On second thought, just bring my shuttle instead.

Is TESB the double LP?

A video would be a waste on my "extensive" collection. A single picture will do, taken a few moments ago.
2006 DVD of the 1977 theatrical version, in a generic case, with a home-made cover (the original one-sheet). All other parts of the purchase never made it inside the house. The day of the purchase back in 2006, they went into the trash can out by the curb. They are now buried in a landfill somewhere far outside of town - "with the rest of the garbage".
I heartily approve of this post and photo collection. And with the decision not to donate garbage to charity.
Ah, ok. I suppose it's like the sounds of music sheets being turned during quiet moments you can sometimes hear on soundtracks :)
Is the music where the Falcon and other rebels fly into the Death Star tunnel sequence on this LP? That's one of my favorite parts of the movie.
Sounds really good from the tracks I've listened to so far, nice job.
What's the sound at about 1:53 on 'The Emperor' track?
I just can't compare the coming of 3-D to the colorization of movies, or talkies. It doesn't seem like the same sort of change.
PS. I liked the "Malibu Stacy" dig ^^ earlier :)

I didn't see OT in theatres, because I was very, very... semen at that time.
Thanks for sharing!
:p
You sound kind of irritated, is that because of the word semen or because I didn't see Star Wars on the big screen? Cause if that's because of the last one then - what can I possibly do? I wasn't as lucky as you guys...
Perhaps if you'd said you weren't yet "an itch in your daddy's pants", that would be more... less icky :)

Wow, I can honestly say that this will be another SW release by Lucas that I won't be apart of. If you would have told me this about 10-15 years ago that I wouldn't give a shit about anything SW-related, I would have said you're crazy.
Same. Any new Star Wars-related stuff is just a turn-off now.

Absolutely terrible. The PT ruined everything once, now anyone that is a glutton for punishment gets to see them altered AGAIN to this 3D fad crap.
The article stated the rest of the films will come out one each year "depending on how well TPM does."
Ummmm.... Who the FRAK wants to pay Lucas AGAIN to sit through TPM, even if it's 3D?
I'd rather sit through Yogi Bear in 3-D than TPM again.
Avatar was a one-off theme park ride movie, but other than that I don't care for the process at all. I'd rather have good scripts, good stories, good characters.
It wasn't immature 3-D technology that George was waiting for, it was the truckloads of cash James Cameron is rolling in that Lucas has seen.
Sorry to hear that, JT.
I was gonna say FLAC too :)

Randomly, I did come across this on Youtube.

Did anyone here make it? I actually found it pretty neat, although once again they put the blame on Lowry, when it was Lucas who personally fucked up the picture himself. Strangely they quote my site, which I thought pointed out this misconception.
Thanks, I enjoyed that. I remember too reading that Lucas supervised the different color palette though, as you said.
It's been many years since I've listened to a soundtrack album on vinyl (probably since the mid-eighties); was interesting just to hear one again :)
That second sample sounds really good. Very rich sound through my headphones.
Nice post, Anchorhead. The original Star Wars movies mean so much to us around in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Something the current generation will never understand.
I'd be more interested if I wasn't so jaded about the whole SW thing from not being able to buy the original movies.

I've heard people insist, with total confidence, that every shot in the special edition is new and that's because in the original they just held the ships up with wires, like an Ed Wood movie.
What an awful comparison.
Wasn't it the poor DeLuxe film stock of the time that contributed to the excessive deterioration of the negative in later years? At least that's my understanding of things.
$75,000 for that array of 20, 18 gig hard disks? How times have changed...

The sad fact is trained professional projectionists are a vanishing breed. I've seen the quality of presentations go way downhill the past two decades. The guy working the snack bar is often the one who turns the projectors on.
The last time I had to complain about focus issues, it took three trips before anything was done and half the movie was over. Sad thing is, I was the only one who got off my ass to complain!
Seeing Empire all those years ago in 70mm six track Dolby will always be a cherished memory for me. I really need to see 2001 on the big screen, and maybe a Cinerama film before I die.
I think most people don't like to complain, or feel awkward doing so. Just human nature. But you do sit there wondering to yourself, Doesn't this bother anyone else? And there are probably dozens thinking the same thing.
I went to see 2001 at a special screening at a local arthouse theater about ten years ago, which was a very good experience and it looked spectacular on a big screen (complete with Intermission, like the old days where there was a break to visit the candy bar). I wish more older movies would get regular screenings, since I'm sure many people would love to see classic films at the cinema.
I saw the SE versions in my late-20s and was horrified at the additions and changes to all three movies.
In the early 1990s when I was in the UK, on the 13th of June 1993 (I still have the ticket stub), there was a screening of Star Wars at a local cinema — it was pure bliss, even though the print was a bit scratchy and old.
I have nothing but contempt for the Special Editions.
Sorry you had to cancel this interesting project.

Ha! I got a Yoda birthday card too! With me it was kinda fitting though, since me, my sister and our cousins had been constantly quoting the Plinkett AOTC review earlier that week. My sister actually wrote "Number One: Everything" in it.
Was it the interactive one with the light-up green saber on the front and the music playing?

I think another reason many are less than enthusiastic about this release is that we've been double-dipped by LFL in the past. ("That's like putting your whole mouth right in the dip. From now on, when you take a chip, just take one dip and end it.")
When I say I absolutely will not buy any Star Wars set that doesn't include the OUT, it's not just vitriol; I'm really genuinely not interested in the least to see George's "improved" versions, regardless of resolution, audio compression, or format. Even if the color timing was corrected and the audio mix was, as kenkraly2007 is fond of prognosticating, "fixed," I still couldn't care less. These aren't the movies I'm looking for.
That feeling is just intensified when I remember paying full price for the trilogy on DVD in 2004 only to shell out again two years later when the GOUT was released. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. I'll gladly wait until until a decent transfer of the OUT is completed before buying another Star Wars product. If that time never comes...oh well, it's not like I'm interested in any of the other cheaply-made, soulless, mass-produced Star Wars garbage coming out these days.
Great post.
I feel betrayed every time I see another Star Wars product these days. Even a Yoda-adorned birthday card I received recently made me resentful of LFL.

So...Dennis Muren talking about the importance of the history of this movie and the old methods and knowledge, it's like LFL is just making fun of us at this point.
It's kind of sad those techniques are mentioned, but many of which now only exist in rough quality video and photos from the film's shoot.
