of the Death Star trench was to mirror some prior anecdotal experience Luke had flying through canyons on Tatooine - that would indirectly equip him to fly in those conditions.

I know none were filmed, but were any Skyhopper scenes (that he references in the deleted Biggs scene) ever considered or planned?

I guess in its absence, we will always have that first level on REBEL ASSAULT - or this thing https://youtu.be/O1NpZxn860M?t=1m10s

STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION
Time

I don’t know if this has been mentioned or recommended - but are there any plans to utilise R1 elements in the new edit? I’m not thinking intrusive stuff (ie Security Droids, Ships etc - although I would love to see that) - but more subtle elements like backgrounds within the Death Star.

The reason I bring this up, is I always felt the Death Star Bridge felt very dark, almost like a stage, whereas in R1 it is much better lit. I’d assume the R1 set was modeled very closely on the ANH version, so might be plausible to source from.

I think maybe Editroid missing the point where the subjective agenda we have here (ie favouring the OT), not what the general populous has who go on IMDB. One day there might be a PT.com that edits the OT to match the PT.

Just to play devils advocate - if the PT were really THAT awful, we wouldn’t feel they could be saved through the PREQUEL RADICAL REDUX thread. Right?

Edit:
Oh, and it looks like there is a PT.com after all.

STAR WARS: EP VI -RETURN OF THE JEDI "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - ** PRODUCTION HAS NOW RESTARTED **

I imagine you’ve seen all these already ADY, but others who haven’t been on the forum so long may have not seen them.

Years ago a member called SSWR made a bunch of small, yet effective, edit ideas. I didn’t manage to get hold of all of them before he took them offline, but there are some nice small ideas for ROTJ.

As far as ewoks are concerned - I like the idea that they are a thematic tool to take the rebels to the back door, and to act as a lure to the imperial forces.

It was joked around years ago that C3PO should be painted green perhaps - it seems oddly impractical to take a bright gold protocol droid to Endor when you’ve got the rest of the team wearing camouflage.

I had a dream last night that I was watching an editted ROTS where the editor had removed all hooks leading to the OT. So no Darth Vader transformation, no Luke birth, no Jedi Massacre etc.

The film opened with Obi-Wan hunting for grevious, the Utapau battle, then concluded with Palpatine’s resuce, and Anakin joining the Jedi Council.

I wonder if this could this ever work?

Essentially it might look like a PT that gives as much an ambiguous gap between the PT-OT as the new films do since the OT (ie no obvious set up or bridge).
