Return of the Jedi cut-scene
Time

It's an interesting short scene, but like many deleted scenes it's easy to see why it was cut.

The opening (following the Death Star II scenes) with R2 and Threepio walking to Jabba's palace is good enough on its own.

In addition, this particular cut scene was more or less done at the end of TESB when the group is escaping Cloud City and about to hyperdrive away.

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)

There we go folks. It's coming. And sans the OOT. Lucas says that that's just not what he wants, and his word is judge, jury, and god. It's over. It's done. They're gone. We've lost. R.I.P. Star Wars.

Like your sig, I have no interest in giving any more to the LFL empire without the quid pro quo of being able to buy the OOT.

The lowly "bonus feature" status given to the 2006 non-anamorphic Laserdisc DVD transfers was the last straw; this Blu-ray set... I have no words.

Like CO, I've finally had enough of this nonsense too. Lucas has flipped the bird at the original films - the ones that MADE his Empire! - one too many times.

P.S. If anybody from Lucasfilm - or indeed anyone that knows the bearded one - happens to visit this site, it would be awsome if somebody had the balls to say to Lucas, "This (release) is wrong. These films were created via a LOT of talented people. Many of whom have had their work erased from the trilogy.

Yes, it was the originals and the original fans who made his LFL empire, and he just continues to give the big middle figure to both.

And since 1997, it's been a sore spot that the talented artists who worked their asses off to make the visual effects of the OOT get remembered and disrespected by having that work replaced with inferior CG effects and additional useless scenes.

Going back to the James Cameron discussion a few pages back... I agree with him to a point, although just "dropping scenes in" can still change the overall movie to an extent. This happened with his Aliens SE; although on that occasion (on DVD at least) there was the branching option and the original (IMO, better) version was available to the viewer.

Also with Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Director's Edition included a couple of new scenes which didn't really add anything to the already perfect movie (unfortunately, no branching option on that particular DVD).

But Lucas seems to be entirely driven by generating more and more profits for LFL at the expense of the original fans. The earlier reference to his embarrassment of the OOT is nothing more than a smokescreen for milking more dollars from SW. He's just a business man, not an artist.

I'm with you, CO. Although it doesn't matter to GL that old-timer fans really dislike/hate what's happened to the OOT over the years. The next generation is eating the new Star Wars stuff up in droves.

This Blu-ray news is the worst yet, though. GL is so full of shit about the state of the original movies, the negatives, blah blah blah... Lucasfilm could easily release the OOT is HD with little effort, but they simply refuse to.

Unless GL dies and someone (not Rick McCallum) steps in to take over with a clear head and actually listens to the long-time fans, nothing will change.

Nothing but extreme disappointment about this. Long live the HD bootlegs.

"Alert my Star Destroyer to prepare for my arrival." What was the point?

Actually I think the only real pace-breaker is the actual landing sequence. Everything from that rather nice matte of Vader going up to the shuttle to it flying off into space before the breathtaking "space dawn" shot looks nice without really breaking anything. And seems to add needed pause to a scene that otherwise feels a bit rushed.

There was never any need for a "pause" in this sequence. The quick cuts and short bits of dialogue were perfect.

I thought the goal of this site was to get the original versions of The Star Wars Trilogy Epiosdes 4,5, and 6 on DVD and blu-ray

The fact is that in 2006, in a world where we now had high-definition video discs (hddvd and blu-ray), George Lucas literally gave us 1993 quality transfers of the star wars trilogy and acted like he was doing us a favor.

A favor, it was not.  An outright slap in the face for fans of what started it all, it was.  On this, most all of us agree.

:(

Yes, this is exactly how I feel - then (2006) and now. Betrayed by Lucasfilm after years of devotion and buying SW products. The "bonus discs" were just a big middle finger to long-time fans.

The entire special edition was pointless.  The restoration was necessary, but the changes and bad added cartoon cgi added nothing and actually take away from the experience. Things i'm for are reducing or removing the garbage mattes or blue screen bleed or fringing.

Exactly my feeling. I don't mind minor clean-ups  (as were done on the Raiders of the Lost Ark restoration), but wholesale destruction of scenes is completely wrong.

I loved Vadar's "Bring my shuttle" line for years... since I was a boy in the early 1980s, and it was never confusing. It was one of the best moments in TESB; and swapping it out for that p*ss-poor line and then inserting a totally useless scene, ruining the pacing of the escape sequence (and the brilliant music score that goes along with it) just proves how clueless Lucas and his sycophant Yes-men are.
